  1. Nick Solak non roster invite too, right?
  2. In the same way Brian Anderson was Torii Hunter Lite...
  3. Sosa doesn't have the range, instincts or fast-twitch reactions to play there. It will be Baldwin or Amaya.
  4. The common wisdom seemed to be that he wouldn't listen to anyone but his own "natural instincts"...see ball, hit ball without any type of plan of attack or interest in scouting reports.

  7. Unless they're going to bench Vaughn part of the time against tough RHP...and of course Colas could get DH at-bats as well. Anything's better than another year of Gavin Sheets I guess.
  8. Especially considering the Bulls couldn’t get across the finish line in negotiations for stretch-5 Nikola Vučević rather than seizing an opportunity to capitalize on his outlier-excellent season by expunging the rest of his contract and getting some draft picks for him. And that he didn’t push to move guards Coby White or Ayo Dosunmu before they wind up in an untenable contractual middle ground where the Bulls can’t effectively extend them for what they’re worth. And that, rather than moving the finally-healthy-and-looking-great Lonzo Ball while the iron was hot, he instead extended Ball for a still-moveable two years and $20 million … and then didn’t move him. Yes, trades are hard, it takes two to tango, etc. But the Bulls just, like, never tango. They are the guy in the “They Don’t Know” meme, standing in the corner at the party, talking to themselves about how nobody knows that Patrick Williams is totally still going to become Kawhi Leonard someday, just you wait. Meanwhile … everybody else is dancing and having a good time, you know? Just for the record: The Bulls are 22-30, on pace to finish between sixth and 11th place in the East for the sixth straight season. If they’re not OK with being in the middle, they should probably, at some point, try to stop being in the middle. https://sports.yahoo.com/nba-trade-deadline-2025-winners-and-losers-and-one-mega-super-huge-loser-222749477.html
  9. "We don't have time to waste a year (evaluating)..." JR Karnisovas acknowledged it can be a long process to begin remaking the team, but he touted the Bulls controlling of all of their draft picks going forward along with the fact they have already started building a roster with young players he believes have upside. "Three and a half years ago, we tried to put that team together. That came out pretty well, but we skipped steps and tried to accelerate the process," Karnisovas said. "Right now we have an opportunity here to play slower and evaluate our young guys." ... "We might get a high draft pick or we might be in the play-in, we might be in the playoffs," he said. "I think I was saying that if this young nucleus can get you to play in the playoffs, I think it's going to be growth in terms of your young players and development. That's worth it for me." espn.com
  10. Major League Baseball could reportedly “walk away” from ESPN in the event the network opts out of its current rights deal after next season. Andrew Marchand and Evan Drellich of The Athletic reported Thursday that MLB would be “unlikely” to reach a new deal with ESPN should it opt out of its contract, a move that the network has long been expected to make. The thought has been that ESPN would opt out and reach a new deal with MLB that would potentially include a lower rights fee or some local rights. Both ESPN and MLB are able to opt out of the deal next month, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said Thursday, though there is no expectation that MLB would be the one to pull the trigger. Manfred said the sides are in talks. ESPN currently owns rights to Sunday Night Baseball, a handful of other exclusive regular season windows (including Opening Day), the Home Run Derby and the entire Wild Card round of playoffs. Its rights fee of $550 million/year is actually a reduction from its previous contract ($700m/year), which included considerably more regular season coverage. John Ourand of Puck reported last year that ESPN was irked about the minuscule rights fees streamers have paid for their MLB packages. ESPN’s inventory is not dramatically different than that of Apple, which pays just $85 million/year for exclusive Friday night doubleheaders. (Apple of course does not have marquee events like Opening Day, the Derby or the Wild Card round, but even those ESPN properties would surely not make up a $465 million/year gap.) https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/2025/02/mlb-espn-contract-talks-opt-out/
  11. Hopefully they corner the market on Gatorade baths... That is not how things have played out. Moncada slumped to a .225/.320/.385 showing in 2020. That looked like a short-season aberration the following year, as he posted a strong .263/.375/.412 slash across 144 games. Moncada’s bat hit another sharp decline thereafter. He combined for a .234/.288/.386 line in nearly 800 plate appearances over the next two seasons. His final year in Chicago was tanked by injury. Moncada suffered a significant left adductor (groin) strain two weeks into the year. He was immediately ruled out for 3-6 months. Moncada didn’t return to the active roster until the middle of September. By that point, the White Sox were playing out the string on the worst season in modern history. It was a foregone conclusion that they’d buy Moncada out for $5MM instead of a $25MM club option. The Sox had little reason to put him back in the lineup. He only made one appearance as a pinch-runner in the final two weeks. His season ended with 12 games and 45 plate appearances. mlbtraderumors.com

  15. Sounds like a quote that would be coming from JR/Getz about the White Sox and not ever signing a $100+ million player, not that $300 million plus isn't ACTUALLY the new cutoff for "star" caliber players.
  16. Reunion with TA and Desastre Personal out there in Anaheim...well, at least it's Orange County, seems more harmless.
  17. "Marlins fans can “get up to 45% off tickets and pick the games that fit your schedule.” Fans can also select “how many tickets to use per game" and "switch your seat location at the stadium.” Fans are considered a “Rising Star” if they invest in a $750 flex credit, which means they “won’t have to pay ticket fees and you'll get a 10% ticket discount.” The more fans invest, the “more of a ticket discount” they will receive. If fans renew through 2026, they will get “priority access and early bird pricing” for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The standard membership plans begin as low as $11.50 per game (ATHLON SPORTS, 8/19)." https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Articles/2024/08/20/miami-marlins-season-ticket-concept/ Very creative...but hard to imagine many Sox fans forking over $750 to Jerry Reinsdorf right now.
  18. "When Ego Meets Incompetence: it’s not a conspiracy, Harrison is just ruinously bad at his job A new GM gets a little taste of success and then decides to blaze a trail of his own brilliance alone" https://www.mavsmoneyball.com/2025/2/6/24359261/when-ego-meets-incompetence-not-conspiracy-nico-harrison-just-ruinously-bad-general-manager "Nevermind the fact that the move he wanted to make, adding Matisse Thybulle, was blocked when the Portland Trailblazers matched Dallas’ offer. Or that Kyle Kuzma, the wing Harrison had his sights on before pivoting to Washington, nixed the trade to stay with the Wizards of all teams. Sometimes, the best moves are the ones you don’t make. Or, in these cases, the ones you are prevented from making due to forces beyond your control."

  20. "The man who orchestrated the entire deal, Nico Harrison, is the same person who fumbled Nike’s pitch to Stephen Curry in 2013, costing the company hundreds of millions of dollars. At the time, Stephen Curry was with Nike, but the company’s attempt to re-sign him was a disaster..."
  21. And Steph Curry... Found this at white sox reddit “Some of the conspiracy theories about Doncic, or reference: The NBA's ratings are down, so the NBA looked for a spark for their marquee franchise, the Lakers. NBA commissioner Adam Silver ordered this trade. The new Mavericks owners, the Adelsons, don't want to hit the second apron that they'd hit by giving Luka the supermax contract, so they cheaped out and traded the guy and made up some excuses about his conditioning and THE WILL TO WIN. The Adelsons want to move the franchise to Las Vegas, where they own casinos, so they are trying to get the Dallas faithful to abandon the franchise and say, "Well, we would've stayed if you supported us..." Think the movie Major League, or the stunt Clay Bennett pulled moving the Sonics to OKC (this sounds pretty familiar!) Mavs GM Nico Harrison is confirmed friends with Lakers GM Rob Pelinka and hence didn't even bother contacting other teams. He was just wanted to help his buddy and is either repaying a debt or is expecting a favor quid pro quo.”

  24. "Last winter, four Boras clients — Cody Bellinger, Blake Snell, Matt Chapman and Jordan Montgomery — waited deep into the offseason to sign. All four settled for short-term deals that included opt-outs. Alex Bregman, another Boras client, remains on the open market the week before pitchers and catchers are due to report. The Soto megadeal was historic, impressive and all the other descriptors you want to use, but it’s tough to grade the Alonso situation as anything but a loss for Boras." https://sports.yahoo.com/mets-win-staring-contest-with-scott-boras-bring-pete-alonso-back-on-short-term-deal-180841663.html
