Jenks was just a rookie and Contreras was highly subsidized by NYY. But the cost of that rotation and wear & tear would eventually drag the team down. You can’t really say it was accidental though when they were competitive in 2006 and got to the playoffs in 2008 with the injection of Alexei Ramirez, bullpen spending and a lot of the same veteran core.
