  1. It's why Rodon was practically destroyed. Only a $3 million commitment and no buyout or QO for $18 million on the line to protect.
  2. George Kirby was threatening this last year...
  3. If they'd given him a reasonable extension they would be on top of the world now. Think of all the guys like Gio Anderson Kopech Lopez Burger Vaughn they didn't consider backing. Montgomery and Crochet were the only interesting talents left to possibly invest in across the entire organization.
  4. Won't be a DFA. Just no way.
  5. Top 3-4 in attendance after shedding $100 million in payroll? Owner died. RSN blew up in a way where they lost more money than practically any team in baseball. Missing two best starting pitchers, likely for the remainder of the season, as well as All Star RF?
  6. Who designed and staffed that same development system?
  7. The truth is, it was probably only a matter of time before Dylan Cease threw a no-hitter. Since 2021, Cease had recorded an astounding 11 starts of at least six innings with just one hit allowed. That’s the most such starts by any pitcher in baseball over that span, and only five pitchers in MLB history have recorded more in their careers: Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Justin Verlander, Bob Feller and Blake Snell, all of whom (except for Snell, who is still seeking his first) have thrown multiple no-nos. Prior to this week, Cease’s closest call had come two years ago against the Twins, when now-teammate Luis Arraez spoiled the bid with two outs in the ninth inning. On Thursday afternoon in Washington, D.C., Cease got it done. Despite an ultra-rare, mid-first-inning rain delay that put his start into question before it even began, Cease took the mound roughly 90 minutes later than expected and proceeded to deliver the outing of his life: a career-high 114 pitches across nine innings with three walks, nine strikeouts and, of course, zero hits allowed. https://sports.yahoo.com/dylan-ceases-no-hitter-marks-the-latest-high-point-in-his-ascent-with-the-padres-055159898.html
  8. Makes me almost miss Benetti's treasure chest of Sox items.
  9. Unprecedented again...
  10. In honor of Deadpool...need a Sox Deadpool/Wolverine bobble, that's probably the ONLY promotion that would sell out the stadium for the remainder of the year.
  11. Does Dylan Cease's no-hitter cap off best three-start stretch ever? - ESPN But DCINAA.
  12. okay. misremembered his second year workload really led to tha disappointing third year and Aiken, even Kolek passing him. Some even coveted Trea Turner his Wolfpack teammate more. And that was the right call in the end.
  13. How many 150 plus inning seasons? Just one. Look at 2017-2020. The Sox in that one 2021 season battered him as much as the NC State coach overused him his last two seasons before his draft year.
  14. nobody in this whole thread is supporting you if haven't noticed...as of yet but there are good posters on both sides!
  15. You're realize ur defending the worst franchise in baseball (at best bottom 4) that gave no iutsiders a chance and promised Chris Getz would hit the ground running and shave one year off the forthcoming non rebuild but retooling rebuild?
  16. If Rodon. had a major injury in late 2021 and never made another big league start, would the Sox have even a prayer of winning that grievance?
  17. PROPOSALS: Dodgers make two massive trades for Crochet and Robert, Jr., Fedde to Brewers and Max Scherzer to the Orioles Arozarena to ROYALS 6 deals we want to see at the MLB trade deadline: Where might Garrett Crochet, Randy Arozarena and others be headed? - Yahoo Sports Dodgers acquire LHP Garrett Crochet from the White Sox for C/1B Dalton Rushing, SS Trey Sweeney and RHP River Ryan Dodgers acquire OF Luis Robert Jr. from the White Sox for OF Josue De Paula, INF Alex Freeland, RHP Ben Casparius and LHP Ronan Kopp Brewers acquire RHP Erick Fedde from the White Sox for 3B Luke Adams and RHP Bishop Letson NINE NEW PLAYERS FOR STRUGGLING SOX FARM SYSTEM!!!
  18. And he can respond with all the arguments in this thread that no pitcher in MLB history with a previous Tommy John and his limited career innings count should ever reasonably be expected to surpass 150-160 innings.... Remember at the beginning of the year when most SoxTalk posters were targeting somewhere around 70-80 IP. Well, he's going to end up nearly doubling that. Totally unprecedented in the recent history of the sport. And Rodon's quite lucky they didn't absolutely destroy him back in the second half of 2021. Jimmy Cordero would be another guy that was absolutely used and abused...to you have an obligation to pitch yourself into career oblivion when you're not feeling well (ouchy) and still push the limits for the "good of the team"? Well, what if the interests of the team and individual are not in alignment at all? If that was your kid, you'd let them push even higher, to 170+ innings? 180? Where does it become ABUSIVE to push him THAT hard? When nobody has ever beaten those odds looking at his university, MiLB and majors workload over the span of roughly 5-6 years?
  19. After the Padres, I remember now. Wasn't around long at all.
  20. I think if you're Garrett and his family/g-f/fiance, etc., you absolutely HAVE to protect yourself first and foremost. With Lloyd's of London insure him against catastrophic injury if he goes over 150 innings this year? At what cost? Because he's arguably in $150-200 million contract territory right now....or less than $10 million, possibly. Hard to argue there are many in-between outcomes here at play.
  21. Ultimate leverage...well, sort of.
  22. A former first rounder we didn't claim???
  23. Then proposed contract should be $30 million if he hits all his reasonable incentive targets over the next four years and $150-175 million if he's a Cy Young-caliber pitcher.
  24. Has any pitcher EVER been ramped up to 130 IP in this unprecedented situation and with this career workload? 140? 150? 160? He gets injured... there will be a grievance against the acquiring team and MLB for forcing him to pitch when he's not feeling 100%. Moncada has gotten away with stealing $29 million this year. Who can prove or disprove how healthy he is or feels? Ben Simmons anyone? Markelle Fultz?
