  1. Carter Hawkins works for the Cubs...basically the GM. The most WASP-y background you can imagine for MLB front office executives.
  2. https://nypost.com/2023/09/12/david-stearns-is-the-right-man-to-lead-the-mets-into-future/ The Anti-Chris Getz named Mets' GM officially
  3. Just trade Kopech for whatever Tier B/C and lottery tickets you can get. He's never going to succeed as a reliever again with all the water under the bridge from failing to meet expectations dating back to the Sale trade and #1 RHP prospect ranking. Better to move on for both sides.
  4. Can't just automatically surrender 2B in high leverage situations like Kopech tends to do...
  5. Uh oh. Kopech in. So much for gradually easing him into the pen. Not that this game really matters in the overall scheme of things.
  6. In some ways, a win like this -- at this point in the season -- felt a bit cruel. The Padres’ record in late-and-close situations has been re-hashed ad nauseam. They’re 0-11 in extra innings, 6-22 in one-run games and 19-41 in one-or-two-run games. Not only was Monday’s win the largest comeback win of the season, but it marked only the seventh time this year they had overcome a deficit of at least two runs. “At the end of the day, it wasn’t that we didn’t want it to happen earlier in the season,” Soto said. “We’ve just got to follow through it. We’re learning a lot from this year, and we keep grinding. We keep fighting.” Credit the Padres with that much at least. Their season appears destined to end earlier than they’d ever anticipated. Yet, they’re clearly still playing hard, clinging to the notion that -- mathematically -- they’re still alive. And for one night, they looked like the team they always thought they could be. In fact, this game felt like a version of what I think we all expected from the NL West race this season. 68-77 + 64 RS/RA EXP W/L 79-66 AJ Casavell, mlb.com
  7. Austin Hedges would be the perfect rebuild choice if we're going to completely give up on getting offense out of that spot in the line-up.
  8. So other than Colas and Lee (not running out a ball, which seemed a pretty benign mistake)...has Grifol actually gone after anyone all year other than the Luis Robert incident?
  9. Well, we have Lee with his laser arm who basically can't do anything besides throw, lol. Miguel Olivo if you really really really stretch the projections.
  10. You can't build up a young team's confidence in 2024 if they don't believe that their bullpen is capable of closing out more than 50% of the games... That said, spending millions on more veteran bullpen arms just to turn around and flip them again, not sure Chris Getz is going to go out of his way to copy Rick Hahn there in his roster construction.
  11. When's the last time the White Sox came back from 9 runs down in a game? Granted, it's against the even lowlier Royals. At home (what fans didn't give up and leave)...too.
  12. Can Remillard even play SS in terms of his arm and range? Better than Madrigal?
  13. 5.65 for Toukki now according to mlb.com 8 in 1 inning is Lucas Giolito Patriots' Day Massacre-esque Jimenez 753 vs Vaughn 747 OPS'es yuck, definition of mediocrity
  14. Might as well talk about Eva Longoria and Desperate Housewives to keep Benetti's attention...
  15. At what point does Sosa no longer become the "sure thing" for 2B next year when he can't even manage anything resembling even a 600 OPS? Same with Lee at catcher, I guess...?
  16. The hitters there are much more disciplined...but he'll probably be penciled into the rotation with Scholtens because they don't have any better or cheaper options. I mean...we're using a 35 year old Bryan Shaw as heavily as any pitcher in the bullpen not named Santos down the stretch.
  17. “That’s the competitiveness we need here with the White Sox,” Getz said. “I certainly want to ingrain that mindset in all our players.” “And the competition is not just going to be based on the tools that you have,” Grifol said. “It’s going to be based on the style of baseball that we want to play. We know we need to hit and we know we need to score more runs and situational hit and all of that, but we also need to play defense and we need to run bases.” Scott Merkin Am at the point already would almost rather hear the sheer predictability of Hahn speak than this crap...
  18. Carter Hawkins' school in Atlanta... "Westminster was founded by Atlanta's leaders as a learning community rooted in Christian values and wholesome intensity. Since 1951, our students have been ..."
  19. https://www.yahoo.com/news/watch-jimmy-other-big-weekend-134723375.html David Wells goes off on Nike, Bud Light, “babied and coddled” modern day ballplayers…that part could have easily have been about White Sox
