  1. Playing Pham in CF is the height of ludicrous...especially if Fletcher is still on the roster. Ortega is AAAA filler.
  2. Wasn't Mena at 93-95 more recently? Sounds like you are talking about Thorpe.
  3. But it was never clear exactly where he was going to play with Moncada struggling so much at second base in 2018. Anderson was clearly the SS. They weren’t going to give up on Moncada…IMO, without Yoan on the roster, though, they almost would have had to sign Manny OR Harper in order to convince fans the rebuild was actually real, or happening. Like the Cubs with Lester. But the brain trust still thought Moncada was going to be a superstar, and he was, for that ONE season in 2019.
  4. Sure…but at some point, the White Sox need the media more than the other way around. It’s not like they have ever even been close in getting equal coverage to the Cubs, at least since the late 1980’s/early 1990’s. The White Sox are pretty much in danger of becoming completely irrelevant. Look at what happened to James Fegan. And just the punchline for national writers to document exactly how NOT to do a rebuild/new stadium proposal. At best…we’re not the A’s. At least not yet.
  5. Machado has maintained all along he wanted to play together with his fellow countryman Tatis and was never all that serious about joining the White Sox…and that he was perfectly happy to play 3B instead of SS.

  7. "It’s going to take a nearly unprecedented turnaround for the Astros to reach the postseason. You have to go back more than 100 years to find the only team in AL/NL history -- the 1914 Boston Braves -- to make the playoffs after tallying at least 19 losses through its first 26 games." Needless to say....not the greatest of odds. Couldn't even make it anywhere near Memorial Day.
  8. What does he really have in common with Mellody Hobson, though? Besides Chicago ties?
  9. https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl-draft-winners-and-losers-no-excuses-as-bears-have-set-up-caleb-williams-to-be-good-right-away-043544081.html Apparently the Patriots and Vikings both were interested in trading for SD's Herbert...
  10. Zobrist has/had a LOT more pop in his bat...based on what we have seen from Baldwin's collegiate and MiLB career. And it's a bit difficult to judge the level of competition for UNC-Asheville vs. a Power 5 conference.

  13. https://www.milb.com/player/brooks-baldwin-681460 Look at the bigger picture. His career MiLB ops is .791, and that's including his lightning-hot start this year. At best, that would translate to the .725-.750 range at the major league level, but most Sox minor league followers would be likelier to expect him to be somewhere down in the mid to high 600s. As a 3B, he would have to be close to 775-825 to be truly valuable (assuming an MLB "average" defensive ranking there). In his first full pro season, 2023, Baldwin blossomed. His hitting and power took nice jumps, and he saw almost as much time at shortstop as he did third base (also seeing time at second, first, center field and left). His wheels on the bases led to a solid 22 steals and more importantly a 80%+ steal rate. .... Baldwin definitely brings versatility beyond that of his pops, as not only a switch-hitter but a player who’s seen action in college at every position but pitcher and catcher. Strangely, despite never playing a game at third base for the Seahawks and just 10 over two seasons in the Cape Cod League, Baldwin is listed as a third baseman in the MLB draft tracker and by the drafting party — usually an indication that’s how the drafting team sees the player. https://www.southsidesox.com/2024/3/4/24090720/2024-south-side-sox-top-prospect-no-27-brooks-baldwin-university-of-north-carolina-wilmington
  14. Critics seem to love the fact that they did the unexpected... Made the focus be firmly placed on all those individual characters, and the ultimate sacrifice the previous episode tipping the political tug of war to Toranaga's site with almost no blood being shed (the very opposite of the samurai/warlord mentality about honor coming from the battlefield). The cinematography alone was amazing. And leaving lots of little clues about our main character without even telling you whether he eventually ended up in England or stayed in Japan for the remainder of his life, very faithful to the spirit of the Clavel novel if not the actual execution.
  15. Getting to be a massive mental block at this point. Just always seems to get off to such slow offensive starts and can never recover and bring up his numbers to decent levels.
  16. How many years (from now) will it take for there to be a "hype" video like that for the White Sox? Seems like ages since Courtney Hawkins' first round flip (or flop?)
  17. It's going to come down to his defensive skills and stolen base/PR ability...very rare are the guys like Zobrist or Chone Figgins that can legitimately play every position on the field and also hit/run pretty well. Jose Oquendo is more the traditional archetype.
  18. But Leury Legend is still the all-time Sox utility guy, along with guys like Grebeck, Yolmer Sanchez and Pablo Ozuna.
  19. Like Marcus Semien?
  20. He can perform both jobs simultaneously and save money for JR by taking just ONE salary. Obviously Bears' salary quite a bit higher, we don't even need to ask. There's the reverse precedent of Paul DePodesta/Jonah Hill of Moneyball to the Cleveland Browns, too.
  21. Yeah...especially at his relatively advanced age as well as injury history. Maybe they feel he can hold up on turf somehow.
  22. Spencer Rattler at #83 the next QB on the board. Michael Pratt Tulane at #160 trails him. Talk about a massive drop off.
  23. Nix feels like even more of a reach than Penix. He somehow disappeared in most of their big games at Auburn as well as Oregon. Bowers=Todd Christensen
  24. Wilson was never going to be dominant or the Padres would NEVER have included him after losing Hader. They blew a 9-4 lead today in the eighth inning.
