  1. If you took Mullins out of it...they wouldn't even assume the contracts on Hays Mountcastle and Urias if you gave them away with no talent leaving SD. Zero need for Urias. The other guys you could find a 1B DH corner guy on the FA market...and/or trade without giving up a single Top 6 prospect in the Padres' system. They would much rather have Mateo for PR and defense. That would embarrass Preller because he used to be SD property.
  2. It was very clearly spent, just on the wrong veterans. Keuchel, Grandal, Lynn, Benintendi, Kimbrel/Pollock, Hendriks and finally Ohtani's new best Dodger friend and acclaimed author/TLR favorite.
  3. Obviously had a much longer history/connection with the Mariners. Parts of three seasons, and it was where he kicked off his MLB career. And the writing was already pretty much on the wall with Bannister brought in and Katz retained. Needed that Royals' connection to secure his position and/or a pay rise. It was a very heartwarming story while it lasted with the Sox.
  4. Sure, WAY too right-handed, and Grandal's already out. Moncada will soon be next. Sheets SHOULD be out of the picture but god knows what becomes of him this year. Benintendi also doesn't have enough pop to matter all that much on the power side of things. At best a 10-15 homer guy at this point in his career, and maybe still in single figures like 2023.
  5. Basallo, Mayo, Kjerstad, Westburg and/or pitching prospect...that's going to be the ask. No way they would risk trading Holliday, and getting just ONE player back for Robert still doesn't move the meter enough....have to get at least 2-3 guys out of it that become at the very least "well above average" (2.5-3 fWAR and up) major league regulars.
  6. Essentially 2 1/2 good years counting his breakout minor league season...where he jumped across multiple levels in one single year and exploded on the scene as a prospect.
  7. That's truly shocking. Even the Pirates are willing to invest more into their future/s than the White Sox at this point. Granted, everyone knew this "recoup last year's lost profits year" was coming down the pike. And the White Sox rebuild potentially got lengthened out even more with the news that Robert will now be getting traded earlier than expected with Boras lurking at the end of the rainbow.
  8. Also more about playoff runs. Those additional two are extremely valuable to the acquiring team.
  9. Soto was the max value at 3 1/2 years remaining...if you compare to value at just 2. Significant difference between the two respective packages.
  10. Assuming he has a healthy/productive season...not sure that's guaranteed at this point in his career.
  11. Wasn’t there an article recently saying the Yankees and Stroman weren’t considered a great match? That it was Cease at 1A and Snell at 1?
  12. Somehow he just fits the vibe more. Which is probably boring to most fans...the idea of primary controlling the ball with the running game, mostly short passes/screens/dump offs and defense. Then again...that sounds a lot like Michogan, too. Just less focus/attention on the coach than the team itself.
  13. Surprised they would cede the division to StL like that...especially with Milwaukee potentially folding. And it's not like the Reds are going to suddenly lose all their momentum by 2024.
  14. Hire Vrabel…Harbaugh will want more control than they’re willing to surrender.
  15. Don’t think Dodgers or Rangers are completely out just yet. Rangers might get a pleasant surprise on new tv deal…they’re holding their powder until finances become crystal clear. Can’t even totally discount the Cubs.
  16. Scared off by Correa, too.
  17. Because he was throwing 102-103 and they thought he could add secondary pitches like Sale and that somehow his body would hold together...contrary to all we know about pitchers with that frame/body mass combined with max velo.
  18. The Royals are generally known for gross incompetence since 2017. Not sure how much room there is for conspiracy theories as well.
  19. Triantos? Pitcher or hitter? Scouting report?
  20. Davis Martin? I can never remember his name clearly, as it's so darned generic. Always makes me think of Davis Love IInd or IIIrd PGAer.
  21. But we've got nearly 20 starters!!! Best depth in MLB...hands down. Charlotte and Birmingham fans champing at the bit for the season to get started. Didn't even need Patino or Urena.
  22. I immediately went there...also saw the name of the Yankee that many are concerned with his hitting profile. Not Jones...another.
  23. Better strikeout rate than Yamamoto...something has to give. Senga throws hard and did quite well last year with NYM...and Kikuchi has picked up 2-3 mph since leaving Japan.
  24. Okay. Still in amazement the Royals ended up with Ragans from the Rangers for Aroldis...and how he actually threw harder as a starter than Cease last year. Maybe we get lucky enough that ONE of those new execs had something to do with that move, but probably not with our luck.
