  1. Definitely not. That requires getting all three outs in a hostile playoff atmosphere on the road, lol. Oakland crowd barely 7000ish for a day game.
  2. They were one of our "charitable umbrella benefactors" when I worked as a program director for a national non-profit from 1998-2002. Good group of people.
  3. The biggest question is whether you can move on with Robert, Cease and Kopech as the heart of the team...and how much that even makes sense with latter two getting closer and closer to FA. It would be one thing if you actually believed that if Robert continues to improve they'll sign him to a massive extension, but that's just not the White Sox style. So what would they be building towards, exactly? 2025 back to competitiveness again? Just one season? That just seems nearly impossible unless someone like Jonathan Cannon going through a meteoric, Daniel Hudson or Brandon McCarthy-esque climb to the major leagues by some point in the 2nd half of 2024.
  4. San Antonio/Austin corridor is one of the most interesting with all the population movement from California to Texas and with numerous tech companies relocating there as well. Three cities in Texas would start to get a bit crowded. HIstorically, Portland and Salt Lake City have had very successful minor league operations in the 80's and 90's, at least one of those new/expansion cities is going to have to be in the west and either would seem a better option than LV. Unless they count Austin as "west," which is perfectly plausible.
  5. Yes, at least that's for a charitable, 501c3 organization that's been pretty well-regarded for decades now.
  6. File in the Fegan thread...not enough interest surrounding any aspect of the White Sox. Or more like apathy/general malaise.
  7. He's not... but he HAS TO BE for the White Sox to actually compete. That ship has probably long since sailed with a tough schedule to get through here and the Twins beating up on the Tigers. 8-9 games back heading into July is certainly a bad enough position to force some dramatic cutbacks to the payroll. They might even play better with younger, hungrier players... unfortunately, not enough that are ALSO talented coming up to replace the veterans.
  8. Kimbrel now ten saves for the Phillies, 4.67 ERA Dodgers' pen in relative shambles.
  9. Diekman created a no out bases loaded situation against the A's in a tie game late but escaped with a DP ball and then another reliever took out Rooker to preserve the tie. Now 4-3 Rays late. ERA down to 5.64.
  10. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jake-burger/22275/stats?position=3B/DH Burger's defensive numbers have definitely improved in 2023. 24 homers in 399 career MLB at bats now. Still hanging in there at 1.2 fWAR versus Moncada at 0.2.
  11. Giolito would be 3rd choice, or Hendriks in particular, if strictly about feel good stories for the media...well, sort of, now that he's out again. Has to be Burger (best combination of Cinderella story and performance) or Robert IMO.
  12. Contract was through the of the season but decided to make Friday last day since he will getting paid through then and can use free time now to pursue new opportunities. Even had air tickets and hotel for Dodgers trip but decided not to go just to say goodbye to all the players and staff...didn't really like talking about himself or hearing plaudits coming his way. Kind of felt like two deaths getting fired and also praised repetitively but that's still not enough to save his job. Didn't watch Lynn start because it's hard for him not to watch like he's going to write a story and follow-up Q's in Google docs. Only about 50-60% of MLB markets have beat writers now with The Athletic. Garfien went over his three firings in five years and Fegan's shared similar story from his time with a South Bend newspaper that was bought out. Seemed a bit frustrated and emotionally drained wondering if there was anything he could have realistically done as a writer in the face if this White Sox season. Cried a lot on Monday morning. Numbers just weren't there to justify his existence. Seems like his wife has a solid job so not at a total loss. Ruminated on getting to this point at 36 despite being pretty fatalistic about the future of print/sports journalism from the very beginning when just starting out at 22. Talked about progression from blogging 2010-2016 in order to improve his writing to the point where it became a full time career.
  13. Honestly, 730-750 seems like a pipe dream now...
  14. https://www.mlb.com/news/all-star-ballot-update-june-12-2023 No sign of Luis Robert in the top twenty for OF. Anderson not even Top Ten...not a shocker, really.
  15. India has been a solid/versatile player, but not exactly a transcendant one. They also have their own big-time disappointment with Nick Senzel. But also much more more quality minor league depth and certainly investment in Latin America. No other choice for small market clubs hoping to survive against the Cubs and Cards.
  16. So you're going to move Burger off third base to 1B or DH just to theoretically get a better return for Moncada? I guess...but this approach isn't working particularly well with Anderson coming off an injury-filled 2022.
  17. How much of that $35-40 remaining on his contract the next 1.6 seasons and buyout of the $25 million 2025 option are the Sox willing to eat? Hahn would never do that... admitting the rebuild is dead. He can still trade Giolito Grandal Lopez Middleton and maybe Anderson without admitting to throwing in the towel for 2024 as well. At least try to spin it. Of course they won't turn around and reallocate any money saved.
  18. You realize Robert is one of the top 5 fWAR players in baseball for those 25/26 and younger...?
  19. Variety of pitches? Repertoire? Movement in out/up down/side to side? Sweeper cutter slider screwball? Two seam/four seam?
  20. Bump. Because they still don't have more than those two answers to this question. Basically nothing has changed with the core offense and its current identity crisis... Here we are... one month later.
  21. Sounds dangerous, lol. Anderson looking at a on 0/5 night.
  22. JD Martinez Peralta Taylor Heyward Muncy and Will Smith on the bench...
