  1. Just hope that Iowa can make it back to the Final Four again. In theory, the first really tough matchup will come outside the first two rounds...but they still lost at home to Creighton two years ago with an arguably better albeit less hyped team. If they lose from that point onwards...it will be to a taller, more athletic and defensive-minded 4/5 team (the only loss outside the Big 10 was to KSU). Here's where they might get a UConn although Huskies could end up a 2-3 seed potentially or for example a VA Tech with Kitley back. Then you get to the Elite 8...maybe. Obviously the fans would like to see LSU-Iowa or LSU-South Carolina again at that point in the proceedings. Under no illusion they could win either a Final Four or championship game without the same type of once in a lifetime game/(and refereeing) similar to last year. Iowa men suck (NIT bound) and Oklahoma is pretty near the cut line for the bubble. Porter Moser has been a slight disappointment...although they were more competitive for the majority of this season than expected. Finally, hope Iowa State can finally put together a really strong NCAA run for once...just for the sake of the state itself.
  2. Another run scores because Vaughn is too short at first and can't make quick readjustments to bad throws. 4-0 already. Two run homer by Canzone. At this rate Keller will get the last spot out of the pen.
  3. Fathom would have enjoyed his slowly limping to first like he'd been shot. Woodford getting hit pretty hard...quite loud Mariners crowd compared to much less enthusiastic Sox fans this spring.
  4. You mean Fox Networks...until they could no longer maintain it with a straight face.
  5. I'm more of the Buffett/Munger school of thought on this. Never invested. Obviously the intrinsic value comes from the underlying block chain technology itself...rather than as a store of actual value, because it's essentially backed more by the faith and belief of its devotees. That's said, it's certainly more interesting personally than NFT's and SPAC's. Not particularly insightful because I decided in the very beginning not to invest. (But then again, I sold BRK.B and bought BABA, which was my second major investing mistake since the late 90s. Which resulted in even more index fund investing.)
  6. He's gotten a number of multiple innings looks. Might be the replacement for Toussaint and another backup starting pitcher as well. Btw, not sure they could give away tickets to watch that lineup other than Moncada and Vaughn...
  7. British A-Levels and IB...pretty standardized cuuriculum that looks at these issues more objectively/historically without attempting to suggest a best or ideal model. But Keynesian is the one that gets the most attention...as well as supply side 1980's Reagan/Bush/Thatcher/Stockman voodoo economics style.
  8. So Cease went with the whole team to Korea it appears...
  9. That's the ONE thing a student here has never selected as a university major upon applying for college... The White Sox certainly could use one or two to chart a strategic vision for the future...what it means to be a member of the organization. This team hasn't really had a unique identity since the 2004-2008 years of Ozzie Guillen and Cooper in charge.
  10. What is your job? The most common thing teachers hear is that just about anyone can do that job...vacations and benefits are too generous, but very few people have the patience required. Which is only about 1/4th of the challenge. I teach Economics, not English...fwiw. And it doesn't matter anyway...I will retire next year at age 54 and enjoy the rest of my life to the best of my ability.
  11. It's never that simple. Mena is throwing harder than he ever has and we don't even know if it's a hot gun or single gun or industry consensus. Let's put it this way...when is the last time someone in the final quintile of Top 100 prospects saw a 2 mph change transform himself into one of the top pitchers in the game? Especially when they velocity difference was in the below 95 range, which is usually pretty negligible compared to jumping from the mid to high 90s... The best pitching prospects Preller has ever traded away are Max Fried, Mackenzie Gore and Cal Quantrill. Color me skeptical. And Fried was one of his earliest deals as a GM. Unprecedented control of his pitches...we shall see. Those who have watched White Sox baseball since the 1970's have heard a lot of these similar comps that never panned out.
  12. Not sure that a Top 1-2 prospect in the game who was a dominant power out of USC is the best comp. You're describing the second version of Prior.

  14. https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/depth-charts/white-sox FG has Nastrini and Crochet in the rotation, Leasure making bullpen Bench of Stassi Mendick Pillar Sheets Wilson Brebbia D.Garcia Kopech Hill Banks Leasure...Toussaint as last pitcher on the roster. Keller better not be the next starting option.
  15. Jim Callis looks unhappy lol... Higher on Caissie and Busch. 7 games now cancelled....interestingly, Mariners/Padres Prospects game listed as postponed instead. SF and Oakland lost their prospects game as well.
  16. Marquee still has those three announcers on (one woman) talking about Noah Schultz...even though he want scheduled to pitch in this one.
  17. Sigh....was looking forward to Horton vs. Montgomery, and seeing how Gonzalez looked offensively.

Via Merkin On Crochet bring a rotation candidate or even OD starter? "That’s a different question, one Crochet wouldn’t commit to after throwing three scoreless innings on Thursday. “I’m in a good place building up and we’ll kind of see when camp ends. The competition is still very much ongoing,” Crochet said. “I’m kind of trying to keep passing the test they are throwing my way and make it a tough decision for them in the end.” “He's on his way to do whatever is needed,” Katz said. “He's in a good place and we don't need to add or do anything different to what we've been doing.” Crochet has just 73 total innings in the Majors over three seasons as a reliever. So, the White Sox will need to be watchful with his usage and how he recovers from each start."
  19. He did...with the Nationals.
  20. C now, but definitely B-ish coming off those numbers in KC and NY.
  21. Braves sent two pitchers who quickly went down in ST for Kelenic...
  22. The one he took isn't nearly as powerful as most...and it certainly doesn't help someone to make contact with a baseball. If he's closer to 800-850 again, it would be hard to argue he's on steroids still. He put all those pinball numbers up with a permanently recurring shoulder popping in and out of place due to repeated dislocations.
  23. And the speed differential between the two pitches narrowed, presumably. From 10-12 mph, closer to 7-9.
  24. It was always about his height and extension...yes? Because the fastball always looked 2-3 MPH faster simply due to how long he was and how many milliseconds less the batter had to react to the pitch...think he was somewhere in the Top 5 or Top 10 for this category in all of MLB.
  25. You're starting to sound like my law firm, lol. Never mind. Puerto Rico it is. Have already done the whole SA/Austin/Alamo/Riverwalk thing but now with a family to see it. Still get to see White Sox at Rangers on Monday, July 22nd in that mausoleum-like stadium. Thankfully out of the heat.
