The one who's closest to competing would be Logan Gilbert, but it's far from certain SEA would move him...especially based on their recent series of moves to open up an additional $40 million of payroll space.

They can easily afford the additional $1.2 billion or whatever it's going to take...at one point the franchise was listed at around $2.0-2.1 billion, but you'd have to think after the last two years and with the unsettled ballpark future, it would be closer to $1.8-1.85 for an asking price. Obviously those optimists about MLB are going to expect $2.3-2.5 million, at the very least.

Why would any team want Merrifield starting in RF at this point in his career? He's not even a very good flip candidate. It's not like he was a key piece on their WS teams...he was a next generation player for KC, so called bridge to nowhere.

Nick Martinez signed 3 years/$26 million coming back from Japan...fairly similar numbers except for commitment to third season. White Sox definitely seem to be looking at a theoretical 2026-29 contention window, although many or most want be surprised if it's not 2027. Going to be a lot of shuffling of non core pieces to get to those rosters...much more so than 2017-19 White Sox.

And the Japanese phenom at $200-225 million...
