  1. Sure...but none of those guys other than Vaughn were considered really legit prospects when they arrived in Chicago. Totally different expectations. In the end, the best teams take the elite up the middle CF SS 2B C athletes and push them to the corners and DH rather than the other way around.
  2. 7 hitters at .233 or under...
  3. Joe Borchard never even got a real extended shot compared to Kelenic. Took Crede and Rowand multiple seasons to break into the lineup. Beckham and then Anderson were the last two position player rookies allowed to start every single day. Brian Anderson was benched and Viciedo only gift wrapped lefties by Ozzie until 2012. TLR turned on Yermin. Semien the obvious miss with this style of indoctrination. Eduardo Escobar as well as they were pigeon holed as super utility guys early with the Sox. Alex Call eventually made it to the majors as an extreme split platoon guy. Luis Gonzalez last year with SF. Trayce Thompson had runs with the Sox and Dodgers but has never been able to put it together for an extended period. Very hit and miss... especially outfielders. recently. Colas just the latest.
  4. Vaughn and Sheets are doing just fine this year...they are what they are, although one would like to believe Andrew would make at least an All Star Game or two after Tim Anderson is off the roster. From where Burger was drafted and after those two Achilles' injuries, it was almost a miracle even to just make it up to the majors.
  5. Mock praise articles for Hahn might get under his skin even more...
  6. Loss tonight and there will be a tie for last place with KC at 7-21. Pace for 40.5 wins and currently four full games behind the mighty Tigers. On the plus side, we no longer have to watch AJ Pollock hit .120 and saved money for Benintendi instead lol??? Also, Devers with 10 homers... Benintendi and Moncada might not catch that for the year at the rate things are going.
  7. Last year was terrible. He's fine as a back end guy but clearly not close to his 1/2 All-Star days. His velocity 3-4 years ago was 94-97 touching 98 occasionally. Now he's consistently low 90s. He maintains his ten plus MPH differential with FB and change.. but lacking a consistent third pitch with curve/slider has always made the balancing act for a pitcher with now below average FB velocity more challenging, as 2022 demonstrated. Among qualified pitchers, only Berrios was worse last year. Obviously going through 3-4 major mechanical overhauls has not been easy... plus the arbitration disputes and his role as a union rep. He and Katz are undoubtedly on their way out eventually as JR will never in a million years give him an eight figure extension for a rebuilding team.
  8. Not even in the same area code in terms of prospect pedigrees. Ventura one of the greatest NCAA hitters of all-time. Colas fringe Top Ten in some of the best minor league systems...arguably, average would be #6-7 placement. Think of the years when Josh Fields, Jerry Owens or Andy Gonzalez were Top Ten for the Sox... for example.
  9. Jimenez and Robert have to be right up there. Cease is the only one to markedly improve from the time of acquisition. Giolito clearly did... but has now plateued as more of a 3/4 guy in most rotstions... closer to 4 than 3. Dunning has looked much better for the Rangers this year... fwiw.
  10. Shades of Anderson vs. Mackowiak debate... of course throwing Sheets and Jimenez into the outfield will lead to numerous miss plays and eventually injuries with Sheets and Robert nearly colliding last game due to a lack of communication and/or stubbornness.

  12. Verlander and Scherzer...Bartolo Colon for much of his career until becoming a junk baller in 40's.
  13. All except Lynn, Kelly and Andrus at the moment will return at least something. Hendriks is a massive question mark in terms of potential moves this upcoming deadline. Cardinals night want Lynn and Kelly together as a package deal... for example. Lynn has roughly $15 on his deal left plus pretty sure a 2024 buyout as well. JR won't eat that much until he runs him out there to either recover trade value or at least preserve the pen over the next 6-8 weeks when the weather warms up.
  14. Top velocity obviously not working... Tepera was one of the most effective his season with the Sox and hardly a flamethrower.
  15. You'd actually rather have Martin in the rotation?
  16. Imagine they had actually signed Shark and Alex Gordon... yikes.
  17. https://www.mlb.com/news/playoff-odds-changes-since-opening-day Risers 5) Cubs: +16.7 (11.2% to 27.9%) Despite a busy offseason in which they signed Dansby Swanson, Cody Bellinger and Jameson Taillon, among others, the Cubs had the fifth-worst postseason odds in the NL entering 2023. However, Chicago’s offense has been surprisingly potent, leading the NL in runs per game behind strong starts from Bellinger, Nico Hoerner, Ian Happ and Patrick Wisdom. Taillon went down with a groin injury after three starts, but Marcus Stroman, Justin Steele and Drew Smyly have picked up the slack in the Cubs’ rotation, combining for an 8-3 record and a 2.16 ERA over 15 outings. Apr 26, 2023 · Yusei Kikuchi's eight-K game BIGGEST FALLERS 1) White Sox: -26.2 (30.5% to 4.3%) Although their playoff odds were only 30.5% on Opening Day, there were reasons to be optimistic about the South Siders’ chances of bouncing back from a disappointing 81-81 season in 2022. So much for that. The White Sox lost their ninth straight game and 14th out of 16 on Friday to fall to 7-20. Collectively, the team was hitting .231 with a .662 OPS and owns a 5.75 ERA with a 1.60 WHIP. Only the Royals and A’s have a worse run differential than Chicago’s -58, and FanGraphs now gives the White Sox less than a 5% chance of reaching the postseason.

  20. There was talk, following the 3-2 White Sox loss to the Rays on Friday night at Guaranteed Rate Field, of the fight and energy that the South Siders have shown. Quite frankly, though, those intangibles have seemed absent in the team’s past three contests. Fight and energy ultimately mean very little when a team is mired in a nine-game losing streak, as the White Sox are. Their 7-20 record marks their worst start to a season since an identical run in 1950, as they dropped nine games behind the Twins in the American League Central. “Everyone’s trying, but trying doesn’t get the job done. We’ve got to do it. We’re not, so it’s frustrating,” starting pitcher Lucas Giolito said. “I hate losing. I'm going out there trying to win these games. I know we're all trying, but we've got to do it. We've got to turn this thing around. “It [stinks]. There aren't too many words to describe it. … I have faith in these guys, faith in myself. We've just got to try and put it together.” Scott Merkin/mlb.com
  21. So you're going to get TA7 Giolito Lynn Lopez Grandal Clevinger Graveman Andrus etc. all go untraded with nothing in return?
