Old Sox Drawer: 2023 Edition
It was a homecoming for Giolito, who’s from Santa Monica, but his time with the Angels spanned just six starts. He had a 1-5 record , 6.89 earned-run average and .258 opponents batting average. He blamed himself for the underwhelming performances while crediting the Angels pitching, analytics and biomechanics staffs for helping him make quick adjustments that he said improved his velocity and the ride on his fastball. “They did everything in their power to help me be as successful as possible,” Giolito said. “I didn't get the job done. It's unfortunate how that played out, but it's part of the game. You move on and just try and stay present. Like right now, I'm here and I want to finish strong for [the Guardians] and do everything I can to help give us a chance to sneak into the playoffs.” yahoo.com/sports

Rebuild rankings: Sox 7th out of bottom 9
https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb-rebuild-rankings-2023-which-teams-will-look-back-on-this-season-as-the-start-of-something-better-195940792.html Ahead of KC and A's. Getz decision second-guessed, not surprisingly.

You're willing to bet your house he will put up a 775 ops next year when his future contract situation will finally be in doubt? Other than getting rid of that contract and possibly getting something in trade return like Eder...he's irrelevant to the Sox future.

Of course our best pitcher is one of the 3-5 most unlikeable in baseball and has that annoying "ants in his pants" nervous pre delivery routine.

The Rangers are really struggling down the stretch here in the face of the Mariners/Astros onslaught but hard not to consider this season to be successful overall considering the 2022 record.

Slight difference in the price tags but point taken. Marlins wouldn't have been able to afford him without Sox subsidizing 75-80% of the cost.

What's Left For Sox Fans?
That's one of the benefits of watching Korean dramas ever since we were forced inside for months and months during Covid....even the first semester last school year. You're only committed for 12-16 episodes...and you can always stop at any point and there's so much material and so many diverse genres that weekends which used to be dedicated to Sox baseball can be filled with something much less predictable and usually more enjoyable to boot.

Kopech to the bullpen, Urena starting Saturday.
The 27-year-old right-hander put together a solid first half despite walking 49 in 86 innings, striking out 97 and posting a 4.08 ERA through 17 starts. But Kopech’s fortunes have dipped through 10 second-half starts, with a 7.49 ERA, 39 hits and 11 home runs allowed and 40 walks issued against 32 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings. Kopech and Dylan Cease are the only starters presently penciled into the 2024 rotation. So, the White Sox would like to see a strong finishing kick from a hard-working hurler who has not completed at least six innings since June 4 and has worked less than five in five straight starts. -- Scott Merkin

Burger To Marlins
I was just referring to dWAR and oWAR numbers with Muncy and Burger. Jake is now up to #10 among MLB 3B. It would be the classic Sox way to go from a 27 year old cost-controlled player to a 33 year old FA in Muncy who's obviously going to be magnitudes more expensive. 14.3 -2.9 2.7 Burger 12.5 -2.5 2.6 Muncy

Burger To Marlins
You apparently haven't watched him the last week. And his defense has normally since 2021...especially with regular playing time, and not having to focus on 2B and 1B as well. He's basically the exact same offensive and defensive profile as Max Muncy this year with the Dodgers. The Marlins have had no issue with sticking him in the lineup every day at 3B for Jean Segura. He's somewhere between the 12th and 14th best 3B in baseball depending on which metric or standard you use, but certainly in the Top 50% at the position.

9/6 4th Place Sox at 5th Place Royals
Bryan Shaw and his 5.46 ERA has just taken over the 2024 closer's role. Contract extension forthcoming? Thought Shaw was close to 40. Still just 35, lol. Seems like he has been around forever.

Burger To Marlins
Who's going to play 3B after 2024? Ramos is going to need to be a 20-30 homer guy...and while that's a possibility, not having Burger on the roster puts more pressure across all the other positions on the roster other than Robert (and you can't discount him at some point feeling too much pressure to carry the team and with nobody to protect him in the lineup as well). We haven't had a permanent DH because we couldn't field a guy who could 1) consistently stay healthy and 2) hit over 800 against both RH and LHP respectively. If we had a Yordan Alvarez, you can be pretty sure he wouldn't be sitting on the bench very often.
