The I Don't See a Game Thread in the 7th Inning of a Game Game Thread Sox v. Twins
Rooting hard for 62-100... Hard to imagine the Twins losing any of these games. White Sox already playing like it's the very last game of the season. Wouldn't be shocked if Colas goes AWOL in Charlotte as well.

DVS hints at issues...
Well, we knew that Sheets and Burger were really close and used a lot of the same tech as well as likely shared hitting philosophies....not that it helped Gavin much this year. Might as well trade him as a platoon (maybe) DH to Baltimore and reconnect him with his father's MLB legacy because he has no future in Chicago.

Merkin teases possibility of a Clevinger reunion in 2024, Kopech in rotation next year as well
https://www.mlb.com/news/mike-clevinger-records-quality-start-in-tough-luck-loss-vs-royals “He gets his stuff done and he gets himself ready to pitch,” Grifol said. “This was a good outing, a really good outing. The ball is jumping out of his hand. He’s been really fun to watch this year.” With a 3.61 ERA over 21 starts, Clevinger has been the most consistent member of the ‘23 White Sox rotation. The team has only Cease as a set starter for ‘24, although Grifol has said Michael Kopech is a starter moving forward despite currently working out of the bullpen. So, could Clevinger be a fit in Chicago beyond this one year? The White Sox have a $12 million mutual option, the sort of options not often picked up with both sides needed in the mix, with a $4 million buyout. “We’ll see. They haven’t talked to me about anything,” Clevinger said. “I’m definitely open to talking with them. We’ll see where it goes. Right now, my body is in a great spot and everything is coming out nice.”

Is Moncada back to being good?
Only another $140-150 million to go....but the majority across just three players. Clevinger in some ways might be the most interesting case because there are so many sides to it.

Shocking! Or that the Blue Jays haven't swooped in now and picked up KW and son...

Is Moncada back to being good?
Benintendi cumulatively put up 3.1 fWAR for 2019/20/21. Of course he's now shockingly at 0.3 when you subtract him from the Yankees.

Is Moncada back to being good?
Ironically...two of the better hitters in Moncada and Burger couldn't fit on the same roster together. But we still do have plenty of room for Benintendi Andrus Sheets Vaughn Eloy Grandal etc.

Collateral Damage
Lol. There are two sides to every coin. There isn't the FDIC system here to insure bank deposits for example. OTOH...with the entire country and economy being so shaky and uncertain right now, the LAST thing the government can afford to do is something that will be universally unpopular that has to do with money. Just a few protests in December (mostly university students) last year crushed a three year old government Covid policy imperative. American politicians...OTOH...have almost zero fear of the electorate. It's a bit ironic that democracy worldwide has become increasingly non - responsive to the needs and wants of the majority of people. (All that said, freedom wins out for now...in the end. The problem is who is deciding the limits and scope of that freedom, though.)

Collateral Damage
It has been that way for at least 3-5 years over there...yes?

Collateral Damage
This is the case in the US. I haven't touched paper currency since 2019 except when traveling. Imagine everyone in the US had a cell phone that they used for every single transaction you make in daily life...and every single one went through the equivalent of Visa or MasterCard, except it was Alipay and Weixin Wallet instead. That's China. It's much faster...it's outside of the traditional banking system...but the government still has a ton of oversight and essentially or ultimately control in terms of regulations. One of the benefits is that let's say literally anyone can open a market stall and sell their wares online or off. Heck, lots of former teachers are making huge money livestream selling everything from lipstick to agricultural products. And it will be delivered to your door within hours...no more than a day or so, for less than $1 with no tipping. Labor costs being so low is what makes the entire system work...along with the cultural mores where tipping just doesn't exist. (Japan also has no tipping but perhaps the best customer service level in the entire world. And it's not even close.) And speaking of Covid...one of the first storylines pushed out there was that paper currency could spread the disease. So that false belief and propaganda pretty much overnight pushed the entire country of 1.4 billion to accept this type of cashless payment system without any serious/significant pushback.

And imagine his motivation level after taking a significant pay cut from the mid 20 millions? No no no no no.

Is Moncada back to being good?
It would be nice if young prospects could put up OPS numbers in at least the 650ish range to provide SOME hope. The numbers from Lee Colas and Sosa have been almost abysmal. And we already know Remillard is a last man on the active roster type at best. I mean...Brian Anderson back in 2006 looks like Torii Hunter again compared to some of these Sox hitters.
-
Is Moncada back to being good?
Sounds like a reverse of Rodon situation...where we get another peak from him at the end of his Sox career. Yet he moves on to another organization before turning 30.

2023: MLB news not AL Central-related
https://www.nbcsportsboston.com/mlb/boston-red-sox/five-potential-replacements-chaim-bloom-red-sox-general-manager/552909/ Reading this list of FIVE guys already starts to make one's blood boil. The Sox are poised to waste yet another five years before something dramatic is bound to transpire with Reinsdorf's health and the upcoming GRF stadium lease issues. How could they line Chris Getz up with those names and reach the conclusion he would be a full one year ahead of any of those dudes? And that's not even counting Theo Epstein and now Bloom. Or Jeffrey Luhnow. BTW Red Sox ownership already ruling out an Epstein to the rescue scenario. Seems he's only looking at ownership situations but much long-term than what the Marlins went through with the relatively brief Derek Jeter experiment/experience.

White Sox are the third worst team in one-run games
Twins added Jorge Lopez in 2022 and he was a complete dud after All Star level in 2022. Duran and Clase (CLE) both have great stuff but not nearly as dominant as they both were in 2022. Even with 100+ there are so many guys throwing nearly that hard like a Santos on the Sox it's easier to time than years past.

If the goal is 90+ losses again...they will stick with their current bullpen churning the deck from the waiver wire philosophy. The Royals worked because you had three near quasi elite relievers simultaneously (and relatively cost controlled) in Holland Davis Escobar near their primes simultaneously.

2023-24 NFL Season Thread
What the heck happened with DJ Moore? He was hyped up the entire off season on sports radio as a near superstar level of talent. Feels more like overhyped Sox FA moves in years past....Steve Sax or Cory Snyder.

Padres Thread 2023
Not only that...but they have Hader, who has been excellent for most of the year. The one run record is mostly due to the remainder of that pen...and a complete lack of clutch hitting.

Chase Claypool individually taking a lot of heat for lack of effort and effectiveness blocking downfield. Looks like St. Brown might already be taking his place on active list as early as this weekend.

It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
Then 1/3rd of America qualifies, lol. In all seriousness, did we honestly expect Dave Wilder was going to respond to questions related to JR/KW/Hahn by first apologizing to White Sox fans for destroying our Dominican operations going on almost 20 years later?
