After getting 2 infield hits and an error with infielders getting a glove on each ball the I's had the bases loaded for Hernandez who grounded into a double play. First batter to start the 8th gets an infield hit, beat out the throw. That's a gay way to lose a no hitter.

Harrell with a 1-2-3 7th. The announcer sounded impressed when he saw his fastball clocked at 93. He got ahead of batters the batters there as well as a couple nice defensive plays by Francisco Hernandez and a diving catch by the recently signed Bernie Gonzalez. It's official. I checked out the press conference, but couldn't get in the library. However, it was on our HS' radio station. Scheyer said the standard Bull Durham lines about how he loved both schools and it was close and that's why it took so long. He also mentioned how he idolized the Laettner Duke teams and it sounds like as soon as they came calling he knew he was going there but also knew he couldn't rush the decision. It was pretty cool to see all the news trucks outside (2, 5, 7) and a lot of people at the press conference.

Scheyer is a big deal because he is the best player in Illinois in the class of 06. It's a test of how Illinois will be able to recruit off that amazing season they had in their own state. I suppose the thinking is that if Illinois can't get the best player in their own state after going 35-2 or whatever then they aren't going to stay as one of the elite teams in the country. I'm not saying I believe that, but it is what it is.

Right on with that post. If playing time wasn't a factor Scheyer would be at Duke in a heartbeat IMO. Scheyer can be part of something big at Illinois and be one of the big reasons instead of a side attraction. I told wharris this, if Scheyer goes to U of I, I think Sherron Collins is a lock for U of I as well. That's pure speculation and a hunch, but they are on the same AAU team and would be the starting backcourt of the future for U of I.

Say he continues to pitch like he has...can he get to AAA by the end of this year or are the Sox playing it slowly with him? Could we see Jenks pitch all of 05 in AA and then get a spot with the Sox next year?
