Yeah, weird. Plus he's hitting .370 so far. Wouldn't that be weird to be rooting for Carlos Lee, but it's not really Carlos Lee?

A little late on this but might as well post the boxes anyway. Charlotte was off. Daigle HRd in 7-2 W-S loss. Rodriguez with a rough outing. Box Score Kanny lost 6-5. Berry 3-5 with a run. De Los Santos 2-4 with a RBI. Hansen 2-5 with 2 doubles and a run. Francisco Hernandez does in fact remember how to hit the ball! Ok, maybe that's harsh, but he went 2-5 with 2 RBI last night. Russell only lasted 4 innings. Box Score

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 3, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) Kwame = suspended for the rest of the playoffs. Damnit, Mr. Automatic Turnover is only going to help the Wizards by not playing. My favorite Scottie quote from his announcing so far, "I don't like anything about his game," when speaking of Kwame. -
QUOTE(T R U @ May 3, 2005 -> 11:28 AM) Wont happen.. Emeka is gonna be ROY And deservedly so.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ May 2, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) Why the hell not? Are you trying to start crap here with everyone? You should be the last person to argue with people over wording. You are calling people tools for using pet names and do it in other threads. I knew what school Winslow went to, I was thinking Miami and accidentally typed Florida. It was a simple mistake. I knew what I was thinking and most of the other people in the thread didn't seem too worried when I made a faux pas. You really need to relax. For the record you said at Florida, which would imply a school or something that is not a state. You would say in Florida if it was the state. Relax, admit you screwed up, no one cares, and move on.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 2, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) Why is this? Is it because of the Donny Leon thing a couple days back? He wasn't activated til yesterday. He'd been on the roster all year. I still called it.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 2, 2005 -> 09:28 PM) This replaces Pedro's spot in Charlotte. Heads, I own you.

Down 9-3 the Cards scored 7 runs in the top of the 9th to win 10-9. The Reds did have 1st and 2nd one out only to ground into a dp. Wow, great stuff to watch. I love watching large comebacks in the 9th. Nothing like the desperation.

QUOTE(Randar68 @ May 2, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) Why is that? Most of those prospects only spent short stints there or were only in Kanny for short periods after being drafted. Young, Valido, and Schnurstein were the only ones really to spend much more than a month or 2 there. Where are the pitchers? They cycled through... Yeah, I should have emphasized that point in the article. The point remains that last year's group had more talent than this year's group. It's taken miracle work from Gio and Liotta and great bullpen work to keep them around .500 the way the offense is hitting. Looking at the top 25 guys that played on Kanny last year... Haigwood was inconsistent, we put him on the prospect list because we think that last year's numbers were lower due to his ACL injury that had him miss a full year. Gray, Young, and Schnur were pretty good the entire year for them. Valido had a rough year with the bat. Fabio Castro is a middle reliever, he was solid, but minimal team impact. Andy Gonzalez played around a month with Kanny. Whisler made only a few starts after the draft. BMac was promoted midseason. Gio and Hernandez barely played with them after late season promotions. Again, I probably should have emphasized this a little more. Still though, that's 8 guys that started the season with Kanny while it's hard to see more than 5 or 6 possible solid prospects to start the season on this year's roster.

It's funny because Williams had a great series and sports writers always talk about putting things in perspective when something serious happens outside the sports world. They talk about how sports is secondary and this douchebag writer was trying to make Williams into a bad guy for that quote. I'm not saying Williams is a saint, but I see nothing wrong with that quote. -
Birmingham loses 7-4. Young 3-4, Owens 2-4. Villacis rocked, 6 unearned runs. Solid bullpen. Box Score W-S loses 1st of doubleheader 1-0. 3 hits as a team.Box Score Kanny wins 6-5. Liotta not his best work. Ricks 2-4, 2 runs, another walk. Box Score

2005 Kannapolis Intimidators Season Outlook Can great pitching carry subpar offense? Last season the Kannapolis Intimidators had loads of talented young prospects. The rotation featured a deep one through five with Brandon McCarthy leading the group and going on to one of the best seasons in all of the minor leagues. The lineup included many prospects such as Micah Schnurstein, Robert Valido, Thomas Brice, Chris Young, Andy Gonzalez, and Antoin Gray. At various times twelve of our Top 25 prospects played for the Intimidators last season. Despite the talent the team only managed a 69-70 overall record, failing to make the playoffs. This year’s team has a different makeup, whether that is good or bad remains to be seen. Only four current Intimidators found their way onto our Top 25 list, IF/C Adam Ricks (#21), LHP Ray Liotta (#14), LHP Gio Gonzalez (#8), and C Francisco Hernandez (#7). Currently the Intimidators stand at 12-11 in South Atlantic League play, two games behind Southern Division co-leaders Augusta and Charleston. more...

It looks like Crede is about to spit on the ump.

Norton 3-4, Burke 2-4 with a HR. Adkins had a decent start, the bullpen struggled though. Box Score W-S got rained out.
-
Wow, good to see winning continue/start up again.
-
I don't know. Dmitri Young trying to bunt a ball that bounced off the dirt was pretty funny.
-
This is ugly. Lopez is supposed to have great hands defensively, but he should have started this season in AA. Valdez is lost through waivers and then he starts in AAA overmatched. Now he is in the bigs. Wow, good luck kid, you're gonna need it.

QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Apr 29, 2005 -> 04:57 PM) I'd probably lean towards McCutchen over Tulo myself if it weren't for the age/experience difference. With the failure rate of high school prospects, I tend to favor college guys. I tend to favor college guys myself. Not only because they are more likely to succeed but signability is almost a non-issue in most cases. Then again if a guy goes 1st round, he's signing or he's an idiot (or has an idiot agent).

Good article. That gives us an early name of Sox draft possibilities.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 09:01 PM) But, what I'm saying, is -- since we won't have to spread out big money to would-be second round or supplemental picks, why not just pay Drew? Money isn't the issue. Signability is. A team is going to be more willing to pick him in the 5th or 6th round and lose him than pick him in the 1st and lose him. This is from the 'Early Draft Preview' from BA on 1/31.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 08:05 PM) Dan, what does Fields throw again (pitches)? I don't remember. Jason did a piece of him for FS, but when we moved the site all the old articles got lost. I'm sure Jason knows as well as our Baron experts. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) Ahem, he said OFFENSIVELY Yeah, well that about sums up the Charlotte offense doesn't it? Burke is hitting well lately, that's something. Spidale has improved since his initial slump returning from injury, but he has done nothing special. The offense doesn't have many prospects.
-
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 08:02 PM) I don't get that. San Diego would have taken him first easy if Boras wasn't his agent... Maybe not first round value, but definitely (IMHO) a first round talent. Yeah, that's what I meant. He will fall a few rounds because of his agent. Let's just realize how ridiculous of a statement that is. Personally, that's what you fire agents for, not hire them. Either way, he will still get paid first round money so the only way to make up for that will be to take him in a lower round so at least whoever takes him didn't waste a first round pick if they can't sign him.

Person got owned in his Charlotte debut tonight. Anderson 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs. Ugly pitching all around. Box Score Honel 5.2 IP, 4 R. He is toast IMO. Young and Aceves have HR'd. Box Score Hogs lose 8-2. Dizard struggled in his 1st start, Bakker rocked out of the pen.Box Score Lucas Harrell with 7 shutout innings for Kanny. Ricks drew 4 walks and had no official at-bats. He has more walks than hits this season, lol. 4 RBI for Berry in the 6-2 win. Box Score

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) Fair enough. I should add that he will become a bargain for someone as he will probably slip well below the 1st round and some large market team will get great value with his pick. He's not worth a 1st round risk IMO.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 28, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) Why is that Dan?? Cause of the money issues or just something you don't like about him? He's not worth the price tag along with the risk that he won't sign until late anyway. Besides, I doubt JR will ever spend a load of money on a draft pick after Borchard, and I can't blame him. You don't need to spend loads of dollars to be successful in the draft. The Sox look like they drafted rather well with their pitchers last year, but it is still quite early.
