  1. I noticed that too. Personally I think Gonzalez had a better year last year, but considering age Lopez is way ahead. Regardless, Lopez needs to learn to walk if he wants to be a top of the lineup guy. Lopez had an OPS of .675 in W-S, that's pretty bad. His on base was only .328, not good for a top of the lineup guy. Gonzalez had a pretty solid year for the Hogs after not deserving his promotion there in the first place. I'm curious as to why he did so badly in Birmingham though. These 2 guys are definitely interesting cases though.
  2. This is true. A game like stud (which I personally enjoy a lot, though it's hard to do for an extended period of time unlike hold em) forces you to be very aggressive and play draws or you will never win. You have to analyze more communities while hold em only has 1, but there is nothing that beats a nl hold em tourney.
  3. I wish I had FSW so I could watch the soccer. Rugby and Aussie Football make no sense to me so I find it hard to watch.
  4. Wow, I just made one heck of a heads up comeback. I was playing a party poker NL hold em tourney, 10 players. I got to heads up down over 10 to 1 in chips, yet to win a hand. The chip leader had done his fair share of bluffing, heavy betting, and loose calling. He had done a good job of buying pots for a while, most players had grown weary of his heavy betting and having the hands occassionally to back it up. So I decided I would wait for my cards, get a couple hands and wait for him to make the mistake. Oddly enough I flopped a full house and got a straight on the turn on back to back hands, while slow playing deeper than normal waiting for him to buy the pot. Unfortunately he never made such a move and as soon as I made even the minimum bet on each hand he folded. The next 2 hands he raised huge amounts pre flop, and I was very aggrevated at his timing. I had a couple good starting hands so I raised pre flop, doubling the blind, he would reraise me back, and I would then go all in. As the favorite both times I won. Now the chip disadvantage was a little less than 3 to 1. At this point it wasn't about doubling up, it was about playing good hands well to bait him into calling. I landed a king on the flop one hand to give me top pair. He raises a large amount, I call. He continues to bet, but much less after each card. I called all the way through only to see he was betting with 2nd pair on the flop which I believe ended up as 3rd pair on the board. I had the chip lead after that hand, although barely. I continued to be patient and wait for him to make the mistake of betting way too much when I had a hand. After going back and forth I ended up with j 10 suited diamonds. I tripled the blind because I felt it was a solid enough hand to test how he would react to such a raise, he called. The flop comes all low cards with 2 diamonds so I decide to raise again, staying aggressive, betting just under what the pre flop raise was. In most cases this probably would have been a mistake because of the bad flop. The other guy probably got 2 possible reads: bluff, pocket pair. It was a semi-bluff on my part. He came back over the top and probably thought I was bluffing. He bet most of his and my chips, so the tournament was likely to be decided on this hand. Thankfully, I landed another diamond after calling his flop bet. At this point it was a matter of how much more I could get out of him. Considering the heavy betting earlier in the hand I thought, 'What the hell, let's shove 'em all-in.' The pot was around 10 times of what I had left so it made sense. He called with barely any chips left. He had q j offsuit (no diamonds)...interesting call, though he was pot committed after thinking I was bluffing at the pot on the flop. River didn't matter, I finished off what little he had left soon after that hand. That was awesome. And holy crap, I just posted a page and a half worth double spaced in Word. I wasn't going to let Soxtalk log me out and destroy my long post.
  5. I hate loose players, they are such lucky pricks. That or they lose early. It's bull. I should add that I've been told I play too many hands pre flop. Another person told me, in the middle of the hand no less, that I never bluff. A person wanted me to call and this guy said, "It's Danny, he never bluffs." The next night I pulled a straight bluff from pre flop to river. The one guy who thought I was bluffing had a high card ace or something and I had something like 3rd or 4th pair.
  6. If I want a guy for one year it's clearly Bonds, but if I want a guy to build my franchise around it's Vlad.
  7. The perfect hitter for this lineup. As I posted in the King Carl thread Reed has yet to strikeout and is currently posting an OPS that only Frank can beat. The way Reed is hitting he would be perfect for any lineup, but my point is that the Sox needed a high average hitter who doesn't strikeout much.
  8. We have the best nerds in the country! Funny that they even mention GBN because we aren't allowed to play cards at all because of the obvious gambling. They don't even let us play online during our free time. I swear this school is nuts. But anyway... I don't bluff too much because, well, I suck at it. It seems to work pretty well. Just wait for your cards and then once every dozen hands you can buy a pot due to your tightness (a la Dan Harrington if you watch the WSOP).
  9. I believe SS2k4 is first on the list, knight 2nd, rowand you are 3rd on the list.
  10. I'd rather have 5 keepers, but 6 is more than ok. That's just me complaining because no 6 guys stand out. I wish I had known that this was going to be a keeper league, I wouldn't have dealt Delgado. I say we should name our keepers after the season, but have the ability to switch keepers.
  11. He was terrible. He was decent at best, but any idiot could tell his rookie year was a fluke. And to think a slap hitter like him was a top prospect through the minors. :puke
  12. Willie didn't deserve to play with Uribe and Valentin in front of him. That's not mishandling players, that's winning games. This is the Majors Jason, it's not about letting prospects get at bats. Willie was going through a terrible stretch and probably couldn't hit A ball his confidence and swing was so bad. Sorry to sound like a hardass Jason, but I strongly disagreed with what you said.
  13. The plan is coming together. Our '05 OF is coming together. After the travesty that was the Garcia deal we needed to keep Everett in town. Our OF next year looks like Rowand and Everett for sure. I see Lee possibly getting dealt leaving Borchard and Escobar to split time if the Sox don't go out and pickup somebody. BTW Jeremy Reed is 11-26 (.423) with an on-base of .464, slugging at .500, and an OPS of .964. The only guy on the Sox with a better OPS: Frank Thomas. Granted, it's early. However, I'm not encouraged from the Sox' end. Oh and Reed is yet to strike out. He is PERFECT for this team... :rolly
  14. I know. A combined 2-7 in the playoffs for White Sox affiliates. They start young...
  15. I was 5th. If I hadn't had so many injuries to my pitching staff I wouldn't have been so far down the list. It comes as no surprise to me that, when healthy, my team is in the finals. You saw the desperate trade I made with you to land Eric Milton of all people. From Delgado to Chavez (thank you very much Damaso Marte ) and even Hunter and Stewart my hitters took blows in the 1st half. Oh, let's not forget Larry Walker who has been studly since getting healthy. Thankfully, I had enough OF depth to replace Hunter and Stewart, Burroughs was decent at 3rd other than his lack of power compared to Chavez, and my pitching carried me. Then late in the season my pitching injuries hurt (Millwood, Hudson, Sabathia, Pettitte throughout the year). Radke has been my rock and Carpenter was a great pickup, but even now I'm starting Weaver and Milton.
  16. He went 1-8 with an RBI and a run in the playoffs.
  17. Can you tell how someone is knew to baseball? Does that mean they know a lot about the sport and have a lot of experience. Oh wait, is it now or know.
  18. Heh. I thought posting the whole story was overkill myself. I think BA would be less pissed if we just stuck to posting Sox stuff instead of copying and pasting whole subscriber content articles.
  19. Oh God, he hasn't played a game yet for KU and he is last week's news. :rolly
  20. That is unless you have a certain bet on the number of White Sox wins vs. Cubs wins.
  21. Liotta seems like a possible breakout pitcher if he can develop a changeup.
  22. Don't put too much stock in that. The Aussie team, like other Olympic teams, had a lot of AA and AAA guys. I was surprised he even made the team from high A.
  23. He sounds like a better control, smarter Felix Diaz. I don't mean to compare stuff, but just that BMac throws a ton of strikes. He did give up quite a few HRs at Kanny this year. I'm guessing it won't take him too long to adjust through the levels because he is a very smart pitcher from all accounts.
  24. In the weekly league it's Jason vs. my team. Go my team! We should have a winner's league next season. The 10 finalists get in. Thoughts?
