Article about Mariotti from Chicago mag

Jay is an incredibly talented writer who has every right to voice his opinion. But what troubles me and why I dislike him is his hypocrisy. Plain and simple. To me you cannot be taken seriously or be trusted as a newspaper man if you are a hypocrite. It's a trait he exposes quite often. Plus, he cannot compare himself to Roger Ebert. Ebert does meet with producers, actors, directors all the time. He goes to film festivals and, most importantly, he LOVES movies. Jay has a true hatred for the sports he covers. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 08:47 AM) Someone want to tell me again how Joe Crede won't get something in the area of 5 years $50 million on the open market? Um... Because Derek Jeter doesn't like him? The Neifi factor? The Tribune company won't acknowledge it? The Playoffs/WBC tired him out? Rob Mackowiak is playing CF? He ran out of gas. He had a flat tire. He didn't have enough money for cab fare. His tux didn't come back from the cleaners. An old friend came in from out of town. Someone stole his car. There was an earthquake. A terrible flood. Locusts. IT WASN'T HIS FAULT, I SWEAR TO GOD!

Sox "Tired" excused from last yr's postseason
RibbieRubarb replied to Allsox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Allsox @ Sep 29, 2006 -> 10:18 AM) All yr long, we've read and heard in papers and talk shows that the Sox are "tired" still from playing an extra month last yr. Well, the NL Champion Houston Astros (Who played more games in Oct than the Sox did) have won 9 consecutive games and are 1/2 game back of Division leader St. Louis. Granted, they're playing in the NL, which is barely a step-up from Triple A but funny how I haven't heard a word from them about being tired from last yr's playoffs to make the run they're on right now If the White Sox were in the NL Central we would have had a clinching party by now. Your argument is flawed. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 08:06 AM) Another fun one was Franks return to Chicago with his two HRs and it still not being enough after Macowiak's 9th inning HR to tie it, and the rally in the 10th... all conviently for our patio party. That's one of my favorite memories, also!!

QUOTE(SinkingShip06 @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 11:28 PM) it's finally over. this team gave up after the all star break. i'm glad the final mathematical bulls*** is done. f*** THE SOX. they're gonna have to prove something to me next year as i have to predict them to finish 4th behind the indians... Don't worry...You can go back to whatever baseball team you rooted for prior to fall 2005, now.

I will always be amazed by the names and avatar "fans" use on this site... But, I agree with you Mike. Give this team a chance to rest and heal. Then we come back with a vengence.

No LIE....I blacked out after the AJ home run I can laugh now, but it was scary. We were sitting in 107. I had thoughts of the Dodgers game runnign through my head. I turned to my brother and mentioned that AJ is going to do it again. The BAM. There it goes!!! I jumped up(as did everyone else) into th aisle and jumped up and down screaming as the ball sailed into the stands. Then the next thing I see is the back of the chair infront of me as my wife and friends are asking me if I'm OK. The fireworks were still going off and as I sat I saw the celebration forming as AJ rounded the bases. So this lasted but a second. I felt fine and was completly aware. But MAN what this team does to me...LOL So anyway the Doctor I saw afterwards explained it was a Vasovagal syncope caused by sitting for a long time and jumping up too quickly(i'm sure the beers helped, too). Most people would get light-headed, but you can pass out for a brief second too. I'm fine. But it was weird. My advice...If AJ has the chance to win a game...stand-up slowly before he swings. Aj makes me swoon, I guess.

QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) And just where did I make a judgement? And where did I say what he could and couldn't do? I mean seriously. Come on and give me some s*** about things I actually do say and not some half brained bulls*** from the imagionary voices. GMAFB.. accusing ME of passing judgement on someone who's family member was murdered. You obviously have me confused with Nuke. Steff just make love...not judgements. -
Our team is undefeated with Sweeney in the Lead-off spot. So, yeah, keep that line-up for good.

QUOTE(Steff @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 07:42 AM) http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060907/ap_en_tv/hilton_arrest LOS ANGELES - Paris Hilton was arrested early Thursday for investigation of driving under the influence, police said. Hilton was arrested shortly before 12:30 a.m. after being pulled over in Hollywood, said police Officer I. Isabella, who declined to give his first name. Police stopped Hilton because she was "driving erratically," he said. "The officers observed that Hilton exhibited the symptoms of intoxication. A field sobriety test was conducted at scene, and the officers determined she was driving under the influence," Isabella said, reading a police statement. Hilton was booked on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and released, he said. Her spokesman, Elliot Mintz, confirmed the arrest and said police detected the minimum blood-alcohol level to warrant an arrest. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent. "She's absolutely fine," Mintz said. "She didn't appear in the least bit to be intoxicated." At the time of her arrest, Hilton was driving home in her Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren from a charity event where she had one drink, a margarita, he said. She had spent the day shooting a music video for her new album, "Paris." The driving under the influence symptoms were "probably the result of an empty stomach and working all day and being fatigued," Mintz said. She was picked up from the Los Angeles Police Department's Hollywood station by her sister, Nicky, Nicky's boyfriend, actor Kevin Connolly, and Mintz. In June, Hilton had a fender-bender accident when her Range Rover backed into a car in a parking garage after a shopping trip. How far has Elliot Mintz fallen...From John Lennon to Paris Hilton. I guess the money is good!
