  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 12:58 PM) Basically just right there it looks like you're talking about 5+ different free agent signings led by a top of the rotation starter. Do you see why this is getting really rough? That's actually not out of the realm of possibility. In the 2004 offseason leading to 2005 - we brought in 8 new players via trades and free agency... if my memory serves me correct. Hanh's real opportunity to shine begins this off season and I've got faith that it's going to be a huge time for our franchise.
  2. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 27, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) For the record, I was all for that deal. ABSOLUTELY
  3. Poor Gordy, yet again another night on the bench. He must be experiencing quite a few humbling moments... Which is likely what he needs. Maybe he'll get hit by a car on the way home, the bum. Green people... Green.
  4. Combine all three of the options that currently have the only votes and you've got your answer.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) He took the only walk in that game. IIRC Mark then picked him off. Ah - the bastard. Another reason to hate him and wish him dead... Since I'm obviously that type of guy... Always ABSOLUETLY HATING AND DESTROYING anyone who's no longer on the Sox. So evil... Soooooo sooo evil!
  6. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) My dad has always written who he attended the game with, and the final score. But I decided on the "memorable moments" idea instead. I'm very glad I did that. In fact let me go grab a few and type them out...... - Kris Versteeg 100th career goal - Brett Favre's "Last" game (this is December 31st, 2006, his first of about 3 "last" games) - Jordan Danks first major league start - Hector Santiago major league debut, 1 IP, 1 K - Aaron Poreda's first major league win - Jon Garland, CG 4-hitter And here is the one I was looking for..... - Gordon Beckham's first major league hit PS: One of my tickets I can't read the back of, because it's currently framed in between a picture of me at the game, and Sammy Sosa standing on first base. The game was Mark Buehrle's no hitter. Sammy Sosa standing on first base?
  7. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 04:44 PM) I think I was at Beckham's first major league hit? I write on the back of all my game tickets if something memorable happens, so I'll have to check that. That's a really cool tradition Will have to adopt it when I start taking my son to games. Thumbs up man.
  8. QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 02:27 PM) I watched him in his first spring training he was outstanding. I wonder how he slipped to expendable from the guaranteed starter. Same experience here - he was exciting to see live then
  9. One of many bullseyes from the marksman....
  10. Expectation is the mother of resentment - it's a cliche for a reason
  11. Por little Gordey didn't play yesterday... Wahhhh! I do hope he turns it around but there is a sadistic part of me that desperately wants to see him never reach base again.
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 06:40 PM) Do not expect Bruce to know any Sox prospects, he knows and cares only about the Cubs. You're telling me that his name is Rodon? I thought it was Carlos Poopon!
  13. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 03:21 PM) hi8is -- I just don't see how a couple starts in September in MLB in any shape or form prepares him better to contribute at the MLB level in '15 then another couple in AAA and then the AFL. He isn't going to be "working on his changeup" when he's got the bases loaded and is tied 3-3 at pitch number 80 in the 5th inning with two outs -- he's gonna be rearing back and throwing 95 or throwing that slide piece. While those might get hitters out short term long term we all know the key will be the changeup and developing command on his fastball -- things he'd improve more quickly on in the non win at all costs environment of the minors. That's just my opinion I certainly respect the job Cooper and the Sox do developing starters. What you can't get in AAA or the AFL is an experience pitching in The Show. Gets him an opportunity to face some butterflies and come into '15 "experienced". Either way, bet your ass this offseason and next spring he'll be working the change and on control.
  14. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 03:05 PM) I don't really get the rush to get him up to MLB. Clearly he is highly advanced and his stuff is MLB ready now but I really don't think it's in Rodon's (and Chicago's) best long term interests to come up, make a couple 5-6 inning starts and start the arb clock a year early when he could have just made a few more starts in AAA and then head to the AFL with a big fat ZERO next to MLB service time entering '15. From another thread..... Another perspective not yet voiced is this: The Sox and Hanh believe they are in position to contend for 2015 and believe Rodon can be a huge piece in moving towards contention. With a cup of coffee this year, he can wet his beak and be all the more preped for better contributions next season. When you think about it - this process is actually a distinct possibility. Sign a number 2 type RHSP, tighten up the outfield, grab a new DH, and put together a nice pen... You've got yourself a playoff team ladies and gentlemen. One that could even go all the way should the baseball Gods decide it to be so. The thought of Sale, Shields, Qunitana, Rodon, and Noesi/Johnson/Danks makes me very very happy. An outfield of Garcia / Eaton / X would be groovy, health permitting. Abreu ( believe it or not ) STILL can improve. I believe we can count on a boost from second base WAR with Beckham out next year. Alexi seems to be returning to his 08/10 levels. Gillaspie is highly underrated and could become an affordable fixture. Flowers may indeed have a spot on a playoff team and I'm not counting out an upgrade at catcher during the winter. With Dunn gone finally we sure can expect to see an improvement there as well. Hell, even Paulie going off to his 16,000 square foot oasis in the desert improves our bench. Give me a bullpen and 2015 looks rosie enough for us take a MAJOR stride forward....
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) The Sox better lose a lot more to get a "guaranteed" good pick. Tank!! Tank!!!!! Tank!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. 0 for 7 with 9 runners left on base and 2 strike outs since joining LA.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 12:47 AM) If it were anyone other than hi8is I would be confused as to what is going on. That is always a goal. Gotta always keep the n00bz on their toes, yo!
  18. One day I was sitting in the scouts seating section at the cell, taking pictures three hours before game time during the Sox BP... Literally no one else was in the park yet... I snapped a shot of Beckam looking right at me. You could see one thing in his eyes... And only one thing. It was pouring out of him... Fear.

  22. Rodon shot 8 bullseye marks today in the palace archery contest. He only didn't hit the target once and was said to be in major leauge ready form.

I'm so glad we sucked so much **** last year... And hope we tank again more and more this year. High positions in the draft are so underrated. Mix in some good trades, free agent signings, and a couple years of high drafting... We're back to it like never before and quick. Good job Hanh and company. We're heading in the right direction.
  24. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) So far I only hear crickets. I'm just so glad that we never have to hear his god awful walk up music again.
  25. QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) with you, should I expect anything less. I'll set em up - you knock em down! Even if me = em.
