What Congress Bought Itself With Your $1 Billion

eh, not to be a dick, but I'm not really sure why I bothered posting in this thread because I don't really feel like doing this right now. -
What Congress Bought Itself With Your $1 Billion

Um no. Aren't you a mathematician? Come on now, that's a silly ass question. Revenue is about 2 trillion (lower than normal b/c of the recession). What percentage of that is $600k? -
Does anybody here like Nicki Minaj (for her actual rapping ability, not her Barbiedoll body)? I know she is annoying to a lot of people but about 10 days ago she started growing on me.

They are going to have a lot less time to read bills if you cut a bunch of their staffers. Just saying. -
A Rays fan asked me if I'd trade Rios straight up for Crawford right now. I said yes (assuming we'd have Crawford past the end of his current contract) but after I looked to see their OBP and SLG were virtually identical and now I don't think the answer is really that easy. Crawford is probably a better fielder than Rios is, and Crawford is better on the basepaths (I don't know why Rios has so many CS's this year) but they seem to basically be the same hitter right now.

It's ironic that people don't seem to know what an elite closer looks like since Bobby used to actually be one.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) speaking as someone who also does this, and who recently saw a 1 year fight to get my brothers wife her green card resolved in 1 month after contacting Senator Durbin, I disagree. I also had a positive experience getting what I wanted out of Sen. Durbin's office. And in like 2 days. Anyway I was kind of underwhelmed by this list. A lot of those thing I have no problem at all with them spending money on. Ok bottled water, sure (but $600k is like having a nickel fall out of your pocket). -
QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) Reed Smith Partner Commits Suicide in Chicago I have a friend that worked closely with this guy. Well adjusted...very much a family man and seemed perfectly fine. I guess he has had some anxiety recently and they gave him some meds...Paxil??. I have no idea if that contributed, but it sure sounds like it. This dude never takes the train. Always drives to work. Drove that day. For whatever reason left around lunch time...didn't take his BB or his wallet. Walked over to the washington station bought a ticket..went downstairs and jumped in front of a train. If he left his bb and stuff in his office, I'm assuming he knew what he was going to do when he left. Crazy s***. I've heard of anxiety/depression meds making people suicidal. Which kind of sounds like an epic fail actually but I guess it really happens.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 08:57 AM) I laughed when I read this, then I said, "Wait, he's right!" Obviously losing a baseball game and beating a spouse are VERY different, but your point is true. He has one job, and as good as he's been sometimes, he's been just as bad...maybe even worse. I see defenses of Bobby out there saying if he gets the three outs it doesn't matter how he does it. I disagree. A closer has to be very good at their job, and having said closer come into a game should make the manager, team, and fans feel confident that he will get the job done. Bobby has lost the confidence of his manager and the fans for sure. I know that was probably a really crass analogy to make but all my other attempts to make the same point have failed. If Bobby can get three outs occasionally that's not really very high praise on its own, it makes him the same as about 95% of other major league pitchers.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 08:37 AM) This isn't the same Bobby from 05'. Quit living in the past... the man just isn't a good closer anymore. Or '06. Or '07. Or '08. I defended him when he had the occasional sloppy outing then. This has been long enough to be a pattern though. Is he overall a bad pitcher? No. Is he an elite closer worth the money he'll cost if we keep him? Hell no.

DFA is an overreaction IMO. That it's time for a new closer in 2011 is kind of a foregone conclusion to me though.

"You guys keep saying he's a bad husband but really let's look at this objectively, he only beats his wife like once a week and the rest of the time he treats her like a queen! Every marriage has ups and downs."

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 01:42 AM) I'm not talking about the Wilson play. He generally is not a good fielder. I see you didn't comment on his inability to hold runners on base LIKE LAST NIGHT. The next time you see Jenks throw over to first to keep a runner close WILL BE THE FIRST TIME. Some of you Sox fans are just as delusional as the management. Ugh I hate it when people make posts with this tone. "I know everything, the rest of you are stupid" without actually saying it.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) I KNOW you can do better than that, on all sides. I have thoughts on conservative media, the narrative of conspiracy and liberal bias and why the influence of conservative media makes it irrelevant in reality, and how certain stories get emphasized or de-emphasized but I figure the Republican Thread isn't really the place to do that.

The $100 million comes from zakat, the obligation Muslims have to donate a percentage of their income. That money goes to mosques and charitable foundations and what have you. Sometimes it goes to fund jihad though and this is really hard to track or figure out where exactly the line is being crossed which is why it's so hard to stop terrorist financing (greatly simplified version but you get the picture).

Kinda like how the media basically accepted Eric Cantor's lying ass story about being shot at at face value.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 05:38 PM) I would hope not, that's the best part. What kind of stripper are we talking about here? Dirty girl from the middle-of-nowhere strip joint, or lame city gotta-wear-pasties strip joint? Middle of nowhere, where you can find a girl with bullet holes, cigarette burns, and stab wounds. This one wasn't that attractive in the face but she had a sweet body. The one with HIV was cute. My favorite one was smoking hot but she was a lesbian (still Facebook friended me anyway, lol). The whole situation caught me off guard. Granted, strippers are friendly and flirt with you but I never had one actually come for me like that. I was nice to her. lol.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 05:34 PM) And does she stop looking like a stripper then too? She does. I made a comment to her "this is my first time seeing you actually wear a bra."

Some of you guys are arguing stuff defending Bobby against that was never even being said about him, reflexively I guess. And greg is being greg. All I originally said was you can't say Bobby's had "one bad outing" like April and May just didn't happen. I said nothing about Bobby being fat, or needing to be replaced (the OP did and then backed off of it), or needing to be traded, or being a terrible closer, or whatever other projections people want to make. I even said words to the effect that Bobby hit a certain point where he's been awesome and while I didn't come right out and say it, I'm willing to accept this outing as an isolated incident because I think his pitching is night and day. Still, he's probably had more stretches of being bad than stretches of being great this year, you can gloss over this or obfuscate it as much as you want but you can't change the fact that it's true, or at least close to true (since I didn't go qualifying that statement with stats). Oh and when your numbers are as bad as Bobby's were earlier in the year and you still only blow one save there is a word for that: "Luck."

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 05:10 PM) I'm listening..... It's not really as funny typing it as if I was narrating it. The short version is that I was out with this group of guys, one of them wanted to f*** this Filipina waitress so me, so I played point guard for him and hooked them up, because I broke the touch barrier on her for him. In the process I caught the attention of one stripper in particular (the one who did not have HIV) who gave me her # and stopped just short of bringing me home with her (incidentally, doing this way too many times is how Stripper 2 ended up getting HIV). I didn't do anything with Stripper 1 for the record. But she was trying to get me to buy her dinner and drinks and stuff when we went out which was funny. I was like no sweetheart, the wallet-draining act ends when you leave your job, and I treat you like a regular girl.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Oh, you never know where the mouth of a stripper has been. Did you have the number for Stripper # 1, by the way? well yes but you have to go to Louisiana for that. lol.
-
This video brings the funny. I think everyone knows somebody like this.

This past weekend I went out with a stripper (ok, you're probably thinking WTF there must be a long story involved - the answer is yes, there is) and she introduces me to a friend at the bar, also a stripper but both dressed normally since they weren't at work. Stripper #2 is really friendly. Stripper #1 leans over to me and says "yeah, she is really cool and a sweetheart, but don't drink anything after her." lol. Don't gotta tell me twice. She texts me at the table and says rumor has it she has HIV. I know you can't really get HIV from drinking out of the same cup as someone (at least I'm pretty sure that's how I remember), but still... yeesh.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) Sorry...I just know money was wasted..and it made me think of this. I figured most would agree that the failed campaign was a misuse of funds, but per the usual...NOT. Someone can split all this off. Well it's pretty much the entire thread so I'll just change the topic name and if necessary split the other one off into another thread to re-start it if that's what we want to do.
