THE Chicago White Sox vs Texas Rangers
lostfan replied to witesoxfan's topic in 2009 Season in Review
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 3, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) Many people believe in that... Morgan is worse for much different reasons. At least he played the game at a high level, which is more than what a lot of other announcers can say. Joe Morgan might be the worst commentator in all of sports. -

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 3, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) Steve Phillips is unlistenable. Morgan is alright. No, he's not. ESPN's crew is brutal. -

lol Joe Morgan talking about how he likes DeWayne Wise - AFTER THEY JUST SHOWED CHRIS GETZ'S .347 BATTING AVERAGE IN THE LEADOFF SPOT -
I'm taking Wite's side here - it's not that he's saying Nolan Ryan doesn't deserve to be in the conversation of all-time greats, and he certainly deserves to be in the Hall, but he isn't as good as his legacy makes him.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 3, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) you have 4 already and Obama will merely be replacing one of them. by the way, do you guys know whom named Souter to the court? it was G Bush I and it's often cited as a reason both parties now want to make sure their nominee is going to tow the party line. Sandra Day O'Connor gets cited for that a lot too, which I think is pretty unfair since she tried her best to see every case in a vaccuum and not an ideological lens.

Balta I'm not a molecular biologist or anything, but I think your guess is close enough.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 2, 2009 -> 11:18 PM) Everything's all touchy, feely, emotion. The constitution is not supposed to be a touchy, feely document. It is set up to govern our country, not tackle the emotional aspect of every goddamn problem that faces our country. It's a f***ing insult to sit there and say "8 men can't understand". Do you know how moronish that statement is? If there was a law broken for that poor girl, then let the law stand for itself, not the emotion of it. That's absolutely the problem with liberals and really pisses me off. Sure, I care. Sure I want justice. But not based on some emotional outlook. If we govern every issue based on emotion, it's no wonder there's the politicization there is, because you cannot fairly judge law that way. In a court setting, the lawyer's job is to make people understand the emotion behind it and the related legal arguments to those emotions, if you will. That includes "8 men" on the Surpreme Court. Their job is then to interpret the law, not their damn emotions behind the law. PERIOD. Everything else is a blatent disrespect of our Constitution. Well, don't take this the wrong way, but when I read your and other opinions regarding waterboarding or GTMO, it sounds like pure emotion sometimes (anger, vengeance). Whenever I say "that is an emotional opinion vs. a logical one," which I've said on this board several times, that's probably what I mean.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 2, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) Any one else feel good to see Rondo hit the floor hard on back to back plays? I smiled... then laughed wen he just laid there to milk it. lol I was about to post this... favorite moment of the game, by far. The NBA didn't have the balls to handle things so the players did, I love to see that. I'll actually give the refs props for this one, letting the Bulls handle their business.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2009 -> 08:13 PM) I still can't believe KW didn't take a chance on Andruw Jones. It's amazing how skinny he is now. I can, because he sucked horribly. -
QUOTE (hawkubes @ May 1, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Actually according to baseball-refence.com Dewayne Wise has been a plus defender throughout his career (including 2008), and Anderson has been about average according to their calculations. Wise's total fielding runs above avg. was 4.0 and Anderson's was -1.8 in 2008. In 5 years in the outfield, anderson is .5 runs above average, while Wise is 9.0 runs above average in his 6 seasons in the outfield. I know everybody's gonna jump all over this, but it's statistical analysis. I think Dewayne Wise is a lot better out there than people give him credit for. I actually voted for Terrero, and got to thinking that Wise really hasn't been that bad. I got curious and checked out the stats, of the ones I checked out, Wise and Erstad were the best according to those numbers. By the way, Swisher is atrocious (-14.8 last year) and Ryan Sweeney is also below average according to this analysis. Defensive stats aren't really as useful when you're not talking about nearly a full season's worth of innings.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) So lives are now worth a cost benefit analysis? Interesting change of liberal philosophy. lol, you can't be serious

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ May 1, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) Hell yes. This Bulls/Celtics series is that kind of thing where right after the game ends you go out with your friends who are still freaking out and high-5 random people you overhear talking about the same thing- which is pretty much everyone. My Facebook news feed was crazy last night, it's all anyone was talking about.

Yeah I don't really have any issues with Roberts.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ May 1, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) Will any nomination be referred to as a liberal jurist?......Or will they be centrists?.......I think I know the answer...... He could nominate a centrist and you (conservatives) would still call the nominee a liberal judicial activist.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 1, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) I always thought Luis Terrero played a damn good CF for us in '07. Darin Erstad is also missing. Erstad was never that bad defensively, I guess the memory of him losing that ball in the lights stuck with a lot of people. I'm surprised that so far people think Mackowiak was better than Swisher out there.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 1, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) Both MSNBC and FOX have people of dissenting views which appear on air; this still doesn't balance each networks' partisan political advocacy. MSNBC in the morning is totally different from prime-time MSNBC.
