See the part about the Coke, I made a post a couple of days ago in response to mocking about "giving up information over a nice cup of tea." Well...?

Why the hell do people keep saying Rose gets a free pass? No he doesn't. Posters on this board almost unanimously agree that he was brutal on defense this year. Just because it isn't said every other post doesn't mean nobody believes it.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 08:43 AM) i've been watching BA's at-bats closely since he's taken over the starting role, and one thing i've noticed (primarily) is he's not chasing the breaking balls away watch his at-bats yesterday against halladay, he was being busted inside over and over with that two-seam fastball, and then halladay would go off the plate away with what looked like a cutter or some type of breaking ball (maybe a slider), and BA would lay off of them in all of his at-bats, it looked as though he knew he was being set up by the pitcher, they were nice to see and unlike any other AB's i've seen him take as a sox player I was just impressed by the fact that he was holding it down against Roy f***ing Halladay. In the past he would've just folded and struck out 2-3 times.

I can't believe there was actually just an argument downplaying the importance of the line, be it defensive or offensive. Cornerbacks and linebackers are the equivalent of skill position on offense. Without a line, usually they're basically worthless unless you're an obvious exception to the rule like Champ Bailey - and oh by the way, Denver still had an atrocious defense last year.

I think some of you guys are getting a little ahead of yourselves, it's not time to declare Brian anything just yet, it's still several more weeks before we can really evaluate his progress. I understand why his supporters would be excited. Ozzie's perceived unpredictability aside, if Brian continues to play well for another few weeks, the job is his permanently.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 09:18 PM) So Guillen is trying to lose. That might be the most ignorant thing I have seen on here before, and that is saying something. I figured that was sarcasm...? I mean it's way over the top and doesn't fit anything else he posts.

That was an e-mail wasn't it? I'm not sure how accurate those numbers are, and I doubt if they are. At the same time, I wouldn't be surprised (especially concerning the House).

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 07:19 PM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=29087 As hot as he has been, Brian's OPS is at 835. That's very good, for sure, but if he held up this exact same level of play for the entire season, he'd still only be 16 points (835 to 819) higher than Denard Span (2008 rookie year) in terms of OPS. I said anything above 740 would be great, so while him keeping up 835 would be simply amazing and awe-inspiring, it wouldn't be All-Star caliber. Unless you think of Denard Span as an All-Star? Actually, this version of BA (the singles and occasional doubles hitter) is very similar to Span statistically. I would be happy to sacrifice the Torii Hunter offensive numbers (HR's and K's) if he would continue to this level of play, but I'm not sure that's possible. Probably what will happen is that his batting average will come down to 260-270, he'll hit a few more homers and become more pull happy (because of the Greg Walker influence) and end up with an OPS of around 700-750, which is still better than what I thought was possible. Anderson won't keep hitting for this high average, he never has at any level really. But if he keeps hitting for respectable contact, his SLG will go up. It's abnormally low right now.
-
I don't think it'll actually happen though, I think Ozzie is just being diplomatic. But BA shouldn't have to look over his shoulder if he goes 0 for 4 one night.
-
I can't believe some of you guys are taking this thread seriously.
-
If Anderson is playing like he is now if and when Wise comes back (obviously he won't be hitting .350, but getting good at-bats and putting up respectable offensive numbers), there is no reason at all whatsoever to even consider considering putting Wise back in the lineup. None. And yeah, Wise did not play good this year, or in spring training. He had a couple of good games to bring his average up to .238, and made one really nice catch that he unfortunately got hurt making.

WHAT THE f*** WAS THAT SALMONS?

Jesus what a terrible shot by Gordon.

QUOTE (earthshiner @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) wise certainly seems to have lost his starting spot. I think he has a spot over owens. If Nix replaces Owens on the roster then things will be interesting Lillibridge belongs in AAA, IMO, so that's who should lose their spot whenever Wise comes back (unless Lillibridge starts tearing it up).

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Tyrus noticed Rose, paused, then dribbled the ball to get fouled?! Wow. Yeah, that was a pretty dumb thing to do... pass the ball, get it in Rose's hands, let Rose get fouled.

God dammit, are you kidding me?

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) I wish I read this post before I voted. I don't understand the catch-all stuff for split parties. News is news. It's basically a gossip thread about the other party except everyone sees it. It's a way of filtering out posts that would otherwise be obnoxious/pointless to certain posters.

Blue Jays (13-6) @ White Sox (9-8) 1:05 pm CSNHD

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Whiff on the hit and run and BA is out. I don't think Lilli really has the plate coverage for a hit and run--he's so small. Hit and run works beautifully with Getz, Lillibridge not so much. -
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) I forget at which one, but Knox ran a 4.29 at either the combine or his pro day. This is good. I feel like Iglesias can contribute right away, but by getting a minor project like Knox, he'll be ready in 1-2 years. Marcus Freeman with our second 5th. Good value there. Got a fast guy and a guy with good hands.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) True, it's asking an AWFUL lot to stay around .320, heck I'd be pumped if he hit .300 and I'd take .270. I'm not one of the die hard Anderson supporters, I just want whoever's playing the best to be out there and right now Anderson is the best. Not that if he stayed over .300 that I'd hate it or anything. -

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 26, 2009 -> 01:49 PM) Well, his average is going to go down because those aren't going to keep falling in. I think he can stick around .270, though. If he keeps making contact and stays comfortable up there, he'll start hitting more line drives and hitting the gaps. He's done it before, he just never could put it all together. -
QUOTE (tommy @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) I didn't see the game... Was the 3-2 pitch that Alexei took out of the park a breaking pitch? What did Steve Stone say right before Alexei hit a grand slam? Gameday says it was a slider.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 25, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) Is their anyone other then Pujols, that you'd rather have batting with the bases juiced then Alexei? Isn't it awesome for this team that this is a serious question? Alexei in 2008 with the bases juiced - .471 avg 1.176 slg 1.576 OPS. f***ing silly. For s***s and giggles Pujols last year was .375, 1.000, 1.364.

Unless Owens does something, he'll probably be sent back down and Wise comes back.

Brutal at-bat from Fields there.
