QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 10:03 PM) side note: I had knee surgery this morning to repair a broken patella I got playing softball last week. The boss just sent me a gift box with a card that said, "Ease his pain..." In the box are DVD's of FIELD OF DREAMS, THE NATURAL, EIGHT MEN OUT, THE ROOKIE, LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN and the complete box set of the 2005 world series. I don't have the heart to tell him that i have that box set already, so if anyone would like it, send me a message and i'll ship it to you. Your boss is pretty bad ass.

Ahhhhhhhhh Rose is helpless on defense

rofl at the commentators: "what is he (Gordon) doing?" (admittedly I'm thinking the same) (Gordon hits ridiculous shot) OOOOOHHHHHH!

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 09:38 PM) if he was a nobody, i would assume we could scrape together a few runs. The higher the ERA, the less likely we are to hit the pitcher. The Sox are weird like that.

WOW, ARE YOU f***ING KIDDING ME? that has to be the worst call I've seen all season.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) we're not scoring on this guy tonight You say that almost like he's a nobody.

Well, she did the crazyassed rant, then her opponent had a surge, but she kept relatively quiet until the election and gave a half-assed apology for being misquoted (even though her comments were aired in their entirety, live). Then after the election she went completely apes***.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 09:00 PM) yea, she's absolutely ape-s*** crazy. She wont get re-elected. She just did though.

LOL at Anderson leading off.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) You can't have Brent Lillibridge within 500 miles of any major league team. Well you can if he has a ticket to a game. -

He's trying to argue the call, but he very clearly dropped it. It never even got to his glove. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) There's been different mentions in the media leading up to this series about how no one knew what to expect with him in the clubhouse. Even when the trade was made, there was some worries he might not fit in with the team. Maybe it's because I am a big Griffey fanboy and I've had a huge mancrush on him since I was like 12, but I never heard anything about him being bad in the clubhouse. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 06:49 PM) I've always been confused at how people thought Griffey Jr. was going to be a clubhouse cancer with the Sox? It's like people are surprised he was a good clubhouse guy. When he was in Cincinnati, every one of their young outfielders said how amazing Griffey Jr. was with them. Who said that? I never heard anything like that. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) That sure didn't change Democrats opinion of the budget after 9-11. For some reason after a major Democratic recession and a terror attack on US soil we weren't supposed to be running deficits, because they sure as heck have used that as a major talking point ever since then. I take it things are different now? Major? That was like a case of the sniffles.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Most True Republicansare happy to see this RINO gone. He represents what's wrong with the GOP in their minds. What's a "True Republican"? Does anyone know anymore?
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 01:51 PM) running an annual 2 trillion dollar defict is done by people whom not only do not realize how to run a solid business, but lack common sense in general. this is a shot at the GOP as well, they f***ed up bad. a lot of this debt goes back to GW bank bailouts he rushed through. It was before that, all of the defense and war spending that they pretended wasn't a part of the budget along with some pretty pointless tax cuts (those are fine when needed, and when you have a decrease in spending to justify it). It's more than one thing.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) Certain things in the budget should be there. The loss of these two programs will hurt several major defense contractors. Mostly, these programs should not have been cut. (Technically they arent but they're on the chopping block). And the thing is, the presidential helicopter program was fine until Obama opened his mouth with some ignorant comment after fielding a question from a reporter. I, for one, have not actually ever complained here about the propsed budget, and I also will always support strong defense spending. The F-22 cut is fine because they are upping another jet (I forget which one). They are strongly supporting the new JLTV. The CSAR-X could go either way with me. The Pres helicopter I dont feel should have been cut (especially since they are so far along with it already...there's money down the drain!) The main issue with this, is we have them preaching about job creation and all that and these program cuts are going to directly lead to job loss. And these are often high paying techincal jobs too that are good for local economies. Also, it just feels these cuts were reactionary due to an unjustified outrage by those in the media and reporters, from both sides. You're talking about the F-35 I think. The question wasn't F-22 or no F-22, it was stop at the amount we have or make more. Defense spending at its current pace is/was sustainable. It's such a massive part of the budget that it's ridiculous, and also just spending doesn't guarantee superiority (I won't go into too much detail here). I keep talking about this though. Everybody wants to cut the budget but nobody actually wants to start anywhere. The federal budget looks something like this: This is why presidential candidates always talk about scrubbing the budget but it never actually happens. It's not as easy as it looks, even if you factor out the costs of all the bailouts. The deficit is a structural thing, it's not something Obama can just snap his fingers and will away.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) I think it's laughable that you try and claim you are an independent. Specter often votes with the Dems anyways. As Balta said, he would have been destroyed in the GOP primary and this was his only chance to win re-election. He would fare better in a general. Despite anything he says, this is all about him and what is best for him. He's not going to be firmly in the Dem camp on all issues, but I think it also has to do with the fact that the GOP right now is a train wreck (I think it was you that I was talking about this with a few days ago).
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) Immediate reactions: 1. It's going to be a long, long, long time before Minnesota ever seats its 2nd Senator now. The MN Supreme Court doesn't hear the challenge until June 1, and after that fails, Coleman will undoubtedly launch a challenge in Federal Court, while the governor of MN will now continue to deny his certification signature until he is compelled to do so by a court. It could be 2010 before he's seated. It's really retarded and hypocritical that they would want to go to the Feds with this, but I get that politics isn't about principles, it's about reality and how much you can get.

QUOTE (Cknolls @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) Somehow this did not make the news cycle in the conservative Chicago Tribune today. I just saw breaking news that Sen. Specter is switching from the GOP to the Dems.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Lockheed Owego, where they are building the avionics system for the Presidential helicopter and working on the CSAR-X program announced they will lay off 225 in mid-May. This is a direct result of the Gates recommendation to terminate those programs. It was also said that these were only the first wave of layoffs in the company before the fiscal year 2010, which begins in October. I don't follow - y'all complain about the budget, and justifiably so. But then when the administration (specifically Gates, probably the best qualified of anyone in either this or the previous administration) takes specific action with long-term goals in mind to reduce the budget - the fact that the Air Force already has F-22s notwithstanding - that's also bad. It doesn't add up, logically.
