  1. QUOTE (bmags @ May 6, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) Any mass publication's comments tend to be quite awful, and frankly, shouldn't have commenting. The more niche sites are where comments can be quite informative and actually helpful to the writers and readers. Yes. Agreed. On CNN, I might as well be reading comments on a Youtube video. Same with Fox, or any major media site.
  2. There is nothing more unfair than playing the "they drafted player A when player B could've been had." The Bears drafted Curtis Enis instead of Randy Moss. They drafted Cade McNown instead of Champ Bailey.
  3. Where is KW Jr. anyway? I can't find him on B-R.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 6, 2009 -> 12:41 PM) Thome has four home runs. John Buck has three. Didn't Jimmy also have a horrible at bat last night late with a runner on third. I was a little surprised the veteran didn't come through there or at least make contact. I'm a little surprised people get pissed off at length of posts or starting new threads. Isn't that why you are on here, to check out people's opinions? I thought that's what this was for. Weird. Example of a post I won't criticize: "Wow, Jim Thome had a pretty s***ty couple of games, maybe he needs a day of rest" Example of a post where I will laugh at you or openly question your intelligence/sanity: (after Thome strikes out) "Wow, the Sox need to DL Thome and send him to rehab in AAA, he's killing this team, we're screwed with him on the roster" Example of a post I won't criticize: "Gavin Floyd hasn't looked so good in his starts this year, I'm worried that he will regress a lot this year" Example of a post where I will laugh at you or openly question your intelligence/sanity: (after seeing him in his first bad outing) "Gavin Floyd will be terrible this year, thanks KW, this team will finish under .500 now!" Oh yeah, and starting a thread about the same thing over and over for weeks (I won't mention names or subjects).
  5. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 6, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) Avoid those threads. I do (I was ignoring this one at first and only read "KW should be embarrassed" for comic relief), but there's usually 4 or 5 of them at any given time.
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 6, 2009 -> 11:27 AM) So would it make soxtalk a more enjoyable site if it was a complete circle jerk for all things White Sox? Personally I think the level of discourse is enhanced by having a diverse range of opinions. It would be nice if I didn't have to see threads after every game where, for example, Paul Konerko goes 0-4 with 2 K's and a GIDP and a poster starts up a thread calling for him to be taken out back and shot.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 6, 2009 -> 06:22 AM) Guys like Spector and Lieberman are why we need a real third party in this country. Both parties far wings are proving to go crazy when they get in office, and there is no middle ground to pull them back to. Its either far right, or far left. I really want my out of my bedroom, AND out of my wallet party to come alive one day... I think then we would see some actually progress and compromise in this country. I used to think that, but after thinking about how European democracies run I came to the conclusion that I don't like that idea. I don't think it's so much the fact that we don't have enough parties, it's more of 1) the fact that the two parties work so poorly together and are always attacking each other and 2) the party(ies) don't necessarily represent or at least try to represent the views of enough Americans (this applies moreso the Republicans than the Democrats in recent years). I honestly think we'd be better off if the right was able to step up its game and present a legit challenge to the left.
  8. Nobody wants that, but seriously, there is a line between being a realist, and tying a rope around your neck every night. It really gets old, and it gets hard to scroll past what I don't want to read because everybody is panicking at once.
  9. I'm not a fan of hers, and I'm definitely not part of the anti-gay marriage crowd, but I'm getting sick of seeing Carrie Prejean get ripped (mostly on the net) for speaking her mind, however awkwardly. It's really unnecessary, and it's kind of embarrassing - much more so than watching her speak.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 6, 2009 -> 05:56 AM) I'm sort of torn. On the one hand, I hate seeing either party make people toe the company line all the damn time. Guys like Specter that are relative moderates get screwed either way. On the other hand though, if you switch parties, maybe not such a good idea within like 5 days to basically take every opportunity to slam that party. The Coleman statements particularly are just bizarre. I suspect that Specter may not get re-elected in any case. Liberals hate Lieberman but at least he's sort of almost kind of a Democrat, whereas Specter's going to make the Blue Dogs look like Bernie Sanders. When I first heard about this I got excited because I thought it might actually mean something politically, like maybe accelerating the demise of the GOP so that conservatives can build a meaningful coalition again (still a chance that could happen), but it's not going to mean anything to the Democratic agenda. Maybe he should just run as an independent.
  11. Answer to thread title: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=71336
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ May 6, 2009 -> 12:39 AM) Can he pitch? Ha, beat me to it.
  13. lol, it's now really obvious that this was nothing but a pure gimmick and had nothing to do with principle. It's much more a slap to the face of the GOP than it actually is anything useful to the Democrats. At all.
  14. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 6, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) Games like these aren't worth much discussion. It's more appropriate to pick something up and throw it - that is unless you're Lance Broadway, and you happen to pick up a baseball.
  15. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ May 5, 2009 -> 07:19 PM) Pods offense has never really been an issue it is the defense. With the power in the line-up already. Pods at DH makes sense to me. He seems to be more aggresive than when he left. His defense and the fact that his legs are made of whatever Mike Brown's legs are made of.
  16. I was just watching highlights from what I missed, which are of the KC announcers, and I have to reiterate that they are easily the most boring announcers in all of baseball.
  17. How is that justice anyway - Franken won fair and square.
  18. Sigh... more Favre bulls*** http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4142857
  19. That's probably like 10 minutes from my house.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 5, 2009 -> 11:28 AM) I was thinking about it and pretty much most of the hitters I idealize in the MLB as hitters have very unique and almost uncopyable quirks. Pujols for example. I wouldnt tell a hitter to hold the bat like him, and swing just like him, but watch how he attacks pitchers, watch his god-like balance and how flat his bat is in thezone. I wouldn't encourage anyone to copy Ichiro's stance/swing... ever
  21. Of all the people that need defending from attacks from the left, Michele Bachmann is not one of them.
  22. Every month or so I see a story like this with some teenager sending an ungodly amount of texts: http://www.kcra.com/cnn-news/19369840/detail.html I thought I sent a lot of texts (probably over 2000 a month) but that's pretty absurd, just something I can't comprehend. If I really have that much to say, I just call.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 5, 2009 -> 07:52 AM) Getz missed how much time? Fields has missed 1 game because of injury. Dye two games. Thome and Anderson are a couple of the most useless players to wear White Sox uniforms according to the consensus of this site. Anderson and Thome are pretty polarizing figures.
