  1. We already have a speedy lefty hitting CF and a speedy lefty hitting 2b (richar) if we're going to make a move for a bench player we need someone who can mash lefties to face the sabathias, kenny rogers, and santana's that we face multiple times a year in the central
  2. just a little info on santo from milb.com
  3. I don't see any reason why he can't have a great spring training and make the team as our starting cf or at least in a platoon situation with owens. He is still young and still has great potential. we'll see what happens but it is great to hear that he's taking his body and his training serious, all the greats in every sport begin with taking their training/practice seriously, titles are won in the offseason imo
  4. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 08:54 PM) Anyway, my point is, here is this really awesome player on the Brewers who I've heard of. Do you think we can get him for Crede? Not a chance, the best we can do is a high upside prospect with some warts. But then again, if they were willing to trade capuano plus a top prospect for a perennially injured scott rolen then anything is possible
  5. Forget overpaying for Fuku, I like the idea of trading Paulie to the Angels. They've had a hard on for him for years now. I think that we could get at least one top prospect for him along the lines of Wood, Adenhart, Kendrick, etc... If they think that an aging Tori Hunter he's a career .271 with an ops of .793 hitter who just had his BEST season as a pro at the age of 32, he also plays a position that is hard on the body, he's more prone to injuries and wearing down more quickly than a 1B. We are not going to win this season, why fool ourselves into thinking that we're a player or two away from contending. Lets sell off our spare and aging parts and rebuild so we can win for years to come and not just be a mediocre team with an overpayed lineup.
  6. The more I think about it the more I think that we should keep Crede and hopefully let him build some value during the first half of next season. When he's healthy and playing well he's one of the top 10 third basemen in the MLB. Great defense and a good bat. If we trade him for Capuano or some mid level prospect it will come back to bite us in the ass, he's still pretty young and until his back injury last year he was getting better and better every season. He could bring us a real prospect at next season's trade deadline. We certainly don't risk him losing any value next year
  7. Anyone know if we're even eligible to take a rule five pick?? Is our forty man roster full right now or what. I read that if it's full then we're not allowed to pick in the draft
  8. I've been reading about the sox being a fit for fukudome since the trade deadline LAST season and nothing has taken place to change my mind on that. He'd be a perfect fit for us. All reports say that he's best as a corner outfielder but can fill in at CF if needed. He's got decent power (projects to 15-25 hr's per season), good speed and good obp. He'd be a good fit for us in the #2 spot in the lineup (with cabrera at leadoff) or maybe have him hit fifth or sixth depending on whether or not we get a good leadoff hitter (and move cabrera to his more natural #2 spot). In addition to his attributes, he also won't cost us a draft pick like rowand/jones, etc... and won't cost us prospects like bay or crisp. If we acquire an OF this offseason i really hope it's him also, i almost forgot, he wants only a 3 year deal so if he doesn't pan out then we aren't on the hook for a long term deal like with rowand jones or hunter.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 08:57 AM) When I look at our roster...if we could clear a spot on the 40 man to pick up a guy, I can certainly see us having room for a doubles hitting Right Handed OF with decent speed. It'd be an excellent guy to stick into a quasi-platoon with Owens and to give Dye/whoever else we get some extra rest. In 2006 this kid stole 39 bases between single and double A. That sounds an awful lot like the kind of guy we might want. exactly what i'm thinking. Who else on our roster is going to play in the OF, we've got owens, dye, and???? maybe fields if we keep crede, ozuna on the bench. No reason we can't make some room for him, if he doesn't work out then so be it, it is only a $50k investment and we can sell him back to the indians for $25k if we decide to drop him from the 40 man roster, this organization needs an infusion of talent so lets go for it and gamble a bit.
  10. This kid sounds great, at least worth a gamble. With the lack of MLB caliber players in our farm system I think that we should take a chance on some of these guys, for only 50k its worth the risk, Also, the top three guys on that list all play for AL central teams, it would be fantastic to steal a good player from the Twins/Indians/Tigers
  11. It's really no surprise that only one sox player has made this list so far, our farm system doesn't really get many props from the rest of baseball. I wouldn't be surprised to see DLS somewhere in the 15-20 range though, he's pretty nasty. I would've thought that Carter would've made the top 50 though
  12. I dont think that they'd do that trade for anything less that DLS, Gio and Fields. Seems too much to give up, sure we'd have a great rotation but we'd still be missing a CF, questionable 2B, weak bullpen, and we'd be relying on crede to be healthy for a full 162 coming off back surgery. In addition we'd have an aging 1b, RF, C, SS, 3B, DH and our farm system gutted of our top prospects. This would cripple the organization 2-3 years down the road and is simply too risky. All this in addition to Haren being an injury risk, as he's missed significant time the last several seasons. This trade screws us in the future, we are much closer to being in a position to gut the team and trade off our top players than we are in position to contend
  13. I hope that he's right about KW not giving up on Sweeny. I don't think that there's any reason to quit on him just yet, he's too young and talented. If he's still struggling in a couple of years thats fine but we need a LF and will soon need a RF, he's got good defense, a good arm and is developing at the plate, lets see what he can do in a full season
  14. I don't think that Massett Anderson or Sisco belong on the list because they're all AAA players. I'd replace them with Konerko, Fields and Buehrle. I think that Buerhle would be tough and scrappy, just like the way he pitches but my money overall would go on Fields, compact, quick and powerful, plus i think he's an Okie. He just edges out Buehrle Out of the players you have listed, I say big Bobby Jenks.
  15. With how low his trade value is right now we need to hope that he has a solid first half this coming season and then dump him on a pitching starved contender for prospects. Some contender is always willing to overpay for veteran pitching at the trade deadline. Especially a pitcher with world series experience. Maybe a young team with talent but little to no leadership (Arizona comes to mind) plus AZ has tons of talent in the minors, just a thought. I will be disappointed if he's still with the team at the end of next season though
  16. Bourgeois can play multiple positions. He has minor league experience at 3rd 2nd SS and all three outfield positions, he's the ideal utility player and i'd much rather see what he can do coming off the bench than spend money on Makowiack. He's been in the minors for a while now and was once a first round pick with high talent and ceiling. Maybe he can realize some of that potential with a full time stint in the majors. I'm not sure if he has the arm needed to play RF well but i'm sure he would be passable playing out there every now and then, his strongest assests are his contact hitting, speed and defensive flexibility
  17. I'd wait til after this season at the earliest to sign him to a long term deal. If he keeps his numbers at his career level this season then offer him a deal to buy out all his arbitration years plus an option for his first year of free agency. maybe in the range of 5-6 mil per year
  18. why doesn't Happy Felsh ever get the respect he deserves for being a great slugger?
  19. good find, i really want to see what both he and richar can do as a platoon at 2nd before we start trading away other prospects (like aaron cunningham) to fill our 2nd base needs
  20. I don't see any way that rowand can keep putting up the numbers for the next five years. With the reckless manner in which he plays his body is also going to be more prone to breaking down over the next several years. also, last season was a career year for him, i would much prefer a platoon of brian anderson and jerry owens as opposed to paying 12-14 million a year for someone who is an injury waiting to happen and unlikely to keep up the same level of production
  21. More info on Linebrink k/bb 2004 3.19 2005 3.04 2006 3.09 2007 2.00 OPS against 2004 .619 2005 .583 2006 .678 2007 .742 also, career ground/fly ratio of 0.89 ouch!
  22. I think that with richar and bourgeois we have two guys that we need to take a look at before we start trading players away
  23. QUOTE(max power @ Nov 22, 2007 -> 08:53 AM) Its is probable that someone will fail. Rehab doesn't help, not at all. Its proven that about 9/10 people will fail in rehab and approximately 9/10 people who quit without rehab also fail. I've read volumes on this. However, the longer someone is clean, and its been quite some time for josh, the lower the probability of relapse will be(generally). Not necessarily true. I work in the field at two different treatment centers, one inpatient and one outpatient and the odd are much better long term for someone who does attend rehab. but thats beside the point I think that if we could get hamilton for a reasonable price, say crede and macdougal then i'd do it, if he keeps his head straight he's got all the tools to be a special player.
  24. I think that 20 mil and our 2nd round pick is way too much for linebrink. his peripherals have gotten progressively worse over the last 3 years, his k/bb has gone down, k/9 has gone down while obp, ops, and avg against have all gone up. Add this to a move to the al from the nl AND the fact that he's moving from the best pitchers park in baseball (Petco) to one of the best hitters parks, this does not bode well for his future performance as our setup. I hope that i'm wrong, but i don't think that i am. Best case scenario as i see it is he has a good first half of the season and we can swing him to a contender for prospects.
