I hated it when we included him in the trade for Swisher instead of Anderson and seeing how he's producing early this year just makes me sick to think that he could be in center for the next 10 years for us instead of Swisher who's more suited for 1b or Anderson who I don't think will ever really be able to hit above 250 or so. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?.../SPBF10R5LJ.DTL

Reason to Suspect Quentin is Using Illegal Substances
bighurt4life replied to Chet Lemon's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Honestly, there's no reason to believe that CQ is juicing, he's been a great hitter for a long time just needed to adjust to the bigs. this guy's blog doesn't even deserve a response -
QUOTE (WCSox @ May 19, 2008 -> 02:16 PM) Me too. Haven't been back there for a while, but there are lots of Sox fans in the Tinley/Frankfort/Orland Park area where much of my family currently lives. In Oregon, hackey sack and meth are a lot more popular than baseball. You'll be hard-pressed to find a decent sports bar in my neck of the woods, much less Sox fans. except for me, and i grew up in oregon. but you are right, I do love hackey sack and smoking meth

nobody else mentioned it yet but Brandon Allen hit for the cycle today

QUOTE (Wanne @ May 6, 2008 -> 12:05 AM) Anybody think maybe one of the people to go is Walker? I mean good god....how long can this go on with him having a "get out of jail free" card? Honestly...does moving Uribe solve anything? Isn't it a little much to put so much emphasis on the offensive output of the 9 hitter that plays pretty solid D and has the occassional 2-hit games? I agree with the previous post about the problem being out 3-4-5. Not exclusively them...but I honestly feel their "serious to a fault" demeanor has a somewhat adverse effect at times. Just canning Uribe isn't going to do a whole lot IMO. we can only hope that it's going to be walker, we've got too many good hitters to have the offense performing like this

more depth in our farm system is always a good thing

massett has been pretty solid as long relief this year and we didn't just let Riske go, he was signed by the Royals to a pretty sizeable contract and they let him close which he wasn't going to get to do for us

7. Umpire George Moriarty vs. the White Sox (May 30, 1932) After the White Sox lost both ends of a doubleheader to the Indians in Cleveland, some of Chicago's players accused ump George Moriarty of deliberately making bad calls against them. Moriarty, who'd once played for the Sox, challenged the players to a fight, and pitcher Mike Gaston accepted. Moriarty knocked Gaston down with one punch, but broke his fist in the process. At that point, White Sox manager Lew Fonseca and catchers Charlie Berry and Frank Grube jumped the ump and thrashed him good, bloodying his mouth. Fellow umpire Bill Dinneen did try to help Moriarty, but George still had some brawl left in him. "You stay out of this, Bill," he said. "This is my fight." Then he got up and said, "Now who else is there who thinks I'm yellow?"

Aardsma made the 25 man roster in Boston this year, bit of a surprise but then again he had an era in the low 1's last season for the first month

The OFFICIAL "I was wrong about Joe Crede" thread
bighurt4life replied to shawnhillegas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (sox-r-us @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 10:28 PM) So you would risk messing with a winning team (assuming Sox are contending for a pennant at the trade deadline) and play with the club house chemistry etc by trading away Crede? So you do not care what message this would send to the remaining players on the team, most of whom love Crede (go read Kong, Buerhle, AJP's quotes in the Chicagosports.com article today) when they see their friend/team mate gone despite doing everything right this year (again assuming he continues to play well and stays healthy) .... And what do you do if Fields does not perform like Crede after the deadline? And what do you do if Fields makes a fielding error that leads to a critical loss in a playoff game (assuming we get there)? I guess in that case I am happy that Kenny and Ozzie do not think like you because I rather have people in charge who not what it means to win and how to further enable a winning attitude. First, these guys all know that this is a business and sometimes decisions have to be made from a business standpoint, if we have a guy waiting in the wings that can do a comparable job for a fraction of the money that's just good business, especially if we can trade the more expensive player (who is also a FA after the season) for a prospect that can help solidify out farm system or a player that can help us now. Second, we are only a few games into the season, the playoffs are a long ways away right now, Third, Fields not performing like Crede is just one of the risks of playing the game, if everything was an absolute then we wouldn't have to play the games. Last year I think he showed that he belongs in the majors and deserves to be starting, lets give him his shot, its not like he's going to be replacing George Brett. Crede is a good 3B and he's one of my favorite players on the team but he's not THAT good that he's unreplaceable -
The OFFICIAL "I was wrong about Joe Crede" thread
bighurt4life replied to shawnhillegas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I still think that Fields is the future at 3B for us, he works hard on his defense and he will be at least an average defender with a plus arm. He also has offensive potential that Crede simply doesn't not to mention that he will only be a fraction of the cost for the next 5-6 years. If Joe can continue his output for the first month or two of the season he will have built up his trade value enough to get something good in a trade, the Giants, Phillies, and Astros are the three teams that could need a 3B by then not to mention any injuries that will invariably happen by then. -
April Fools Day Thread: Joe Crede and Nick Masset dealt to SF

sonofab****, you got me, almost forgot that it's some type of day where people joke around a lot -
I'm surprised not more mentions of the Mike Cameron for Paul Konerko trade. Cameron is a decent player today and was pretty good for a few years with Seattle, but he is no where near the level of PK. Konerko has been the centerpiece of the Sox lineup and clubhouse for nearly a decade now. Given that info, I think that trade was certainly one of the best of all time for the Sox.
-
Of that list Jenks obviously has the most value as he's young, super talented and cheap but there's no way we can trade him, the best player on that list that actually has a chance of being traded is Konerko

Give Alexi a month or two in AAA to get a little better with the glove then bring him up. Hopefully Uribe gets off to a decent start and we can trade him for something of value. I certainly don't want to see Uribe as our 2b for the entire season, we know what he brings to the table, .220 and 15-20 hr with a lot of strikeouts. I want to see what someone else can do

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 16, 2008 -> 02:23 PM) Bottom line is he's the Sox starter, whether you like it or not. I think its pretty petty for people to rip him on one start in spring training as opposed to seeing what he does at the major league level. Plus, if any of you had a clue, you'd realize that pitchers tend to go through a dead arm period during spring and this isn't some typical Hawk BS that he will ocassionally spew to make excuses (I've heard it countlessly from analysts and current/former pitchers over and over and that includes Steve Stone who isn't the type of guy that makes excuses). Yes, Floyd had some bad starts last year, but he also had some good starts against the Tigers and like it or not is the starter. b****ing and moaning isn't going to change it and making stupid comments after he's had multiple starts this spring where he's thrown consistently above 90MPH (well at least based upon what I've read and your right, maybe there is some major conspiracy by the Tribune/Southtown and every highlight I've seen this spring which has shown him at times throwing over 90). Oh and Ozzie has always been the type of manager that kisses a players ass and follows the company line, oh wait, last I remember he has at many times ripped the s*** out of guys (including Brian Anderson, Jerry Owens at times last year who he called too scared to play in the majors). I'm honestly sick and tired of the negative nancy bulls*** and when the season starts I'm just going to start one massive thread to keep stupid whining to (cause I know at times we all need to whine and b**** and get crap out cause all of us are very passionate about this squad). Its one thing when we want to discuss a players skillset and make projections, but its another when I have to see a new thread every time someone has one bad day (especially in the case of guys like Konerko/Dye, etc who have proven themselves to be pretty freaking good players throughout there career). I couldn't agree more, he's only been with us for a short time and still has pretty good stuff. I give him the first half of the season to figure things out. If he doesn't do it by then put him on waivers but I'm not ready to crucify him for one bad start, he's our #5 starter for better or worse, might as well support him

For a proven major leaguer i would hope to get a minor league player with some potential, not just a bench guy

Make a wild or bold predicition for the 2008 Sox
bighurt4life replied to santo=dorf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
KW gets his head out of his ass and realizes midseason that we are not contenders and trades some of our aging bats/pitchers to solidify our farm system and ACTUALLY be contenders down the road. either that or KW gets fired -

Nick Masset reports 25 pounds lighter and stronger
bighurt4life replied to sox-r-us's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Losing 25 lbs of cheesburger and fries type of weight isn't the same as Giambi losing 3 inches off his forearms in one offseason -
Inge has a career line of .241 .304 .394 Crede is .259 .305 .446 on top of this, Crede's ops was increasing every year while Inge has had decreasing ops for several years except for '06 when he hit career high HR which was an anomaly. If Crede can prove his health I'll take his offense over Inge any day of the week, also, if his injury problems come back then you're only on the hook for a one year contract. If Inge continues to decline in his offense then you're on the hook for another 3 years and 18 mil, not so appealing Also, I'm not sure that the Tigers want to trade Inge, they are gearing up for a title run right now and he can be a great late inning defensive replacement for Cabrerra and he can also spell Pudge as a backup catcher with a decent bat, you need guys like that on your bench for a title run so I don't see any moves being made with him.

I hear that Uribe likes to cover his naked body with Bar-B-Que sauce after each game, maybe that's what was bothering Josh.

Obviously KW did a good job in getting players that will help us this coming season. He upgraded our bullpen, our infield and our outfield. Thats a pretty good offseason, what the article doesn't mention however is that KW stripped our minors to the bone to make these deals happen. How good will we be in 3 years when team is getting older and we have no legitimate in-house options for replacement?
-
It seems to me like KW has been a bit too happy to trade away our top prospects in recent years, I can only hope that he was right in trading away GIO DLS and Sweeny, we did get a proven player out of that deal but if those guys pan out it will be tough for KW to convince JR and the Sox fans that he deserves to keep his job. It is not only a GM's job to make sure that a team is immediately competitive but it is also his job to ensure the long-term viability of a team's talent, you always have to consider how a deal will affect you down the road.
