Good stuff Cubano, as always
-
He was a big time prospect in the Angels system a few years ago but he could never stay healthy, he has had lots of back problems, just like our current 3B. I believe that he got surgery last year and is apparently healthy enough now to play a full season. I was saying that we should take a flyer on him and sign him this past offseason but I think he wanted to go to an organization where he would have the chance to come to the majors if healthy and the sox have crede and fields (not to say that we even offered him a contract) so we were probably out of the running early on

Nick has been successful in spots this season and has definitely improved over last year so if we do trade him I'd hope that we get back at least a low level high-ceiling prospect. We got Nick from the Rangers in the Brandon McCarthy trade so if they have an interest it would appear to me that they see something in him from his time in their organization and value him, similar to when Kenny got Gio Gonzalez back from Philly. Lets not just think that he's a bum because he's had a few bad outings.
-
I hope we're the real deal but there are some serious questions surrounding this team right now

QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 29, 2008 -> 01:08 AM) Can't you teach plate discipline or is he a lost cause? You can work on it but I think that at 28 he is what he is

Charlotte v Louisville Getz 2-4 2 doubles Richar 1-5 HR Birmingham v West Tenn Negron 3-5 2 doubles Allen 0-2 3BB Nanita 2-3 2 doubles Poreda wins 7IP 2ER 2BB 3K 2HR Texiera 1IP 2K 1S W-S v Lynchburg Shelby 2-2 2 doubles Paiml 2-3 with 1st HR on the season Ely gets the win, pitching staff combines to throw a 3-hitter Kannapolis v Delmarva Escobar 1-3 1BB ops up to almost .600 after terrible start in kanny Gallager 1-4 3B Maxwell 5IP 5ER 4BB 10K Great Falls v Helena Gerst 2-5 2B Kuhn 3-5 3B he's hitting .378, not bad for a 14th round pick known for his glove Bristol with the day off

QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Jul 28, 2008 -> 04:09 PM) Eldred 28 HRs and 78 RBIs even after missing a month too bad he doesn't have any plate discipline because he's got some great tools at the plate

This tells me that the Dodgers have soured on LaRoche, replacing him after he's played only 27 games this season. Maybe we can pry him away from them as a buy-low type prospect a-la Quentin this past season. They have too many 3B prospects right now anyways with him Dewitt and a 3rd guy who I can't remember, we should scoop him up on the cheap if we can.
-
nice list, looks like a lot of talented SP available this winter, all the more reason in my mind to not trade away prospects for a pitcher this season

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 06:01 AM) If that's all it would take to get Halladay, KW should make that deal before Toronto could change their minds. Floyd has been good this season, much better than I thought he would ever be, but........................even though he's kept damage at a minimum recently for the most part, he hasn't really cruised in a game for a while even though he's posted some very good outings. There's still something there that makes me think the wheels could fall off any moment. Maybe its just me with Floyd, but unlike a guy like Buerhle who when you look at him on the mound, his face looks like he could be playing in a softball game at a company picnic, Floyd always looks like a guy who is testifying before Congress with something to hide. Halladay is an ace, a perrenial CY Young candidate. If those guys are available and the price isn't insane, you grab them. couldn't agree more. i hope that floyd has a great career but he just seems to be teetering on the verge of a collapse at any time. that being said, there's no way that we'll get halladay for floyd and fields, at a minimum we'd have to include poreda and shelby/richar/allen. the only SP avalible that i can think of who would fit the bill for a fields floyd deal would have to be duchscherer who i think is just having a lucky season and won't be this good in the long run

How Alexei's rookie year compares to other cuban players?
bighurt4life replied to Cubano's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If it weren't for the Longoria, the 3B in Tampa who's having a fantastic season Lexi would have the ROY award in the bag. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 11:12 AM) The Atlanta Braves front office was in attendance for some reason last night. I've heard that they were scouting their own team not ours but who knows

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) So does Joe Crede on well manicured properly lit fields. I wasn't talking about Crede nor was I making a comparison. I was just answering the question as to whether or not he is good defensively. Regardless of him learning a new position 20 errors in about a half season is a lot, be it on well kept fields or A ball fields. Who knows how he's going to develop in the future, and I hope that he turns into a great fielder and pro baseball player but the fact remains that as of right now he is a poor fielding 3rd baseman
-
I hate to be a wet blanket but he does have 20 errors on the season so far.
-
No way. The question I continue to ask regarding pitchers we're rumored to be interested in is are they better than what we have in AAA or bullpen right now? In the case of Washburn, I say no, I don't think he's so much better than the other options we have that I'd be willing to take on his contract and part with a prospect to get him.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) 200 innings a year, 111ERA+, 1.25 WHIP, and a huge GB/FB is 4th/5th starter material these days? sign me up He also plays in the weakest division in the NL, what happens to his whip and era when he has to face Detroit's lineup on a regular basis? My point is that I don't see him being that much of an upgrade over the Count or Masset/Richard/Broadway etc... Our rotation is pretty set 1-4 with Buerhle Danks Floyd Vasquez. I'd rather get the draft picks for O-Cab at the end of the season than trade him for a middling starter and weaken our lineup/defense for the rest of the season
-
I'll puke if we move Uribe just so we can overpay to get Brian Roberts and then trade a Type-A free agent for a #4-5 starter in Lowe. We've got plenty of options in AAA and our bullpen before we have to trade away O-Cab

Charlotte loses to Indianapolis 5-2 David Cook 3-4 Richar 1-5 with a 2B and 2RBI Brad Eldred back in the lineup after a broken hand kept him out for the last month or so. goes 1-3 Egbert 6IP 5R 2ER 5K gets the loss Birmingham vs. Mississippi postponed Winston-Salem loses to regular Salem 6-4 Retherford 2-3 with a 2B 1RBI and 1BB also his 20th E on the season Shelby 2-5 1RBI 19th SB on season Kannapolis vs. Savannah postponed Great Falls losing to Ogden 10-3 in the 8th Gerst 0-4 Grace 3-3 Bristol loses to Kingston 3-0 in rain shortened game Silverio 0-2 2K Dubler 1-2 2B Castillo 2-3, avg up to .377 but almost no power for a 1B

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 02:10 AM) The only problem with him is that he hits lefty and his batting average against righties is .083 this year at Charlotte. So not the ideal backup for A.J. That's actually not bad, that means that AJ can sit against lefties and he can play
-
Charlotte loses to Louisville 9-4 Getz has a good game going 3-3 with 2bb Wasserman got roughed up a bit, gave up 3er in 1IP Birmingham loses to Montgomery 6-4 Brandon Allen had his first bad game in AA 0-4 with 2K W-S had the day off Kannapolis loses to Savannah 8-6 Escobar 2-5 with a 2B, Gallager 1-5 with his 8th hr Great Falls loses to Ogden 5-0 GF team gets no runs despite getting 10 hits to Ogden's 6 hits. Sox Option Russell, Call Up Clayton Richard
bighurt4life replied to JDsDirtySox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Richard is probably the replacement for Jose who was DL'ed and Carassco called up to replace him, carassco is the long man so i'm guessing Richard will get JC's next start -
Charlotte loses to Louisville 5-2 Haeger with the L now 8-8. Fields 2-4 with a 2B Birmingham wins in 10 over Montgomery 5-3 Cassel gets the start and gives up 1ER in 6IP, his era down to 2.89. W-S loses to Myrtle Beach 8-3 Texiera pitches 2 innings, no ER, his era down to 0.93. Retherford is 3-4 with a 2B on the night. Kanny loses 3-1 to Charelston Fleisher hits another HR and has an OPS of over 1.000 but he's also 24 going on 25 so just an organizational player GF loses to Ogden 5-2 Gerst not in the lineup tonight for some reason. Hope he's not injured again Bristol loses to Johnson City in 10, 8-7 Silverio 1-3 with a 2B and 2bb and 0k which is nice to see since he's only got 4bb on the season and 25k. also had his 11th E on the season. Kendall went 2-5 with a 2B. He may be a player, was an '07 draft pick but didn't play at all last season because of a broken finger.

QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) You guys just didn't wana listen nobody really thought he would sign, of all the tough sign draft picks in probably the entire draft he was the one who didn't need the money

Cubs-Sox WS - Whose fans could survive losing?
bighurt4life replied to ChiCard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) I'd think we'd be better winners and losers. You hit the nail on the head. Cubs fans kinda remind me of Red Sox fans, they'll talk a grip of sh** when they're winning but as soon as they lose they get very sore about it and don't want to hear anything (although that seems to be more of a Boston thing than just a R Sox thing)
