Jorge Castillo didn't get a hit today, he had at least a 9 game hit streak, might have been more. He's really been a great find, he's hitting .370 so far as a pro. He doesn't seem to have any power but he's still going to be a valuable player for us I think

Brandon Allen didn't play in AA long enough to warrant an all star selection even though he tore it up in the few games he did play -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 09:58 AM) Nobody even mentioned Poreda huh? He has a sub 3 ERA now. Went 6IP 1ER 5k's I noticed that he's pitched over 160 innings this year with no apparent arm troubles. That's nice to know that he's healthy because of the arm troubles he was predicted to have. That's not to say that he'll never get hurt but still he's made it though almost an entire season injury free.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Yeah he's done well in his brief season, ERA is just over 3, great k/9 ratio. Sox got him this year as our 5th round pick. He has a history of being a strikeout guy in his college career. Had a bit of a down year for school in '08 compared to his '06 & '07 years. No idea as to what kind of stuff he has, but apparently it can be pretty nasty if he's getting this kind of strikeout rate throughout his career. Sometimes when a guy has a good fastball in the rookie leagues they seem to get tons and tons of Ks but have the ability to get knocked around with ease in the upper levels when they don't have good secondary stuff. (I don't even know what his fastball is at or what kind of movement it has, that's just a statement about rookie leagues). We'll see how Kannapolis treats him next season. Great Falls is fairly elementary, so you don't want to get too excited too early, however he should be on your radar. I just did an AAP on him last night, you can read about his stuff

Sounds like he has great upside. I've read other reports that say his FB sits around 91-93 with great late life and his scouting video would confirm that it does have excellent late life. He must throw a 2 seamer because it bores in hard on righties and in his scout video the it looked downright nasty. Also, another scouting report said that his changeup was a plus pitch though I can't confirm this. He's been fantastic this year so far in Great Falls He's 4-4 with a 3.06 ERA 64.2IP 86K 19BB thats a 4.53 to 1 K to BB ratio which is fantastic. He also has a 1.06 Whip and a .216 avg against so his peripherals look great. I'd be shocked if he wasn't moved up to Kannapolis next year, he'll be 22 then, there's also a chance that he'll move straight to Winston-Salem but we'll see.
-
So he's been getting knocked around pretty badly in Great Falls so far. His era is 7.56 with 30K and 20BB in 25ip, all in relief. The positive side is that he has a GO/AO ratio of 4.38 and avg. against is just .263 so he's getting plenty of strikeouts and the avg against is pretty low, it would seem that he just needs to work on his control. He also had a really bad start in GF and has been trying to battle back since then. We'll see what happens with him.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 12:39 PM) 3 at the most, possibly 2. (if Crede isn't even offered Arb) Don't be surprised if we sign Joe to another 1 year contract. He'll need to stay healthy for a full season before he can cash in on a long-term deal.

He's quickly moving up my list of fav sox players. I love the way he plays the game (doesn't hurt that he's very very good) but he's also a pretty humble guy, he went to stanford so he's obviously an intelligent person and he plays hard. Doesn't ever seem to take a play off.

Brandon Allen went deep again, that's about once every 3 games since his promotion to Birmingham. If these numbers hold up he should hit 54 homers for the Sox in 2010.

I'll always remember the 93 playoffs when he hit that HR after not having a single one all season

QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 09:15 AM) Someone's going to give him a chance next season. He does have 25 walks and 125 K's on the season though. That's not a very good ratio and it only figures to get worse in the bigs. He's probably just a AAAA player, hasn't done much with his previous big league stints but I'd still like to see him with Charlotte next season as well

Danks has been showing some skill with the bat, hopefully his power can finally develop. I'm glad we got him in the system, he could be our starting CF in a couple of years

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Aug 23, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) Quentin is hitless in 3 games, I believe. He has drawn a ton of walks over the past week though. I never get to watch the games b/c I live on the west coast but are teams just starting to pitch around him lately? force someone else to beat us like they did with frank back in the day. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) Silverio has 25 errors already!?!?!!? Move him to 1B already... He is only 17 playing with players who are probably on avg 3-5 years older than he is so I'm not too worried about it just yet
