It's that time of year again...2016 edition

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 05:56 PM) Also that line of thinking about winning only serves one benefit, immediate gratification. But does it matter past that day? Or month? Do we really care now how their record was in 2013, 2014? Hell, 2015 we only care to serve as an immediate comparison to now. Just think, two more losses in 2014 and we could have drafted Benintendi. But thank god we had those two extra wins!! Exactly. Now who knows if the Sox would have actually taken Benintendi, but with those 2 extra meaningless wins, we never even had the chance to. Just lose baby! -
QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 10:52 PM) right?!?...forgot about that. And Coats....and Kevan Smith. 4 Sox rookies have been hurt on their debut this season.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) Gordon Beckham's CAREER WAR with the Sox was 7.6 What's the average career WAR for a first round pick from the White Sox? How many games do you lose to get that pick to produce that WAR? If we make decisions based on expected value, which is an extremely rational way of looking at things, it seems like we are rooting to lose 5 games now to hit the once in a lifetime lottery for a superstar or....get those 5 wins back incrementally? It would be one thing if top draft picks made a HUGE impact on games, but unlike, say, basketball where a top draft pick can completely change your team, it seems like a once in a lifetime thing for a baseball team to get that kind of pick, and even then it's more about luck than a particular draft position. I suppose I'm saying I can't come up with a reason to lose games to improve upon a draft position that seems to have an arbitrary impact on the team as a whole. Do you think it makes a difference to win 76 games and miss the playoffs, or win 70 games and miss the playoffs? -

Since Chance is our ambassador, I wish they would set up for him to host a festival at US Cellular EVERY year. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) And Anderson. Fulmer has also (been rushed) reached the big leagues. Too small of sample size for me to include either one of them yet. Only reason I include Rodon already is because I don't forsee him ever being sent back down again. I think he's a lock. Anderson and Fulmer still could, IMO. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) Ok, so, in other words, we should deliberately lose in the hopes of landing....Gordon Beckham, right? If that's how you choose to rationalize it in your head, then yes. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 01:52 PM) a .678 career OPS is a bonafide major league talent? huh. What's your definition of "bonafide"?? This is his 8th season in the major leagues. Clearly he's enough of a major leaguer to last this long. And Carlos Rodon should be added to that list as well, actually. He's been just fine so far as a 23 year old major leaguer. -
QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 07:35 AM) No it's not. No, it's definitely better than the Chapman package, but I agree that it's still light. Unless Groome would have been that PTBNL, then it would have been fair enough.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 02:24 AM) I don't know why u guys root for losses. The draft remains a crapshoot. Rodon not looking so special of late. Please refer to 2015 or 2014's version to read these types of responses ad nauseam. -

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) Except the White Sox don't do a great job of identifying future stars in their first round draft picks? And before you say 'it's all a crap shoot' then why willfully lose for a low-percentage crap shoot? Since 1990, how many 1st rounders from this list not named Chris Sale turned out to be bonafide major league talent? http://espn.go.com/mlb/draft/history/_/team/chw Gordon Beckham. And besides, was Nick Hostetler running those drafts? Don't pretend nothing has changed in the draft room. -

QUOTE (soxfan18 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 11:33 PM) Blows my mind that this is cheaper than the friggen NIU game. I know it's 2 different groups running these events, but feel like they could've gotten more for this than they did. Festival goers have no issue dropping a lot more than $50 after fees even for bad views. Well after fees, the regular cheap cheats would come out to $50. On the field seats were going to be about $95 after fees, and club seats like $170. -

Chance decided to allow fans to buy the previously unavailable "obstructed view" seats. And I got a pair! He sold them for only $25 I stead of $35 for the other cheapseats. My seat is in the LF bleachers. Wont be able to see anything, but they are setting up video screens all over to watch. Going to attempt to sneak to better seats. -

Yep. Officially daily update time. -
I'll still watch any game that I can, but I will no longer constantly check twitter when I can, or record games. But I'll still watch games and I'll still go to games. Got 2 more planned already. That will give me 8 for the year and my goal is 10.

QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Obviously Yankees aren't a buyer right now, but I would happy to raid their farm system and deal Sale in the offseason. Sale for Frazier, Mateo, Judge, Rutherford, and Sheffield would be a nice haul ACQUIRE ALL THE OUTFIELDERS THEY GOT.
-
Cool, let's do this all over again in 12 months when the Sox trade none of their talent. Wheeeeeeeee.

QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) Does MLB network have a live stream online or anything? Yeah, but it's an obscure website. http://mlb.com

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 12:37 PM) He also said there is interest Still doesn't imply talks. I have interest in sleeping with Anna Kendrick, but we haven't discussed it yet.

Woah....Marlins are giving Rea back to San Diego and are livid that they were given a broken player. Seeking recourse.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) Lmao what is even going on To be fair, Rogers said "They talked Puig last winter", he didn't say they are talking now.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2016 -> 12:27 PM) User Actions Following Bob NightengaleVerified account @BNightengale The #Whitesox insist they are not having any trade talks with #Dodgers involving Yasiel Puig Silver lining....didn't deny they are having trade talks with Dodgers in general.
-
Here the thing about Puig......one, he's been bad this year. Two, he was hurt last year. And three, he's signed through 2018, and IMO, we won't be contenders until 2018. So we really only get 1 year to win with Puig? Not saying I would rather keep Shields, just saying this doesn't really help our future as much unless our plan is to flip him once he regains some value.
-
These should just be moved to the Shields trade, no?
