  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 04:23 PM) Danish profiles as a reliever due to his delivery. Montas doesn't profile as a reliever at all, unless the Sox have to rush him on up and devalue their young players. He's 21 years old and his secondary pitches are improving. He may not fully develop, but that's true for any pitcher. But he doesn't profile as a reliever. Actually it scares me a little that he's on the 40 man. I don't think he's rule 5 eligible, and he won't be ready for a rotation spot this year. Danish profiles as a reliever due to his funky delivery. Montas profiles as a reliever due to his uneven delivery that scouts think will give him control issues. Both guys have the stuff to be starters, and both guys can overcome those issues because they are more "I don't like how this looks" and not "this isn't working". They are both getting results with their deliveries, and until they aren't anymore, I don't see why we shouldn't assume they will be starters.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 04:30 PM) bernstein may be a screamy jerk but that garbage in bmags post is just flat-out stupid. It's not even meatball hurr durr nerds in their moms basement stuff, it's just a complete lack of understanding of the game of baseball. I was just referring to the host yelling and calling the guy an idiot. Bernstein is such an ass to all his listeners, I would NEVER call in to his show.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) There was an excruciating debate where an on air personality was claiming all of baseballs woes were due to advanced analytics (strikeouts), and a caller said "well a part of it is that the average speed of a pitch ahs gone up 4 mph" and he was like "ARE YOU TELLING ME THAT A PROFESSIONAL HITTER IS GONNA HAVE TROUBLE HITTING A 94 MPH FASTBALL DOWN THE MIDDLE MORE THAN A 90MPH FASTBALL? YOU ARE AN IDIOT THEY ARE PROFESSIONALS" Yea that was like the last time I went there. Sounds like Dan Berstein.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 20, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) Not good most of the time, but when mlb draft happened they were only station discussing. Liked it then. But I mean, 87.7, most people don't even know that's on the dial. My car radio can't even get below 88.1, so I was never even able to listen to it, although I would have when The Score is going on hour-10 of Bears talk that makes me want to swerve in to oncoming traffic.
  5. Woah, Newsroom got crazy this week.
  6. The poll is a little confusing and not representative. I picked "AAA/Sept. Call up" because I want him to start the year in the minors (AA, preferably). And then come up after his Super-2 has passed, assuming he's pitching well obviously. All that to be done as a starter, of course.
  7. QUOTE (y2chae @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 12:06 AM) The Sox have hovered around the $100 million payroll mark ever since the 2006 season. With the new TV money coming in, it wouldn't be a surprise to continue having a $100 million payroll. The Sox are committed to $48 million, with arbitration, tenders and pre arbitration costs it will probably be around $58 million. If the Sox don't reach that mark it won't be because of ownership spending limitations, I have no doubt that Hahn has the green light to spend $60 million if he feels he can get the right deals. I believe we are projected to be at about $66M right now after Duke's deal.
  8. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Anyone here have a 4k (UHD) TV yet? I'm wondering how they handle live TV from non-4k sources. (Lag, softened image when upconverted) My buddy is getting one this weekend. I'll let you know how it is.
  9. Man, I really thought I was going to nail my Saul prediction in Sunday's episode. I guess I still could.
  10. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) I think you have delusions of grandeur for this team next year. We aren't going to be WS competitors next year...we are talking about the same 73 win team right? I expect upgrades and improvements, but this team needs to still have a future WS run in mind. A run that Alexei won't be apart of. Zach Lee Schebler Jose Dominguez Darnell Sweeney Chris Reed Alex Guerrero All of those guys are very interesting and sure would help our system out. 3 of them + Eithier(and cash) for Danks and Alexei and I would do it in a heartbeat. The trade that I threw out a couple weeks ago when the Alexei/LAD rumors started was Zach Lee, Scott Schebler, and Chris Reed for Alexei.
  11. Going to pick up Far Cry 4 right now. Hope to get a couple hours in tonight.
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 06:23 PM) I know Bowden made a speculative "trades that could happen" article and that was one. That's the only mention I've ever seen of it at least. Bowden is terrible.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Man, you are full of hyperbole when it comes to movies and TV. At no point during Interstellar did it ever cross my mind as one of the best in any way, let alone best movie I've ever seen. Madden 25th was the best Madden ever made, until it became the worst most unplayable garbage.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) I hate to disappoint, but the dodger want to try to free up 2 spots in the outfield b/c of Pederson and Schebler. they already have him earmark for their OF of the future. this was already stated in a article about 2 weeks ago. Yeah, and moving 2 very expensive contracts is easier said than done. Their OF consists of..... Kemp, Crawford, Either, Puig, Van Slyke. Then Pederson and even though Verdugo is still a few years away from the majors, he's ranked higher on their prospect lists than Schebler. So that puts him 7th, maybe 8th on their organizational depth chart. I think if the Sox were offering a player they wanted, they would be willing to move him.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 08:31 AM) Good find on Schebler. Any idea how his defense plays since that should also be taken into consideration ? It sounds like he's not a great defender, and will be a LF full time. Has good speed though, so that will help his cause. Here is a quote from him about a month ago at the AFL. "I've been working on my arm the last year and a half, so hopefully, I can keep going with that," Schebler told Josh Jackson of MLB.com. "And defensive breaks. I've been working pretty hard on those. I went to instructs early to work on defense and hopefully, I'll get some payoffs from that."
  16. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 07:01 PM) Eh. My wife and I watched this on Friday. It was ok, but I kept reading reviews like yours - one of the better action movies out in recent years, should have gotten more respect. I didn't see it. Entertaining, but nothing earth shattering. IMO it was on par with Oblivion, which again was fine, but not great. I turned it off once that weird monster thing showed up maybe 30 minutes in to the movie. Not for me.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 10:21 PM) And the Dodgers, of course. St. Louis was probably going to have to dump Bourjos, but now they might need to keep him. Yeah, but a trade with the Dodgers and their expensive OF would probably be a lot harder to make than a Santiago-Eaton type deal for a team's extra AAA/MLB OF. If I were to trade for a Dodger OF, not necessarily for 2015 (unless he dominates spring), I would target Scott Schebler. The dude had 65 XBH last season (28 HR, 23 2B, 14 3B) in the AA-Southern League, which I believe it a pitcher's league. The power hitting lefthander just turned 24 and he's the Dodger's 3rd best OF prospect behind Pederson and Verdugo. I'm sure it won't take much to get him considering he's about 7th or 8th on their organizational OF depth chart. I'd like to throw him in to AAA Charlotte next season and see how he does. EDIT: I should also mentioned that from A+ to AA, he increased his walk rate, home runs, SLG%, and cut down his K rate. A 19% K-rate is pretty nice for a 28 HR guy. He hit .280. Then he played in the fall league that just ended and batted .310 with 5 HR in 23 games.
  18. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 11:40 PM) I would rather have miller then thatcher or duke. First off miller will be turning 30 next year were as duke Is going to be 32 in april and thatcher is 33. Also if you look at the stats miller has put up since being moved to the pen has been pretty good and consistent. Thatchers era after being traded to the al this year ballooned to a 8.53. Dukes is very spotty over the years from being good to horrible. Plus miller has the lowest batting average against vs right and left handed batters. I don't think anyone is questioning if Miller is better than Thatcher or Duke. What we are saying is that relievers are so random that going 2 yrs/$10M on Thatcher would be smarter than going 3 yrs/$33M on Miller, considering it's possible they could have similar seasons next year anyway.
  19. Wow I guess I never considered how crowded that Pirates OF is. So our OF trade partners seem to be Pirates, Reds, and Rockies.
  20. QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 01:53 PM) Knowing they have at least $40 million to spend this off-season, I'm resigned that they are going to overpay whether it's on middle relievers or veterans past their peak years. I don't think they're getting Andrew Miller. I think Joe Thatcher may be a better/cheaper move for the Sox. Posted a 9.4 K/9 and a 1.1 BB/9 last year w/ the Diamondbacks and a 2.63 ERA. He finished the year w/ the Dodgers and was terrible in only 6 innings.
  21. QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) How many years is Miller likely to get? I'd prefer 1 year deals, but I know that excludes guys like Miller. At least 3, probably 4.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 15, 2014 -> 11:43 PM) Nightcrawler is great. That discussion kind of ended. Did anyone see it? I saw it, but I didn't love it. I think my problem was that I was expecting a different movie than I got.
  23. The latest Fangraphs Audio features McDaniel talking White Sox prospects. I won't hear this until tonight when I go to sleep, but the rest of you can feel free to listen. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/fangraphs-a...-the-white-sox/
  24. QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 16, 2014 -> 01:29 PM) I'm a bit wary of giving multi-year deals to middle relievers. I don't like giving any reliever more than 2 years.
