2014 White Sox draft pick thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (TRU @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) Hmm, would it be possible to just keep taking impossible to sign guys and offering them 90% of the slot so you just keep accumulating picks in the following draft over the course of many years? Possible, sure. But assume that the Sox end up not signing Rodon, and we end up drafting him again at #4. We also then get our 2nd pick somewhere in teens. While that sounds like an awesome haul for 1 draft year, wouldn't you rather have had Rodon get a year a development in your system, instead of pitching another year in college? He loses a development year. It seems like you are going to have a couple awful years of prospects, just to have an amazing year, while losing all the development time in between. I don't know, it just doesn't sound like a great strategy unless you are picking late in the draft and decide that strategy for 1 year because you forecast a much deeper class the following year. I think the Red Sox have employed that strategy before. -
Sox give money to Toronto, get humans in return

Maybe Tuiasosopo is just catfishing us like he did to Te'o, and he really is Ozney Guillen. -
Finally caught up on The Americans. Love that storyline at the very end with Paige. That is going to be fun. Crazy twist at the end with Jared too. I did not see that coming.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 02:50 PM) A+ on the new thread title. If I didn't know better, I would have thought the titled was written by Carson Cistulli himself. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) No doubt about it...Tanaka is ROY if he puts up those numbers. Not even close to me. If Tanaka ends the season with a 2.02 ERA and 25 wins, he is winning the ROY, CY, and MVP.

2014 White Sox draft pick thread

Let's just say the Sox and Rodon don't agree for whatever reason. The Sox then get the #3 pick next year, plus whatever spot we end up at the end of this year, right? -
Garfein: Sox could trade Beckham for pitching
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would definitely think the Giants would have interest in Beckham. Despite his 8 HR and his very nice walk rate, Brandon Hicks is batting under .200 and is striking out 30% of the time. Maybe a return of someone like RHRP Heath Hembree? -

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) Yep you plan for the most likely scenario and that is what you described. If Beckham is really a 4 WAR 2b in the future well shoot but it sure as heck isn't the most likely scenario. Gotta allocate resources as you said and if we can get cheap production from semian or Sanchez atn2b it frees up resources to help elswhere, like the pitching staff. Beckham isn't even on pace to be a 3 WAR player this year. He is at 1.1, and on pace for around 2.5, which is what he did in his rookie year. -

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 12:46 PM) Seems odd to me that we wait and wait for this 1st round pick to reach his potential and now that he does, we all want to trade him. Because you get more for players when they actually have value. Beckham actually has value now, and I think most people here including myself don't trust that he has finally turned the corner. Every week I wait for him to plummit back to Earth like we all knew Tyler Flowers would. To Beckham's credit though, he has done a nice job sustaining it nearly 2 1/2 months in to the season. He is a fringe top-10 secondbaseman in baseball right now, and that has some value. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 02:24 PM) What teams are interested in Beckham? Cubs still? What could we realistically get for him? Beckham for Jason Hammel? Although I'm not sure the Cubs need any middle infielders for their future plans. -
Phil the Chimp...better than Swisher's last mascot

It was painful watching those guys try to be funny and appropriate at the same time. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 11:08 PM) And only a game out of last place. AL Central is a major suck fest again +/- games to .500 by divison.... AL East - 10 game under AL West - 16 games over NL East - 3 games under NL Central - 3 games under NL West - 2 games under AL Central - 4 games over The AL Central does not suck. The AL Central is (at least by this metric) the 2nd best division on baseball. We don't have any great teams, but we don't have any bad teams either. The AL West is just a bloodbath.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 11:06 PM) You think Sale is gonna come in anything but laser focused tomorrow? I genuinely fear for the psyche of Tiger hitters after tomorrow. Don't worry, Saurez will ruin Sale's pretty little line tomorrow. He seems like the type that would.

LOL, who picks the Miller Lite Plays of the Game? De Aza'a mom? The 2 plays were the routine flyball he caught in LF, and a jamshot bloop to RF that he was trying to crush..... How about the Conor Gillaspie double that broke the game open?
-
I'd pay attention if it wasn't B/R.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 11, 2014 -> 10:17 PM) Abreu so nice to watch hit. That guy in Anaheim was tough to watch though.
-
Don't scare me like that, Yogi, Jesus...
-
Love you Conor!

For as bad as Ventura managed the end of Sale's outing last week, Ausmus just looked even worse right there. Verlander had absolutely nothing left and was nearing 120 pitches and he STILL let him face Eaton. Absolutely terrible managing.
-
Thanks, Ausmus!
-
Ausmus must absolutely abhor his bullpen.
-
There is no reason for Verlander to still be out there.
-
Adrian Nieto just saying "f*** YOUR MINOR LEAGUES", and continuing to looking like he belongs here.
-
Whoops. We'll take it.
