  1. I feel infinitely more confident against the Orioles than I do the Royals or Twins. We seem to play to our opponent's level. We play well against good teams, we play bad against bad teams.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 10:19 PM) This stat about "being worth a couple wins a year" is an example of an advanced stat that bothers me. It makes it sound like the Sox as an organization would only be a loss or two worse w/out Lexi. Let's say the Sox replace him with some stiff who hits .220 and makes a large amount of errors and has not so great range. It's "Wins above REPLACEMENT". If there is some terrible player batting .220 making tons of errors, he is liking going produce negative WAR. So the difference would be from Alexei's positive WAR to the other guy's negative WAR. Because you used Leury as an example, let's extrapolate Alexei's current season and Leury's. Obviously this isn't fair because of the sample sizes, especially for Leury. But I digress...... Alexei's project WAR this year based on a 650 PA-average is..... about 3.6 WAR Leury's projected WAR extrapolated on the same scale to 650 PA-average would be.... about -2 WAR So if you really wanted to see the different between Alexei to Garcia over an entire year based on what you've seen this season, it's about a 5 1/2 to 6 win difference. That takes a 90 win team to an 84 win team, just based off 1 position. That's a very significant change.
  3. Welp, time to leave for my brother's wedding shower. I'm glad I got to see a couple innings of absolutely horses*** White Sox baseball. I'm really trying not to overreact and start crossing my fingers for a fire sale, but this team is just so unbelievably inconsistent.
  4. I remember when Johnny Danks was really good for 5 starts. That was fun.
  5. As much as I hate Flowers, beautiful job by him to leave the plate open and get UNDER that hop, instead of over it.
  6. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 12:34 PM) I believe he means this year. If pitchers pitched a lot already in college/HS, sometimes they'll start them out in the pen after being drafted. I'm sure he'll be a starter long term. Yes, this is what I meant. Start or relieve for the AZL team this summer. I wasn't sure what his workload was in H.S.
  7. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 11:35 AM) Curious when Spencer Adams will make his debute for AZL. Maybe today? Has it been determined if he is going to start or relieve?
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 22, 2014 -> 12:19 AM) Blackhawks: Find a way to bring Ryan Kesler to my tv screen wearing the Indian Head. Thank You. f***, I hope not man.
  9. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 08:09 PM) Rienzo didn't get any help from left-fielder Alejandro De Aza, who couldn't get to Joe Mauer's two-run double in the decisive fifth. "Coming off a lefty's bat, you have to be a really good outfielder to be able to make that play," Ventura said. Evidently, that would not be De Aza. Per Chicago Tribune
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 06:38 PM) They're not going to throw money at Hanley Ramirez, either. Chase Headley is a possibility, simply because he's been so terrible for the Padres for two seasons now...but it always comes back to the fact they don't want to have Abreu DHing full-time at this point in his career. So you can't really move Conor or Davidson to 1B. I'm not sure why everyone thinks he was so terrible last year. He produced a 3.5 WAR. That was 6th best for all 3B last year. Most of that came from his glovework, but he was still showing a very good eye at the plate last season. This season, yes, he's been below average. On pace for a WAR under 2.0.
  11. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 21, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) Mostly this thread and reddit. I recall myself and others giving it great reviews. The game is a ton of fun.
  12. Welcome back, Terrance Marin. 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 K Trey Zewski is just a dude. 2/3, 2 BB. Needs to cut down his K rate though. His K-rate and BB-rates are almost exactly what of Courtney Hawkins this year, but hitting for better average, less power. Chevy Clarke likes the White Sox org. better I think. 2/5, 2B, HR. Hitting .389. Patrick Palmiero, 3/5, hitting .545 this week/season. Also, Bradley Salgado has taken to the mound nicely so far. Tonight he went 3 IP, 2 H, 0 BB, 0 R, 7 Ks. Salgado now has 9 K in 4 IP this year.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 03:00 PM) Keith Law has an insider piece on Tomas today: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/keith-law/...aw_YasmaniTomas He says that he may have more power than Abreu does but he isn't as good of a prospect as Puig or Abreu. Says he has below average bat speed, will have to play in an OF corner, and will have a low .obp. Good for 25-30 HR's annually though. He expects that he will get paid more than he should because that market is still the only one without a cap on spending. Slider-bat speed....perhaps?
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) Identical cousins! /old person reference If we get him, then Yasmani immediately becomes the Boo Boo to Abreu's Yogi.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 07:30 AM) Find me any GM who said he just drafted a guy who he didn't think he could sign with his #1 pick. Right, which is my point. We were all throwing out quotes about Hahn saying that he feels confident he will sign him, etc, and yet Huntington said the exact same things about Appel and didn't get it done. In other words, it means nothing.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) Here is Tomas' crushing a ball in the WBC I'm pretty sure that is just a clean shaven Jose Abreu. He looks exactly like him.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2014 -> 01:43 AM) I dunno. If we lose Game Two, the sweep may be on. Baseball isn't like other sports. Your odds against a team can change drastically game-to-game because the pitching match-ups change each day. If other sports played 3-4 game sets like baseball does, there would be TONS of sweeps. But in baseball, it's hard to sweep anyone. I put it at like 5% chance we get swept.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 19, 2014 -> 11:47 PM) de Orca might be the most overrated draft pick in the history of White Sox baseball. He's an intriguing prospect, but you absolutely cannot go after him until you know the outcome of Rodon. He's not being overrated, he is just the only tough sign that we have, therefore he gets a lot of attention from us. We have no one else to talk about other than Rodon and MDO.
