QUOTE (farmteam @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 10:31 PM) He grew up a Blackhawks fan. He's going to play for North Dakota though. Ew. I just got home so I did some digging. I've seen comps that range from Brendan Gallagher to Thomas Vanek. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 10:25 PM) It's great to watch, but bittersweet with the offense around him. I had Abreu with 26 homers in 140 games this year. He has 25 homers in 66 starts. I had him at 28 HR and 106 RBI I believe. He looks to blow past both those numbers.

So I quickly do a search for the Hawks 1st RD pick tonight on Twitter, and the only results I get girls saying how hot he is and that they each "claim dibs" on him. Great. -
Very nice start for Freudenberg. 5 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 08:35 PM) It's on Disney so it's sure to be unwatchable but yes, I'll be watching tonight. Love me some Boy Meets World. Was it on ABC Family before?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 27, 2014 -> 09:08 AM) @JayZawaski670 Ben Smith and Antti Raanta back in the fold. Both sign 2 year deals. We'll get numbers at some point today, I'd bet. Very nice. -
So who else is sentimentally pumped for Girl Meets World premiere tonight? Maybe most of you are too old to have to attachment I had growing up with that show, but I can't wait to see Corey and Topanga and Shawn and Eric and Mr. Feeny. Hopefully Minkas makes a cameo? I saw a little clip from the show already and Ben Savage stole the scene per usual.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:54 PM) Both Chicago 1B are awesome. Abreu's been everything the Sox could have asked for, and more. Rizzo's having a sensational season, as his stat line is up to 292/404/533. The new regime of Abreu and Rizzo in Chicago isn't that far off from the Konerko and Derek Lee days of the mid-2000s.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 06:21 PM) Yup. I still truly don't know what to make of him. Every now and them he'll pitch a game where it seems he's got the swing and miss stuff going. But then there are many other games where seemingly every single ball is put into play. From what we've heard, Beck has been told to work on certain pitches. Like he would go starts throwing entirely fastballs, or entirely change-ups or whatever. His promotion may because he has done well improving these pitches individually, and now they are ready for him to put it all together and throw whatever pitches he wants, when he wants. Like taking the training wheels off, essentially. I'm just speculating though based off what we've heard. His poor strikeout rate may be a result of that.

While we are discussing WAR, If you take Abreu's WAR per PA, and give Abreu the same amount of PA that Rizzo has, they are actually both at 2.8 WAR right now. And Abreu would be above Goldschmidt, and Encarnacion. At the very top would be Miggy, and then Abreu-Rizzo tied for 2nd. But that's just one metric. I just thought it was worth noting.

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 11:54 AM) Any highlights to the convo? We were discussing prospect with no "plus tools", but is still a solid player. I said that Rangel Ravelo immediately came to mind for me. He said he would consider his hit tool a plus, and some think he can develop his power in to a plus as well. Said he thought Trey had some raw skills, but his glove is behind his bat at 3B. I then asked him about if Hawkins may have finally turned a corner this year, and if he could actually regain some of that polish he lost from scouts. He said he saw Hawkins 6 weeks ago and didn't see anything to indicate that he figured it out at the plate. Said scouts don't seem to thrilled about him, but being only 20 and rebounding from such a bad season is a good step. Said he is still an easy out though. Said his raw skills though make scouts still believe it's hard to give up on him. He also said he thinks a move to Birmingham may help Hawkins simply because of the park factors. BIR is very pitcher friendly, W-S is very hitter friendly. Thinks a bigger field will make Hawkins tone down his big HR hacks. He said he thinks Hawkins fundamental issue at the plate is that he doesn't recognize the spin of the ball yet. He misses badly on breaking pitches. We also talked about how the Sox seem to never have a "no-s***" offensive prospect, at least not since Beckham and that didn't work out too well so far. He said a scout told him that the Sox seem to draft hitters with really good tools, but they never seem to improve within the system. They come in with great raw skills, but those skills stay raw. We ended our talk with me telling him that the Sox should send Thome over to W-S to fix Hawkins once he is done fixing Davidson in Charlotte. He enjoyed it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 01:59 PM) At the rate he is going, he might finish the season there, especially if they get to the post season. Stoltz told me last night that a move to Birmingham may be beneficial to Hawkins not because not he deserves to play in AA, but because Birmingham is a very pitcher friend park vs. W-S which is very hitter heavy. Thinks it may help Hawkins learn to be a better hitter by not swinging for HR all the time. He thinks Hawkins skipping over Kanny was a mistake for that reason, park factor.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 02:09 PM) I like that Kim Jong Un said that the US hired rogue filmmakers to make this treasonous movie. if rogue means stoner, then yes While I do not agree with the making of this movie, how is it treasonous? Are the film makers North Korean?
-
I talked with Nathanial Stoltz a lot last night about our prospects. I asked him about Ravelo, Trey, and Hawkins.
-
I wonder if they are going to let him loose him in AAA now? No more working on things, and see how he can put it all together?
-
Are there any real shows on right now, or just all this reality crap? I think Ray Donovan might be starting soon? Not sure how I feel about The Leftovers on HBO. Debuts Sunday.

The best thing we can hope for is that he got traded for some low-level prospect. Would be a nice little birthday present. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) On who's list? BA? BP? MLB? Someone else? I'm interested to know this as well.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 25, 2014 -> 02:54 PM) Depends what they want to do with Basto. He is currently on the DL but has handled WS pretty well and there is no one in BHam that is blocking him. Knowing the Sox, they will both move up a level at some point this season. Speaking of promotions, I imagine Peter will be headed to Kanny pretty soon the way he has torn through the Pioneer league this far. Speaking of Jake Peter, I was listening to a post-Draft Day 1 podcast from Baseball America, and I was surprised to hear how good of a pick they thought Jake Peter was. I must be mixing up my prospects, because I thought he was supposed be a "save money" type pick, not anyone to be excited about. But they said they really liked pick.... And to be exact, John Manuel said this about Peter.... "Jacob Peter is the perfect second basemen with big time arm strength to turn the DP. Oh by the way, he's 92-94 off the mound." And now, of course, he is dominating. Also in that podcast, they spoke for a few minutes about Brett Austin and how they loved his make-up and his personality. I guess he caught MULTIPLE double-headers and they said the is just a very tough catcher who loves to catch and they think he's got a good chance to stick at C for that reason.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 05:23 PM) We don't care about some argument you had on another site. None of us care. If you really need to make such comments, do so on some forum where people care, but that place isn't Soxtalk. By commenting the way you do, you just look like an individual that gets off putting people down. No one cares....yet multiple people replied...got it. Or you COULD just say "Ok, let's get back on topic now", and be done with it. But obviously that would have been too mild and uninsulting. And picking fights is more fun I guess. But you're an admin, so I'll just sit here and take it. OK, LET'S GET BACK ON TOPIC NOW....

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 04:40 PM) No offense Chili but grow up. Who gives a rats nat about something someone else commented on. Is it really that important to spend your time discrediting him? Are you looking for some big ego trip by disproving him on the web or something? Who cares. It's a message board, where people discuss things. We are discussing top prospects and where they rank. I'm not sure where the outrage is, other than it not having to do w/ this thread, in which case that is completely understandable.

And I don't want Kesler because I don't want to have to root for him. I wouldn't want Burrows or Bieksa either. I hate dirty players and I don't want them on my favorite teams, regardless of skill level. They aren't just faceless names on a scoresheet to me. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) You were all over him, you know it, I don't need to go search archives for it. I mean, that has to be the only way you can think to justify not wanting Sharp here, but also hating the idea of Kesler. Top 6 forwards anyone? And you're worried about the Sharp contract? Guys with worse contracts than Sharp: Hossa, Bickell, Crawford. Anything you say about Sharp at this point in regards to age or regression or "falling off the table," is that +100 for Hossa. BTW, if trading TT means solving the 2nd line center problem and getting another Cup or two, I'm all for it. The window is NOW, and TT may not be ready (if he ever is) to be elite for a few years. They have to be aggressive. The lack of fixing the center problem for four years was painfully obvious against the Kings. They hesitated on grabbing Jeff Carter 2 years ago, and we see how that worked out. Since you are too lazy to back up your claims, I'll have to find them for you.... Here are the only 4 comments I made about Tuevo.... "TT tonight, I hope. So stoked." "Teuvo Time tonight. "I expect nothing less than 2 goals and 2 assists out of Viner tonight." ".....But seriously, he looked pretty solid out there. Made a couple nice defensive plays and although it seemed like he barely had the puck tonight, he did show his quick hands and stick handling. He couldn't have been any less physical though. I was afraid someone was going to hit him and he'd break in half." "Morin was great, Benny Smith has been turning a corner this spring, but unfortunately Teuvo rots on the healthy scratch list.... is there no league this kid can be playing in right now?" You let me know which of those 4 times I was anointing him the savior. And don't even try to point to my obviously sarcastic comment about expecting 4 points in his debut. That was a joke about his expectations on twitter. I would be thrilled if we were able to get out from under Hossa's contract, but no one is going to want to take that on. Sharp's contract isn't one that can't be moved. He has more trade value than any of those 4 guys, which is why I want him moved. A return would free up money and hopefully fill some holes. I'm sorry you don't agree with that? -
22 Jump Street was hilarious. I don't remember a comedy sequel being on par with the original. Loved it. Watched Grand Bupapest Hotel last night, and I really liked it as well. I didn't expect it to be so funny. Didn't care for the ending, but I really liked the style of movie and the story.
