QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Does anyone have a link that shows how many #1 picks have signed? Tks. http://www.mlbdailydish.com/2014/6/9/57937...ignings-tracker -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Remember how he was so excited for TT, and was anointing him the savior before he even played a game (and he probably had never seen him skate before, either)? He probably thinks he can play both wing AND center on the 2nd line. I did? Let me see the evidence of that. Unless of course that doesn't fit your attack, then just keep making things up. I was excited for TT, yes, and I still am. -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) Thank god? He leads the team in goals every year. Why are you so excited to get rid of him? Nothing to do with his past performances, I just worry he is going to fall off the table any season now and I would like to save that money for Kane/Toews and other holes. I like the guy, I just worry about that contract. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 02:13 PM) Also the fact that he's only selling fantasy sports books on Amazon is a good bullet against him. Oh yeah, I've already gone that route about how writing a fantasy sports book on Amazon that no one has reviewed is nothing to make me bow down for. He replies... "You look incredibly foolish for ranting over and over again about what "the professionals" think only to find out that you were arguing with one, but don't look even more absurd by pretending that you know anything about my reputation within the industry." And now that Micah Johnson and Frank Montas have been named to the Future's Game, that will certainly help my case even more.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) Looking at his numbers...why'd they outright him? I'd definitely give him a shot over Sierra. Looking at his numbers, he doesn't appear to have any loud tools. Little power, little base stealing ability, little on base skills. Seems like he's just got that hit tool.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 01:22 PM) He's a fantasy sports writer. His books are about fantasy football, and baseball. He's not a prospect expert, he's a fantasy sports dude. In any case, I wouldn't get all worked up. I'll take the opinions of actual baseball experts first. I know, I'm just looking for bullets to use against him. The Jason Park-Tim Anderson Top 50 thing was excellent ammunition. Micah Johnson making the Future's Game is another nice bullet too.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 12:54 PM) Rumor is that Patrick Sharp is on the trade block. Thank god. I've been pining for this since we won the cup 365 days ago. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 24, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) Who is this dude you were arguing with? What is his actual name (if he has a published book, he must have mentioned a name)? J.D. Bolick. I keep telling him "The professionals think the Sox system is between 21-27, and that Tim Anderson will likely be a top 100 prospect". And he keeps replying with "I am a professional. You like to talk s*** about my rankings, but then reference the rankings of other professionals. I am a professional just like them." Basically he thinks his opinion is just as important and respected as Jason Parks, Jim Callis, John Manuel, Keith Law, Dave Cameron, and the like. He's got a real ego on him I guess. By the way, I through out this comment before I saw the Jason Parks-Tim Anderson Top 50 thing, and he's been using this comment as a "You're just a giant homer, you know nothing about baseball, I am a professional, you should be learning from my wisdom, not fighting me on this." I was trying to convey to him how the 29th or 30th ranked farm system's don't have 2, 3, or even 5 top 100 ranked players. ......."Anderson will be somewhere around the 50-60 range. Micah will be near the 80-90 range. Then there is a chance that Frank Montas makes some lists, and maybe Courtney Hawkins if he keeps up his improved year."

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) No , no you do not have to throw a pitch right down the middle in that scenario . You don't have to throw a pitch right down the middle in any scenario in a close game or if you're up by 4 or 5 runs and a HR is hit and you still have the lead. Right down the middle doesn't imply anything except it was a really good hitters pitch. Weather it was just below the knees or the upper strike zone doesn't matter. The middle of the plate is where hitters feast. Stone was saying Davis is a low ball hitter and has to be pitched high with that uppercut swing So any high heat or 2 seamer in on the hands has to be thrown. Has to. If you walk or hit the guy so what. Start all over with the next hitter. You're still ahead and still can get out of the inning with a DP. Sounds like we are both blaming Tyler Flowers here....... -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 10:20 PM) Sorry that game put me in a sour mood and you're doing exactly what I said would be done in the game thread starter if the Sox kept losing and I hate it. We just finished drafting .Can we at least wait until the next HS and college seasons start before we get all excited about our next draft ? The 2 guys you listed as the 6th/8th picks (Happ and Dean) aren't even on the top 20 of the list caulfield put up. I'm sorry you feel this way. -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 10:33 PM) He gave up hits to the first four batters he faced, sounds like nerves. That's also a massive jump. But it's the smallest jump he could possibly make from HS right?

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 10:03 PM) Jordan Danks is quietly been hitting the ball and bringing his average up.. Sanchez keeps hitting as well.. I can't wait to see Micah up in the big leagues.. In about a month we might need to trade Beckham and Ramirez and bring up Johnson and Sanchez.. But for some reason I highly doubt we ever trade Ramirez.. I wonder how Abreu would take it if Viciedo and Ramirez were dealt Suicide.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) That list is beyond meaningless right now so throwing any names out or trying to predict what pick the Sox get is pointless. Thanks for your input. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 10:02 PM) Looking at those two lists, it's intriguing that Matuella is projected as the 2nd pick and didn't even make the other list. Hmmm... Same for Dean and Happ. It could be because B/R is terrible, or it could be because we are so damn far away from the draft that nobody has any idea. I wonder if Daz is considered a consensus top 3 pick though. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 09:58 PM) If Flowers wanted a slider right down the middle, that's terrible . No one wants to throw a guy struggling or any guy for that matter a pitch like that. I think that HBP played a big part in what was thrown . Belly had Jones down 1 and 2 and tried to bust him in and hit him. A pitcher needs the confidence to throw inside and jam the guy into hitting into the DP . He didn't want to hit him or walk him so he throws junk up there and the result was predictable. Either he needs to trust his pitches or be taken from the closer's role if he doesn't have the confidence to throw what should be thrown. You got to throw over the middle of the plate in that scenario. Belly isn't good enough to paint the insider upper corner. He threw a strike low, Davis just went down and golfed it out. "Right down the middle" implies it was both over the middle of the plate and just below the belt. It was over the middle of the plate, but just above the knees. I'm not saying it was the right pitch call, which is why I blame Tyler more than I blame Belly for that. -

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 09:39 PM) Oh you mean Miguel Cabrera? lol. We all know B/R sucks, but they've done more research than I am willing to do right now, so here is there project top 10 for next years draft..... 1) CF Daz Cameron - HS (Mike Cameron's son) 2) RHP Michael Matuella - Duke 3) SS Alex Bregman - LSU 4) SS Brendan Rogers - HS 5) LHP Nathan Kirby - Virginia 6) 2B Ian Happ - Cincinnati 7) CF Jahmai Jones - HS 8) OF Kyle Dean - HS 9) SS/3B John Aiello - HS 10) RHP Carson Fulmer - Vanderbilt Of those, it sounds like Happ is the best college hitter, and Kyle Dean is the best prep hitter. Dean apparently has monster-raw power due to exceptional bat speed, and a big arm to play RF. 8th overall is definitely a spot this team could land in. By the way, we are currently in the 6-8 spot. Obviously 11 1/2 months away from the draft, but that would mean Happ or Dean at this point. -

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 09:34 PM) I have no idea what pitch you were looking at .That thing was a spinner down the heart of the plate. Hit his spot perfectly ? You my friend better get your eyes checked. I just checked the video again. It was more over the center of the plate than I had though. It was just above the knees, over the center. But it was still right where Flowers had his mitt. Pause the video as Belly is about to release, and straighten Flowers' wrist up. That's exactly where the ball was headed. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2014 -> 09:21 PM) And you have to give a lot of credit to Showalter for PHing Davis there. The guy was hitting about .160 for the last month, and the guy he replaced (Delmon Young) was 3 for 4 on the night. Yeah, that was about the DUMBEST move Showalter could have made....until it worked. Who the f*** does that? -

If you notice in the replay, Belly hits his spot perfectly. It was a slider over the outer third/corner. Davis pulled it. I agree he shouldn't have thrown that pitch, but Belly threw the pitch exactly where Flowers wanted it. I'm getting dangerously close to driving the "Suck for draft spot" bus again. God forbid we get swept in Baltimore, I think I'll be starting the campaign up against for those braves souls who are willing to have our fandom questioned again. -

Also, I would like to point out that that was the best AB I've seen from Abreu in WEEKS. He laid off 3 sliders away that were knee high. He check-swung at 2 of them nicely, and completely laid off the other one. That was an EASY strikeout for him earlier this month.
