  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 02:16 PM) Don't go there. I've been totally colorblind regarding people for a long long time. It doesn't register with me. Lol, calm down, I'm not claiming racism. We all know people can't be racist against white people, silly. I meant it's pretty much the only similarity between those 2 players, yet they both get labled as "grinders" for whatever reason.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) As far as batting average and on base, do you agree Eaton will bring Rowan-esque numbers? Or is his potential more like Damon? I like Eaton but he screams "intangible grinderman" to me with not a lot of concrete production. Aaron Rowand was a .273 career hitter, not a .250 hitter. And with us, he was closer to around .285. Rowand also hit 20+ HR in a year multiple times, and could crush the ball. Eaton will never do that, he is a slap hitter mostly. Rowand was a righty, Eaton a lefty. Eaton has tons of speed, Rowand had average speed. There are far more differences with those two guys than similarities. Eaton would be closer to a Scott Podsednik with much better fielding and less base stealing ability. We really don't have anyone from our recent past to compare Eaton to.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) How so? Both are grinders with upside of about .250. Wouldn't you say? Is this code for smallish white player?
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 02:04 PM) This may receive some scorn, but isn't Eaton's upside that of Rowand? Eaton's not going to be a hit machine, but a grinder. I guess if he's Johnny Damon, that would be an even better upside than Rowand, but expectations for Eaton should be Rowand-esque, right? There is nothing similar between the two, other than playing CF.
  5. Danny Duffy just blowing gas by all our hitters.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 01:50 PM) It's interesting timing considering they just picked up Tuiasosopo, and still have Danks, Tekotte, and Mitchell on the Charlotte roster....and they want to give Semien some playing time in the OF. Mitchell has got to be released any day now. And maybe we will see Danks or Taylor called up if the Sox dump Sierra or trade De Aza.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) I know Flowers is terrible, but I think L. Garcia is not a big league hitter either. And neither is Sierra. For as good as our offense has been this year, we have some GLARING holes on this team. At least Luery provides speed and versatility. K-Flow is laughably useless at this point. Release him, call up Phegley, and let Phegs and Nieto be the L/R platoon.
  8. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 01:46 PM) Flowers just a automatic strikeout. Fixed your post. In Tyler Flowers last 18 AB, he has 16 strikeouts. That's an 89% K-rate. That's actually impressive at this point. Can we start calling him K-Flow now?
  9. Wow.....Moustakas....wow. lol. That was Beckham-esque.
  10. Damn fans, stick your hands out there and touch it next time!
  11. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 14, 2014 -> 01:34 PM) He's been pretty solid in the minors sans this year. Never really showed anything in the majors. Maybe he's a Steverson guy. Jake Sanchez, who the Sox gave up, was an interesting prospect. That's a good point, I never thought about that. Steverson would know this kid by now.
  12. Kind of sucks losing Jake Sanchez. Although he was dominating a league he was too old for, I wanted to see how he did in AA. Maybe the Sox felt it would be better to trade him now before he gets exposed in AA, and let the A's find out for themselves.
  13. It's funny, when I saw this on Twitter I went "Oh hell yes!", and then I realized he's 28 now and it's not 2010 when he was a top 20 prospect in baseball. Man, he was great with Philly, and then really became mediocre when Oakland acquired him. I see he is being assigned to AAA, but he's got to be better than Sierra right? At least, offensively.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 04:22 PM) I'd rather him not pitch for the Sox this year anyway. Wouldn't that start the clock this year? I don't want to see him. I am looking forward to him being in the Sox rotation early next year. Only if it happened before Sept. 1st. I also don't want to see him in August. But as a September call-up? Hell yeah.
  15. QUOTE (TRU @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) And money Right, but I mean as far as any events happening that could stop us.
  16. Fun Fact better suited for a Catch-All thread..... The Sox currently have 4 hitters with a 1+ WAR already. Those 4 are on pace for around 14-15 WAR. We could easily end up with about 6 guys over that threshold. By the END of last year the Sox had 4 hitters above a 1+ WAR. Those 4 accumulated an 8.3 WAR.
  17. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) OK I thought committed meant like it's a sure thing he's going back to school and the Sox have no chance of signing him. I mean i know our 2nd round pick was committed to some school too but wasn't sure how that word was being used when it comes to how that 1st post is viewed. So if someone decides to go back to school and not sign with the Sox what will it say in the 1st post ? Nothing stops us from signing MDO except for the July 18th deadline.
  18. Just briefly looked up the new LG G3. Is there some big improvements I am missing? I mean, I love the G2, best phone I've ever had, but comparing specs between the two, it seems like a better screen is the only real difference, other than things like being able to remove the battery and adding external storage (both of which absolutely needed to happen). I didn't see anything about it being waterproof, which was always a feature I wanted to see, so I guess it's a good thing my G2 is still running like a champ *knock on wood*.
  19. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 12, 2014 -> 10:45 PM) That's so refreshing in the era of patent trolling. Tesla is an awesome company and I'd totally get one if the infrastructure for electric cars improve. Tesla is hoping to have a more affordable family car somewhere in the $30-$40K range in a couple years. That's the version I hope I'd be able to afford by then if I get a career job soon.
  20. What sucks is that Sale possibly outpitched Scherzer. It just came down to 1 swing by Vmart.
  21. Christ, finally Scherzer gets his 1st career CG so we can stop hearing about it every time he starts. Now if he can fix that other eye, we can end all the repetitive talking points.
  22. Nice start for Beck. 5 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K Semien - 3/4, HR, BB Trey - 1/3, 2B Fun stat on Erik Johnson. It's been 5 starts since the last time he pitched a game and DIDN'T walk more batter than he struck out. He is absolute sewer trash right now.
