  1. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 03:26 PM) Hitting coaches don't matter. There was a recent narrative coming out of ATL about how Greg Walker massively has helped Justin Upton. And I believe that just as much as I believed the people here that demonized GW when he was here as a Sox. You can't tell me I'm wrong, I can't tell you that you're wrong. It's too hard to know what affect (if any) they have.
  2. Gillaspie must have a different hitting coach than anyone else on this team. His approach is miles better.
  3. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) Those are the type of jams Q needs to pitch out of if he wants to break Hershiser's scoreless innings record. 17 1/3 down, 41 2/3 to go. I thought that streak was beaten? No? EDIT: Nope, I was thinking of Brad Zeigler, but his was to just scoreless innings to start a career. He got to 39.
  4. WHaaaaaaT! Have to admit though, I don't trust Kepp on DP balls. His arm is too weak and wild.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) You almost never sacrifice with 1 out, so DeAza was most likely bunting for a hit, and if Kep did bunt, it would have taken the Indians less than half a second to decide to walk Rios to get to Dunn. Good point, ahhh, the fun of Dunn hitting right in the middle of our good hitters.
  6. If they were willing to bunt Tekotte to 2nd with 1 out, why wouldn't they be willing to bunt Tekotte AND De Aza over with 1 out? Do they not trust Rios?
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) Is he doing that during a game or might someone else be doing it for him? I dunno. Twitter says it was an hour ago, but I have no idea when the W-S game ended.
  8. Wilkins 2/3, HR, 3 RBI. Now batting .286, OBP a touch under .400
  9. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) If anyone's curious, yes Hawkins is already retweeting about how he hit a HR. Yeah, I see that, my feed is full of him retweeting people mentioning his 6th HR. I really think he might be a little full of himself.
  10. Micah Johnson added another hit and another SB before his night was over. Is now 15/17. I wonder if he makes W-S by June.
  11. Mitchell with his 1st HR of the year after being recently demoted back to AA. Bassitt doing pretty nicely in his 2nd full year in W-S. Snodgress coasting through 3 IP. Micah Johnson increases his league lead and maybe entire minor league lead in SB to 14. He is 14/16 so far, has stolen 3rd multiple times in the past few games. EDIT: Yep, leads entire MiLB. Billy Hamilton is 2nd with 13.
  12. QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 10:43 AM) Thats awful, where did you pull this high leverage stat from though. I was actually referring to his periphrials and the eye test when I said he shouldn't be used in high leverage situations, but you found some sort of real stat? Fangraphs.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 02:07 AM) Starts in any "save situation" from the 7th inning on...that's why Matt Thornton had lots of them in the past couple of years, even if they were in the 7th and usually 8th inning. I guess I never consider a reliever can pitch the 8th and 9th innings and get the save. So accustomed to saves of 3 or less outs that it's weird to see a blown save given to a middle reliever.
  14. When did Blown Saves start to get awarded to relievers who give up the lead prior to the 9th inning? I noticed Ryan Matthues was given a BLOWN SAVE a couple days ago when he allowed a run in the 7th inning. Wouldn't that be more like a Blown Hold or something? Is it really assuming he would have pitched the final 3 innings of the game? But in the case of David Robertson, he was given a BS when he came in to a game with 7 1/3 outs already completed, so he wouldn't have pitched the final 3 innings, because there were only 2 2/3 IP left in a 9-inning game. And Uehara of KC got a blown save for allowing a run in the 8th. Is this normal???
  15. QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 23, 2013 -> 12:34 AM) With you 100% on these two points. RV I have seen enough, his baseball acumen, his understanding of game situation, his knowledge of player tendencies, his adaption of some of the newer strategies and information all seem to be well well below average to me. I have seen enough. Thornton, when was the last time he actually threw 96-98 and blew hitters away....2009? I understand velocity's drop as a player ages and the innings pile up, but so should the team's manager, scouts, and GM. However, apparently no one else has noticed this glaring trend as Thornton has continued to be use,d looked at, and penciled in by Sox management and our manager as this same 97-98 blow him away high leverage reliever now for years and he just isn't anymore. He's got no secondary pitch, not one he can throw for strikes, and now that he's throwing 93 not 98 his margin for error is much smaller. Does anyone else want to recognize hes not the same as he used to be and should not be used in need these need a strikeout-high leverage situations against other team's best hitters. Here is Thornton's K/9 rate from 2010 to 2013. 12.02, 9.50. 7.34, 3.68. Here is Thornton's vFB from 2010 to 2013. 96.1, 95.8, 95.0, 93.7 Here is Thornton's Swing Miss % from '10 to '13. 14.9, 10.4, 8.1, 5.2 ENOUGH SAID ON THORNTON! Not to mentioned he is to be garbage in High-Leverage situations, which seems to be when Robin loves to use him.... 2012 - .297 OppAVG, 7.00 ERA, 7 BB, 8 K, 1.44 WHIP, .841 OppOPS 2011 - .303 OppAVG, 4.80 ERA, 9 BB, 10 K, 1.93 WHIP, .838 OppOPS s***, his CAREER ERA in high-leverage situations is 5.98 and that's in 122 IP.
  16. Saw Macklemore & Ryan Lewis at IU on Wednesday. They were fantastic.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 09:35 PM) Anyone disagree that Erik Johnson is making himself into a top 100 prospect? And in traditional White Sox fashion, he will be ranked somewhere around #80, then make it in the majors and lose his prospect status before he ever reach a top 50 ranking, further perpetuating the notion that the Sox system never has any top prospects.
  18. Everyone feel free to join me in hashtagging my disappointment with #Corpseball. So far it's been unused on the Twittersphere.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 07:04 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20130422 Hawkins sitting I wonder how many K's he'll get today.
  20. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) Yeah. Her self mutilating is sort of disturbing. Way worse than Van Alden whipping himself, because she is skipping the exercise and just taking a razor blade to her back. So gross.
  21. It's kind of interesting and awesome that Johnson has done better, the higher he has moved up in the system. He was okay in Kanny, he was great in W-S, and now he is dominating in Birmingham.
