  1. So far all 3 of the Tigers hits have been potential outs had an awesome play been made. Tough breaks for Gavin so far. Each hit was 6 inches away from being an out.
  2. Max is looking pretty damn awesome today. This could be hard to watch offensively.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:30 PM) Wow, what a dumbass decision. I'm glad you waited until the result to tell us how you felt about it. You are like, soooooo smart.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) Is Santiago the closer tonight? I heard it's Johnny Danks on weekends.
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 4, 2012 -> 09:05 PM) This is a completely different team on the road. Why is that? Because our fans boo Dunn, duh.
  6. Beckham in April - .153, 0 HR, 2 RBI Beckham in May - .615, 2 HR, 6 RBI LOL. Fun w/ monthly splits and sample sizes!
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 4, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) Is it true that Hawk said "It's easier to find a starter than a closer"? That statement is just wrong on so many levels. I mean, technically it's true. There are 5 times as many starters in baseball than there are closers. And there are many more great starters in baseball than great closers, but still, of equal skill, a starter has much more value.
  8. I almost drove off the road when I heard this news. The only thing I can HOPE for is that they want to limit his innings in the middle part of the season so he can have enough left in the tank to move back in the rotation by July maybe and finish out the season strong. I'm just basing this off his rumored 170 innings or so limit they wanted to employ. Maybe instead of getting to September at 170 innings, he can get to September with only 140 and they won't have to shut him down. I don't know, purely speculating and trying to hope for the best.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 4, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) Total mindblow. Who is that?
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ May 4, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) How did we get Jaye? Was he part of one of the trades last winter? Frasor or Santos? Frasor for Myles Jaye and Daniel Webb.
  11. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 4, 2012 -> 01:50 AM) I think I'll be the last person in the country without a smart phone. I'm already one of the few without facebook. Yay anti technology. Ok, let's race then.
  12. Very encouraging start for Jaye. That's great to see.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:18 PM) Zobrist is a career 15% BB/PA guy, and he's had 2 solid seasons with 20+ HR. uh....ok. Anyway, note the actual important part of my post. 20% is nothing to be worried about, especially if he is posting a walk rate that high.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 3, 2012 -> 10:04 AM) Yes you have, you were young, but this was Griffey Jr. Deadspin has a funny video of Harper showing up at the washington monument the other day to take a few softball cuts. He whiffs on the first one, which is pretty funny, then he sends the next one a mile away If by "mile away" you mean a popup like 200 feet away, then yeah, a mile.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:33 PM) IIRC, the Hawks played well without Toews, especially once they got Oduya. The Hossa injury hurt, but they weren't exactly dominating the series at that point, they were 5.5 seconds away from being down 2-0. Hossa's injury though, I think that was a game changer in the series. Every game was close, but Hossa would have probably put them over the top.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 3, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) Note the common thread in those names though...every one of them is a serious power bat. If you're putting up 10-15 home runs, then 20% K's is going to leave you with a low average and low OBP. If you're hitting 30+ HR, that's when you stop caring about the 20% strikeouts. Well then Ben Zobrist if you'd like. He has a 21 K% and a 18 BB% and is pretty much a 15 HR guy. It's just hard to find any speed players to compare because most of them walk considerably less than Mitchell does. So power hitters seem to be the only ones who match up in those 2 categories. Bottom line though, 20% is nothing to be worried about. 15% or less would be perfect, 25% would be really pushing it. But 20% is just fine.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 2, 2012 -> 09:54 AM) Over a 600 PA season, 20% SO rate is 120 K's, if it translated directly. If a guy is walking a lot and hits 20 HR, that's still a very useful player. Not an MVP, but that's a player somewhere between BJ Upton and the healthy Grady Sizemore. 20% is definitely acceptable. Right now, Matt Kemp, Ryan Braun, Curtis Granderson and Jay Bruce all have rates higher than 20%. Right now, Mitchell has a 19.8 K%, and a 18.9 BB%. That's Jose Bautista and Joey Votto like rates over the past 3 seasons.
  18. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 3, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) But Google dude.....google.... http://celebs.gather.com/viewArticle.actio...281474981270699 Wishididntknow.com has failed me once again.
  19. Yeah, I guess Marian Hossa isn't a big deal or anything. Or Jonathan Toews.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 3, 2012 -> 11:02 AM) No she doesnt. If she went anywhere to college she would go to Michigan where her parents are big boosters. But Google dude.....google.... http://wishididntknow.com/2011/05/20/victo...ith-kanye-west/
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 2, 2012 -> 11:49 PM) That's it, the header for SoxTalk should be Katie Upton with a Sox cap/bikini on and we can have random models appear with weekly guest columns that we ghostwrite for them. While looking up a photoshopped picture of Kate Upton in a Sox bikiki (to match my Jessica Alba one), I read that she goes to IU? What? Kate Upton goes to college? And not only that, but 2 hours from me, and a place a ton of my friends go to? Is that real life? And she is from SW Michigan, a little over an hour from where I live? WHY HAVE I NEVER KNOWN ANY OF THESE THINGS!!!!
  22. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ May 3, 2012 -> 12:26 AM) Weaver taking a no - no into the 9th. Would have been perfect but batter got on on a strike 3 passed ball. He walked a batter too, unless of course that walk took place after the 3rd strike pass ball, and would have been the 3rd out. I have no idea if that was the case though.
