  1. So it seems that the Sox have draft a good crop of pitchers so far.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 08:15 AM) If you draft a guy 13 and he turns out to be a good reliever, you're content with that. Most guys who are drafted after #10 never give you 1 WAR. But if you're drafting a guy at 13 who can only turn into a reliever, that's the bad strategy. Chris Sale at least still could be starting if the org chose to use him that way. And that's what I had said. I said UNTIL he becomes a starter, like, until the Sox actually decide to use him correctly, then he is not a good pick at #13, because all he has ever been so far has been a reliever.
  3. Sox take RHP Kyle McMillen, Kent St.
  4. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) Just want to point out that touching and maintaining a velocity are completely different things. Maybe pro coaches can get this guy to stick around 96 consistently, but we shouldn't expect more than that. He has plus velocity, let's not go thinking he's going to hit 100 on a regular basis. Also, the 100 report came from him JuCo and not a scouting service. I just meant that if he could touch 100 as a start, maybe he could stay in that area if he is a reliever. Either way, anything over 95 is great.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) I have zero problems drafting closer candidates in the 3rd round. Yeah, not a big problem, just wish that kind of stuff was coming from a starter.
  6. Soptic seems to have pretty solid mechanics, or at least nothing that looks like he will have injury problems. Not thrilled that he projects to be a reliever, but if he is coming out of the pen, maybe he can maintain that 100 MPH cheese.
  7. White Sox select RHP Jeff Soptic, Johnson County Community College
  8. Ok, here is the Sox pick? Osich coming?
  9. Has Josh Osich been drafted yet?
  10. Johnson's college stats 2009 and 2010. http://thebaseballcube.com/profile.asp?P=erik-johnson-3
  11. White Sox take RHP Erik Johnson, UC Berkley.
  12. This could very well set up as another pitching duel.
  13. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) gosh, I feel bad for you Blackhawk fans who have to deal with the Canucks and their fans a few times a year. If watching them dive and hold their faces every time they are touched isnt bad enough, now their fans are crying about Tim Thomas laying out their player and calling the hit on Horton nothing more than a good hockey hit. Loved that Tim Thomas hit. It was brilliant.
  14. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 02:43 AM) You lost all credibility as a poster if you had any with this statement. Drafting a reliever with the 13th overall pick is a terrible strategy.
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 01:09 AM) Yeah, Beckham, Sale, and Morel were all crap picks. Those guys will never make it to the majors. Until Sale is a starter, he is a crap pick.
  16. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) Viciedo BB's make me happy. Yup. I'd take 0/2 with 2 BB from him any day. He has improved all of his shortcomings. Kid is ready for the big leagues.
  17. Viciedo went 0/2 with 2 BB. Kuhn went 1/3 with 2 BB, SB. Reed struggled a bit. 2 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K.
  18. Law's profile for Walker........ Summary : Walker is an 80 runner on the 20-80 scouting scale, and one of the fastest runners in the draft this year. He's consistently timed at less than four seconds from home to first, and that speed could eventually translate into outfield range although it doesn't yet. His routes are not good and the swings from both sides need a lot of help, with a real tendency to get his hands out front and make weak contact when he makes contact at all. His plate discipline also isn't strong. However, he's a special kind of athlete that we rarely find in the baseball draft and will still go in the top few rounds despite the flaws. So we just drafted Juan Pierre 2.0?
  19. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) From Sickels. Makes me feel a little better, but on MLB Network they said he had above-average speed, not blazing speed.
  20. "Scouts say he needs to cut down on his strikeouts"..........umm.....cool?
  21. So does Norris have signability issues? Who are you guys looking at for the Sox pick? 2 away now....
