  1. QUOTE (Wanne @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) hahaa...glad somebody else picked up on that. Katy Perry on that list was so random.... I want to make sweet, sweet love to her. That's really the best reason I can give.
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=13108317 MLB Network takes a look at Peavy's recoil and the stress it puts on his lat and deacceleration muscle. Interesting.
  3. No, No, No, No, No. But I were the Cubs, I would trade for him. He could play 2B for them this year, and then have a chance to move to 3B when Aramis leaves, or he could stay at 2B.
  4. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 10:25 PM) You forgot "Peavy makes perfect defensive gem to challenge Buerhle for the 2011 honors!!" :lolhitting You lose for lack of "back" in the title.
  5. QUOTE (soxsider11 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 11:04 PM) Interesting question my roomate just asked me. Would you John Danks for Strasburg? Who the hell wouldn't?
  6. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 09:03 PM) This is cool Joe. When do you plan on doing this? I assume we're not going to have much time since 3B, CL, and SP might not be decided until the end of March. I like the simplified idea- maybe just AVG 2B HR RBI OBP. Nothing wrong with BB and K's either but then I have to look up stats on each of our guys. SB isn't necessary IMO since Pierre is the only guy that would be fun for; maybe that could be a separate thing at the end: guess Pierre's SB total. The idea of tinkering with ABs H BB HR 2B to get AVG OBP OPS til the cows come home sounds like too much work. I like the idea of doing the community averages although I'll take the under on those if we're betting. Yeah, I am eliminating BB's for batters, and probably K's too. I'm leaving SB though, because it's kind of fun to see who will get more steals, Konerko, AJ, or Castro.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) So you can't just let people fill in a SLG column. OK, have fun. So do you have any idea how to set up the Google Docs?
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 07:04 PM) Do they have a SS prospect at AAA that he's somehow blocking? He's a career .300+ hitter at AAA and he can possibly help their AAA team win a few games if they don't have a SS. What's wrong with that? Can minor league teams sign their own players, or do all the signings go under the Nationals, and they get assigned to minor league teams? Just wondering who pays for the minor league contracts, and if a player getting signed by the MLB team, but assigned to the minors mean the money is coming from the MLB team and not the AAA team. Slightly off-topic, I know.
  9. Guess for the newspaper headlines the day after he makes his first start? Welcome "Back" "Back" To Work "Back" To Basics Peavy Throws Perfect Game in First Game "Back" I'm going with the last one.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) Because 150 is an infinite amount more than 0. 300 is only twice that of 150. Perhaps I just come from the school that if you are going to do something like this, you should try and find something of substance out of it. As it's currently constructed, you aren't going to get a great deal out of it. If people believe Beckham will hit .290, they can also figure out about how many at bats they think he will get (as well as BB and HBP while making an educated guess towards SH and SF), and from there they can figure out how many hits he is going to get. They are already going to do doubles and homers, so you make an educated guess as to how many triples he ends up with, and from there you simply subtract. The only reason you do HBP, SF, and SH is to help determine plate appearances, which will allow you to be able to calculate OBP, SLG, and then OPS. If you are going to do OBP, you have to do SLG. Even if you don't want to make actual calculations based on doubles and triples and homers and whatever else, you freaking HAVE TO have SLG in there as well. Well I guess I went to some pretty s***ty schools then because I am not doing it like this. I am looking for help on figuring out Google Docs, not setting up what stats to use. Thanks, but no thanks.
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 11:46 AM) You can have people guess in ranges. That's what most projection polls do. They don't input exact numbers. Go look at how FanGraphs does it. Well my goal is to find a community average, with a +5% above and below deviation to find the range.
  12. I wouldn't be opposed, especially if the Rays somehow took Teahen off our hands.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 01:49 AM) If people are going to fill in 5 slots for 30 players, they are going to be willing to put in 10. And if people have an average in mind, of course they are going to dick with AB and H to get it where they want to, that's kind of the point. It's pretty simple to do something like that. And for pitchers, I would actually reverse it and allow for IP and ERA and then figure out the ER from there. For hitters - AB, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, BB, K, R, RBI, HBP, SF For pitchers - G, GS, IP, ERA, BB, H, K, HR, and SV too, though I think that will be pretty split between Sale and Thornton For accuracy's sake, this seems to be the much better route. Why would them filling out 5 mean they are willing to fill out 10? That's twice as much, and even I don't want to fill out almost 300 spots. 300 and 150 are quite different. "And if people have an average in mind, of course they are going to dick with AB and H to get it where they want to, that's kind of the point. " I don't agree. I think a lot of people will say "I think Beckham will hit .290 next year", but then they would have to sit there and tink with hits and AB until they get a number that comes out to .290, and then then they do the 1B, 2B, 3B, and HR, they need to have it equal the hits they put in, ect. Also, I don't see how HBP or SF are anything that anyone can guess with any sort of accuracy. Sure, you can assume Quentin will lead the team, and Pierre might be up there too, but those stats are too much dependent on the pitcher's inaccuracy, and aren't really numbers anyone is familiar with. Could you tell me who led the league in HBP last year or SF and with how many? Probably not. But you are much more likely to know who led the league in AVG, HR, RBI, SB, and maybe OBP.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) OBP is going to be just as complicated. Preferably, what you would do is simply set up all of the counting stats and then enter in the formulas for OBP, SLG, and OPS. Actually seems pretty simple. I will leave OBP, but eliminate walks. That solves that problem. And the reason I didn't do what you suggest is because then for things like AVG, you have to put Hits and At-bats, and since people are more likely to have an AVG in their mind, they would just sit and tinker with it to get their AVG right. And then for SLG, I would have to put in 1B, 2B, 3B, HR, and AB. OPS would obviously be easy, but if I am not including SLG or OBP, then it's not applicable. Basically, I just want to make this as simple for people, and as quick. I'm sure most people don't want to fill in 9-10 categories for 30 players on the list, so I just picked stats that don't have to make sense within other stats. I wanted independent stats (yes, I realize that RBI is somewhat independent of HR totals).
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 09:54 PM) Why isn't there a category for SLG? I figured it's too difficult of a category to guess, especially when you predict a 2B and HR, then your SLG could be way off what it should be based on that 2. Same reason I didn't include hits, because then there is math involved to get an accurate answer.
  16. Made this basic predictions chart, but can't figure out how to make the fields in a "response" form, and able for people to submit responses that are automatically compiled. I know it can be done, I'm just not sure how. https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Ag...uthkey=COH36oEO
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 06:58 PM) I think the easiest would probably be to do it on here and somepone have a set template cause than no one else would need to re-register. I also want to do a less comprehensive list. Something like.... AVG, OBP, 2B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K W, L, ERA, WHIP, IP, K, SV I think it would just be easier for people to fill out (and quicker).
  18. QUOTE (striker @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 08:16 AM) The community projection group has been setup. 1. http://www.fan-exchange.com 2. Register/Login 3. Click on Communities -> View 4. Click on Add Existing Community 5. ID = 15, Password = Peavy 6. Select White Sox as your team 7. Go add your predictions Predictions -> Stats (on left menu) Let me know if you find any issues. Does this require everyone to make an account to do the projections? Because I was hoping it could just be an easy thing like google docs where you just post a username and fill out the required stat fields.
  19. Fav. sports quotes.... "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" - Gretzky "If I ever saw myself saying I'm excited going to Cleveland, I'd punch myself in the face, because I'm lying." - Ichiro “People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.” - Rogers Hornsby
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) Matt Holliday is pretty solid defensively. Carlos Lee would have been a better example. Or, you know, our very own Carlos Quentin. He is certainly all bat, no glove.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 6, 2011 -> 08:43 PM) Well, for one, I don't consider year-to-year arbitration signings great 'moves'. Why on earth would I consider bringing CQ back a good move anyway? Maybe I should've said second favorite acquisition? And lol at being giddy over Will Ohman. I'm boggled that he would include Will Ohman over Jesse Crain as the better acquistion. And honestly, I think that Crain is the most forgotten offseason acquisition because I honestly forget about him every time I think about our bullpen too.
  22. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 5, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) For cereal? I don't see it, but I'm far from an expert. Are they really abandoning him as a super-utility? Huh. Mark Teahen would make a fine super-utility player, or at least a solid pinch-hitter, just not as his contract. I'd love to dump him somewhere.
  23. QUOTE (QuincyStandback @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 03:27 AM) Make sure your PS3 is in well ventilated area (not in a closed cabinet, or on the floor) and free of dust. It usually happens when your PS3 overheats. When that happens, just turn it off and unplug everything for a couple of hours. If you want, you can take the shell off the PS3 and clear out the dust and stuff. But i wouldn't recommend it if you don't know what you are doing. It happened to my 20GB a few times, but it worked after I followed those steps. Eventually, it kept happening to the point where it wouldn't turn on anymore and i had to buy a new one. I could have sent it into Sony but it would have cost $150+ to replace, so i just got a new one. If it is turning on and working right now you are fine, just make sure the fan isn't covered. A lot of the early PS3's overheat and have the same problem. Hope this helped. Good Luck. Yeah, or you can take it in to a place in Chicago who will fix it for $50. Only thing is that they fix it, not replace the part, so it's just a temporary fix, but at least it allows you time to back up your harddrive and save all your game saves. Mine is going on over a month now on the their fix.
  24. QUOTE (DGSOXFan14 @ Feb 4, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) We are gathering some of the greatest names minor league baseball has ever known. First Dallas McPherson, now Lastings Milledge, whos next? Ben Grieve?! In all seriousness tho, I love both of these moves. Both add depth at positions needed and may just need a change of scenery to spark their once promising careers. Well done KW. I'm hoping for Quentin McCracken, Coco Crisp, and then top it all off with Junior Spivey.
