2010-2011 NHL thread

Blackhawks and Corey Crawford just won their 3rd straight game! Shutout for Crawford! 28 or 29 saves I think. -
QUOTE (ChrisLikesBaseball @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 05:43 PM) But... that's not a Chicago White Sox cap.. Though, I do like the style of the jerseys quite a bit. I really like the white piping around the neck and bordering the buttons. I'd love for the (Chicago White) Sox to do something like this with the current logo. Yeah I know, but it was just my chance to show off that they sent me a free hat all the way from Dublin. Ha.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 05:26 PM) The Sox will not hold him back and only increase his innings by 30 per year. Your point is valid for next year and next year only. After that he would be ready for a 200 inning season based on workload. One thing you need to remember is that in out of the bullpen he will throw probably 60-70 innings. However in situations where he warms up and doesn't get into games and extra side sessions for bullpen pitchers he will get in 100 innings worth of throwing. Bullpen pitchers take alot of stress on thier arms compared to a starter. the stress of consecutive days throwing and the getting up and down probably equates to alot more innings than that. It really wouldn't take more than 1/2 a season to get his arm ready to start if they changed their mind right now. You mean next year as in 2012 right? Because there is no way he pitches 200 innings in 2012, and I still highly doubt he gets there in 2013, but 180+ can be a possibility if they really push him along fast. Like J4L is saying, this is our first legitimate pitching prospect in a while. If we are going to actually stretch him out into a starter, then I A) don't want him in the bullpen in 2011 (which is a battle I already lost), and then B.) I don't want him being rushed back into the rotation and expecting him to take on a normal starters workload right away. If both A and B don't happen, I am going to be very disappointed with this organization.

I guarantee you don't have this one......got it from the Dublin Black Sox team in Ireland!

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 03:51 PM) Well of course everybody would, but it wasn't Thornton for Rasmus, it was Sale for Rasmus. Instead, it's a stud reliever who could very easily be a stud starter next year for a stud CF. Oh, and you get the pitcher for like 2 more years than the CF. I'm keeping Sale. Lol, all 120 innings or so? And then all 150 innings or so in 2013, and then all 180 innings or so in 2014? It won't be (or shouldn't be) until 2014 that Sale actually puts up a good sized workload.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) Am I the only who thinks this deal wouldn't get done because the SOX wouldn't want to do it? The dropoff from Buehrle to Harrell is much, MUCH worse than the dropoff from Rasmus to Pierre. Doesn't really make our defense that much better cuz Q is still in right. Plus, there's no way Kenny's trading off a starter at this point in the offseason, no matter how desperate the Cards are (and I don't believe for a minute that STL isn't panicking a little right now). I mean sure, if someone makes a stupid-ridiculous offer that's guaranteed to put us over the top immediately, then sure, Kenny will pull the trigger. But he has an offseason plan and it's very clear that the 5 guys we have are integral to it. I mean, really, are we better off this year with a decent upgrade in the outfield and a giant hole on our pitching staff? I think we're just so offense-starved as a fanbase that we're willing to overlook how important pitching really is. Sale won't even be a reliable starting pitcher in the majors until around 2014 anyway, IF he ever gets the training wheels off to become a starter anyway. EDIT: Just realized you may be referring to the Buehrle-Rasmus trade, not Sale-Rasmus trade.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 24, 2011 -> 01:33 AM) Definitely interesting. But like I've said before (probably 234 times in the last 6 months), with impending FA for Jackson, a Boras client, and Mark, combined with the albatross that could be Jake Peavy's contract through at least 2012 and the fact there's nothing in the pipeline pitching wise that even scenario or jpn could even pretend to get excited about, there's no way we can afford to trade away any cost-controlled pitching. Even if Sale ultimately ends up a set-up man/closer. I dunno, I'd take a stud CF over a stud reliever any day.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Anyone know the broadcast schedule for spring training games? I know there are like 13 games on whitesox.com, but I can't find which games those are. Just wondering what classes I need to skip, or classes I need to bring my laptop to and watch the game all class. lol. -
QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 11:50 PM) I don't think Sale can be traded yet. Yeah, as a PBTNL. But I was more interested in the idea of it, not whether it's possible or would actually happen.

Someone on MLBTR mentioned Sale for Rasmus. That's an interesting trade offer. I'd do it though.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) If you want to be the cutesy nickname guy then you have to accept the fact that I'm not going to take you seriously. I'm just saying, I pointed that s*** out and it was ignored! And I thought ambidankstrious sounded funny too.
-
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 09:56 PM) Because Danks throws with his right hand? How dare you, sir! QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 10:08 PM) Oh right! See, I was the kid who never noticed Link was left-handed either. Someone has to point these things out to me. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) Ambidankstrious.
-
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 09:33 PM) Oh, that looked like Danks to me in the tiny version, so I never clicked it. They both make the same funny underbite face when they pitch. Ambidankstrious.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 09:20 PM) Thanks. Being old it didn't occur to me to look there. I was thinking it was in 1988 as well. I've never seen a ball hit like that before or since. I would love to see a 582 foot shot happen at Wrigley. I imagine it could easily break through someone's living room.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 07:48 PM) Devils are 16-1-2 in their past 19 games. And are still 9 points back of a playoff spot in the East. Man, they were so awful too. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 08:25 PM) I saw a Brewers prospect named Joey Meyer hit a 600 foot shot in Denver when the Denver Zephyrs were the AAA team for the Brewers. I didn't think it was ever going to land. 582 ft according to Wikipedia.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 06:05 PM) I've always associated the NL with fastballs and the AL with breaking balls, but it's not as if that's all you get in either league. Regardless of whether that is right or wrong, Dunn can hit pretty much any pitch. His pitch values per 100 seen (2010, then career) wFB/C - 2.10, 1.75 wSL/C - -0.01, -0.30 (he's had success at different points too) wCT/C - -2.32, 0.44 wCB/C - 0.19, -0.06 wCH/C - -1.39, 0.79 wSF/C - 1.83, 0.13 wKN/C - 2.19, 4.25 He's always been able to hit fastballs, but he has made significant improvements (save 2008) hitting sliders and split-fingers. He has struggled a bit more with the changeup in recent years, but he's generally done fine against it. It would also appear that he does just enough against the curveball that you can't continuously throw it to him. All things considered, Dunn is a great hitter. He's going to do just fine this year. I can't figure out if you are agreeing or disagreeing with me.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 05:50 PM) lmao. I figured either you or Kalapse would come through. I will keep him in mind after every one of Dunn's 45 torpedos. WTF is an NL Only hitter? I mean, I can understand an AL Only hitter because he needs to DH and can't play defense (Jim Thome), but NL Only? WTF?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) Nothing says much improved like a .196 batting average from your 1B and a pitcher with extreme fly-ball tendacies and HR rates in which you can bunt the ball out of the park at times when the wind is blowing out. I'd be shocked if Garza didn't sport an ERA of at least 4.50. Everybody thinks there's automatically this dramatic drop with a switch from the AL to the NL. But Garza was aided by one, a tremendous Tampa defense, and a ballpark that suppresses offense. Should be fun to watch. I think Garza will only regress slightly. I think the AL to NL change will cover most of the park factor.

Just saw an article on ESPNchicago.com that said Ricketts had a meeting with the Cubs and told them all that Chicago is still their town and they need to play like it.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 03:18 AM) So they are equally good for different reasons? (I think you could have made a better comparison...Tecmo Bowl/Tecmo Super Bowl was one of the best NES games of all time) Yea, but the best NES game doesn't even compare to modern day games, but yeah, I understand a lot of people actually like Techmobowl, while no one like 2K baseball. Anyway, I played the demo and I am not sure if I am a fan of the stick controls. I like it for pitching (although it's pretty damn hard when you play against a human), and fielding seems pretty good, but I am not really a fan of hitting. It's not the stick aspect of hitting, because I like that, but's its the whole "press X before the swing for regular swing, O for contact, and [] for power". I don't like how drastic it changes the contact circle to hit with. I'd rather there be no choice of power or contact, and the closer you get to barreling the ball up in the middle of your circle, and your timing on it, it should be a more solid hit.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) I was happy to see him get the tip in at the end yesterday. Hopefully that gets him rolling again, as that would be HUGE> I was just happy to see him back on the ice after he blocked the 8th consecutive shot from the Blues. He seemed to be in a lot of pain, and I figured he was hurt again. He is seriously the Carlos Quentin of the Hawks. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 06:04 PM) Demo is out right now. Be warned: it's 3 GB. It will take a while to download. Yep, I started mine 16 minutes ago and it's at 8%. Extrapolated out, it figures to be a 3 hr, 20 min download.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) There's usually some electronics hobbyists/professionals on the forums who just like to tinker and figure things out. For my car, someone figured out how to reprogram the whole dash and activate features not available on the US models. But it also might be more expensive or more work than it's worth. such as this suggestion I found through random googling: Actually the ecomm error can be corrected quite easliy. This will however require a trip to best buy unless you can find the part online. You'll need a reverse harness to power the factory radio. Then plug that stupid extra plug back in the stock radio and bury the factory radio in the dash. The part # for the reverse harness is 71-7001. All that you have to wire up is constant accy and you'll have to make a ground for the stock radio. Any other questions email me owuld be best since I don't check this too often. That suggestion you found is VERY encouraging since after a little googling myself, I found that everyone was suggesting that same harness. So during my last class, I ordered that 71-7001 from Amazon for $8, and since I am a Prime Member, got free 2-day shipping. I had no idea it would also be my fix for the E COMM error, but this is awesome news. EDIT: Damnit, apparently I bought the 70-7001, and not the 71-7001. Ahhh, oh well, the part about "bury the factory stereo somewhere in the dash" concerned me.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 22, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) I kind of doubt that's fixable. The small display is expecting data from the stereo, and after market stereos aren't like to be programmed to send data to the Galant's computer. That sucks. :/ And I've tried to find some good Galant forums, but I can't find any that are active or have something I am looking for.
