2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 08:42 AM) No power and K's at a rate that would make Adam Dunn point and laugh. He sucks. Never understood the hype to begin with. I was speaking in the sense that if you have ever made it above rookie ball in the minor leagues, you're obviously pretty good at baseball. It's relatively speaking. We all know that kid in high school or college that was such a beast, yet was never even drafted, let alone made it to AAA like Danks.

Top 5 most underrated players in baseball.
Pretty good list, but I would take McCann off the list (he is pretty much known as the 2nd best catcher in baseball), and then put Alexei into the #5 slot. From other sports forums I'm on, you would be surprised how little people think of him and his "ok" defense.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 01:34 AM) Would you say....he's bad at baseball? I'd say he is quite good at baseball, just not good enough.

Brent Morel projection
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 12:11 AM) Damn, nice. Did you just know that off of the top of your head, or did you somehow look that up? Well, I thought of someone I knew who was named Brent, and Brent Abernathy came to mind. Then I looked up what teams he played on, then I searched those teams in Baseball-almanac.com, and looked at the rosters. Sure, it took 5 minutes of looking up, but it was an interesting question. Then I wanted to see how many degrees of Brent I could go to. Brent Butler ended my streak at 3.

And 2001 Rockies. Brent Mayne and Brent Butler.

Brent Morel projection
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 11:55 PM) Will this be the first time two people named Brent will be on the same team? 2003 Royals. Brent Abernathy and Brent Mayne. BOOM.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) Wow. The Yankees think he has something left in the tank. I won't miss him, but I'm also not crazy about Teahen out there. Isn't Danks ready to be a backup outfielder? How come every other sport promotes young guys quickly but not baseball? Let.Danks.Play. I think so did everyone else here too. He was great for us last year, and it would have been awesome to have him back, instead, we are paying Mark Teahen $4.75M to sit on the bench and play awful corner OF defense when Pierre or Quentin need a rest.

Teahen your starter?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 08:44 PM) Even given an understanding of what it refers to...I think "WTF" is totally appropriate.

Teahen your starter?
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) That's what you do before she becomes your wife. After, not so much as you would think/hope. On a honeymoon you do. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 08:38 PM) WTF? See above.

Teahen your starter?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) Any chance Teahen went to camp Cora? I think he went to Camp "Pound his new wife into vaginal submission while his dogs watch", but I could be wrong.

Teahen your starter?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) You don't want to do that. I will unleash more fury. I still can't get over that s***. Don't worry, I am not going to. I'd rather punch myself in the dick.

Teahen your starter?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) And now it has its own thread. Welcome to the off season. Geez, my bad. I didn't realize you were purposly trying to spread the conversation over multiple threads. Can I start another thread for Hudson vs. Jackson too?
-
Teahen your starter?
It's been talked about in 2 threads already. The Brent Morel one, and the Sox Offseasons News one too I think.

Baby crap
QUOTE (3E8 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) Oh my god, that's so damn funny. It reminded me of this Kat William's joke..... Starts at the 2:00 mark, but the whole clip is funny. And obviously NSFW.

2010-11 MLB Offseason Catch-All
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 05:25 PM) Teahen will be fine as a backup 3B, 1B, RF, DH and LH PH. Its really just the contract that was stupid. I can't really hold that against Mark, that's on KW. It's hard to not hate the player though. Because the argument will always be that he needs to play up to his contract, even though it's not fault he was given a contract that he had no chance of actually earning.

Brent Morel projection
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) I'd agree with this, and also on the pronunciation. I think it's as you say, as in the mushroom or as "More Elle (MacPherson)" which BTW is weird because More Elle MacPherson is actually part of our Spring Training 3B depth chart. "Hey, so what's the 3B platoon for today's spring training game?" "Morel-McPherson" "More Elle MacPherson? I agree, she is sexy, I'd love to see more of her"

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) Andruw Jones is now a Yankee making $2M for one year of play and $1.2M in performance bonuses. Son of a b****. He is easily worth that. Mother f***ing Mark Teahen. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKK.

QUOTE (southloopsox @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 10:30 AM) I am President of the newly formed Brent Morel Fan Club I'd fight you for it. I'm not his AAP owner, but I've been following/talking to him since he was in A-ball.

Peavy
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 08:13 PM) How can you say that so definitely? Because of a couple of reports from Cooper saying Jake is 'ahead of schedule' and 'on track'? Used to hear that all the time with Wood and Prior. Not saying Peavy is at that level of injury risk yet. But he's getting there. Just hope for the best but expect something in the middle is my philosophy. I think he is going with the whole "think positive" attitude like what we saw a couple weeks ago with the "Quentin is going to hit 35 home runs and 120 RBI" or whatever people were saying.

Peavy
QUOTE (kevo880 @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) The only way Peavy will miss more than a month of the season is if he gets hurt again. I know I shouldn't expect but I think he's going to be ready to start the season, regardless of what has been said. May 1st is my goal. That's like 4-5 starts to be covered by Sale before he gets sent to AAA.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) The segment about the girl with cancer is probably going to offend many. Yeah, that was hilarious. The Road to 32 to great too. The Toad segment was really awful though.

Armando Galarraga traded to ARZ
QUOTE (joeynach @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) A recent article on southsidesox had handicapped Peavy's start this year at 16. To which I agree, I think assuming he will only miss 6 or 7 starts is very optimistic. The sox have already said they will not rush him back as they did from his achilles injury last time. He wound up being awful and having to go down to AAA for a couple starts, then he came back up and was great. This time around they will be much more patient so I am assuming we need 15 starts from somewhere. Pena is a spot starter so 15 is out of the question for him. Sale maybe, but Cooper has said he wants him to have 1 role and 1 role only. If he starts for Peavy what do you do when Peavy comes back, send him to AAA. If you get Galarraga you can keep Sale in his 1 role only mode. 16 starts? I don't see him missing half the season, especially after how great Coop has said he looks. I've hear Mid-May as a target, and that would be around 6-7 starts if they utilize offdays in April.

Armando Galarraga traded to ARZ
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 08:20 PM) Galarraga would suffice for a 5th starter. And that's about it. And $2.3 is actually pretty decent value for him, however, I wouldn't pay him $2.3M for 6-7 starts.
