2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 06:14 AM) I'm thinking of picking up either a PS3 with the Move or an XBox with the Kinect. Anyone have experience with either and have any suggestions? Just know this..... The technology that is in the Kinect, has been used by Sony for the past 8 years with Playstation EyeToy and now EyeToy2 or whatever it's called. Basically what I'm saying is that Sony could very easily turn the PS3 Move into a Kinect since it already requires a camera, and they have already been making "controller free" games since 2004. So you may as might as well just get the Move, since it's capable of both.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 09:22 AM) I can't wait. I'm going to spring training this year. If you've never been to Camelback Ranch, you'll love it! If you can, try and sneak into the minor league fields in the back. I got to say Hi to Tommy LaSorda and brush shoulders with all the Indians/Dodgers minor leaguers and sit and watch a game next to them. It was surreal.

Bulls success = White Sox payroll?
A couple days ago my Dbacks friend (and Bulls fan) and I were discussing our upcoming seasons. He is obviously miserable over his team, and he questions how the Sox are spending so much damn money. I jokingly brought up that maybe it's because the Bulls are good again and selling out, so Jerry is distributing their money to the Sox. I hate basketball, but admitedly have been rooting for the Bulls recently in the event that this theory is true. My friend argued that there is probably some regulations against such a thing, but I can't see any reason why there should be, or if there is. So I ask you, do you think Bulls revenue gains can/are affect/affecting the Sox payroll increase? Is this even allowed? I mean, since there is a cap in basketball, once you hit that cap, everything else is almost like "extra", right?

Notre Dame looks like men amongst boys in this Sun Bowl vs. Miami. Seriously, it's almost hard to watch, and I'm an ND fan.....

Trivia Q Thread
QUOTE (qwerty @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) Reread what i last said. You were slightly incorrect in how you worded it. For the last out there would have to be a runner off of second base. The fielder, second/short would let the ball drop... for whatever reason i couldn't tell you. The dropped ball could hit the runner either on the fly... or it could fall to the ground and bounce/roll and hit the runner... this is barring he were off base. Lastly, the infield fly ball would have to drop in front of the second/short who fields it, otherwise it would not be an out. Only on a infield fly is a runner not out if they were to get hit by a dropped ball and still stood on first. Runners on 1st and 2nd. 0 outs. Runners stealing on the pitch as batter hits a pop-up in the infield. Infield fly is called, batter is out. Trail runner crosses over 2nd base and continues to run, while the lead runner had stopped on the fly ball and started to run back. Trail runner then passes the lead runner on the bases, making him automatically out, and then the popup hits the other runner in the head, making that runner out as well.

Nope, didn't feel it. Too bad I wasn't back at school in Muncie or I would have felt it for sure.

2010 Fall TV Thread
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Have any of you guys seen the spinoff from Pawn Stars with Rick the restoration guy? I believe it is called American Restoration? Yeah I like it. I am waiting for the day that the Pickers bring something to the Pawn Shop that needs to be taken to the Restoration place.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
Yeah, I'd rather Cora just focus on Morel, Viciedo, Lillibridge, and Alexei. You know, the young INFIELDERS. No need to throw 10 guys at him, half of them not even infielders, and expect him to improve them all. Give him less players, more of his time, and the players he would benefit the most.

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 08:26 AM) It would make no sense to make Peavy seem MORE likely to be ready. If anything, the opposite. No one knows for sure, but from everything I am seeing, I think Peavy pitches in ST and is ready for Opening Day. That said, I am still not sure they'd want to trade a starter, unless they get another high end reliever to replace Sale's current bullpen slot. And I think Joba Chamberlain is capable of this. Then add in Nova, Romine, and Betances.

Buehrle Wins Defensive Play of the Year
I can't believe Scott Merkin wrote this line, but it really made me laugh.... "He made a good play. A really good play," said Marson, winning the unofficial GIBBY for greatest 2010 understatement in a baseball-related category.

Buehrle Wins Defensive Play of the Year
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) It was going to be pretty damn impossible to top that play. Remember when Favre threw that TD pass to Greg Lewis in week 3 vs. 49'ers last year? Totally a better play.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:59 AM) Now you're just rubbing it in. lostfan = Sell your blu-ray player to a dumb friend for $100, and then get the PS3, and you will be actually gaining more value from that $100, and your friend gets a blu-ray player for cheap. Win-Win!

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (forrestg @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 02:40 AM) If the yankees lode Pettite to retirement I think they'll inquire about another lefty, Buehrle maybe. Perhaps wishfull thinking but that extra cash could allow us a few more options. I don't think there is any chance in hell Buehrle accepts a trade to the Yankees. He seems to care more about his family and playing where he wants to play more than money. If it was about the money, we wouldn't be hearing about him retiring all the time.

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 02:16 AM) Cooper -- in a totally dick move, IMO -- mentioned on the radio today that Peavy looks great and may be ready for Spring Training. Yeah, he said Spring Training, he's probably wrong and is getting my hopes up just to have them dashed when he actually returns in June but the man did use the words "Spring Training". I don't think anyone knows when the hell he'll be back, anybody who takes a guess (aside from Coop, perhaps since he's the one witnessing Peavy's throwing first hand) is talking out their ass because no pitcher has ever experienced this injury as far as I know. Yeah, and in Coop's comments last week about Jake's progress, he said he could be "ready to go", which I took as meaning "ready for opening day". I think with Coop's optimistic comments, it's certainly plausible that Peavy could be back by May 1st, which I believe means only 4 starts if the 5th starter is skipped during off-days, and 6 starts if no one is skipped. So 4-6 starts if he returns in May, and Coop suggests he could be ready for Spring Training. I am saying that either way, I think we will be ok with dumping Danks/Floyd to the Yankees for Gardner + prospects or Nova/Joba + prospects.

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:55 AM) I read that Peavy could miss half of the season. Best case scenario would be early May. So maybe 15 starts then. I didn't do the math. I read that Peavy was 3 weeks or so ahead of schedule, and best case scenario would be early April.

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:57 AM) Didn't you? Danks for the Yankees package. First and foremost I want a package around Gardner, but I also said I would love the suggested package of Joba, Nova, Romine, and Betances. Those are 2 prospects (both top prospects), and 2 good looking arms that can both start, but Joba is looking more like a bullpen arm. 2 of the 4 are (top) prospects, and the other 2 are guys that would immediately impact the 2011 team.

Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:44 AM) Yeah, I covet MLB the Show and I kick myself in the ass for buying a stand-alone Blu-Ray player last year and not coughing up the extra $100 for a PS3 last year. I had the money, too. I deserve to be mocked for this dumbass decision. Basically.

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 01:07 AM) Teams that invest in Dunn and Konerko and Crain don't trade dependable starters for prospects. Its counterintuitive. You dump for kids if you are going that way, you just pushed the chips in the middle of the table. And this nonsense of the patchwork 5th starter is just insane. You obviously don't remember the 5th starter by committe garbage we had with Danny Wright and company. Sale is barely removed from being drafted. Let him stretch it out a bit and learn in the pen. Lets hedge our bets on what is really there. Not some mythical unicorn sighting. Who is suggesting we dump starters for prospects?

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 11:20 PM) This is why short sample sizes suck. We're f***ed if Pena has to make 20+ starts. Where are you getting 20+ starts from? That would mean Peavy is out until what, the all-star break?

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) But, still, as of now, Sale has not started a game as a professional, and Pena is not any good. I think Pena is good enough to be a 5th starter for 5-6 games. He pitched 4 games last year of 6 IP or more. 25 IP, 28 H, 13 ER, 6 BB, 12 K, 1 HR, 4.68 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 4.32 K/9, 2.16 BB/9 Those are perfectly acceptable numbers for a 5th starter.

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 08:36 PM) We have four returning starters healthy. Buehrle, Jackson, Danks and Floyd. Buehrle, Jackson, Danks, Floyd, Sale, and Pena (temp).

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) really? do you really count Sale and Pena as starters? if we trade away say Danks, our rotation w/o peavy would be Floyd, EJax, Buerhle, Sale, Pena... yuck Yes. Sale is definitely a starter, and Pena CAN and has been a starter, certainly for the 5-6 starts or so until Peavy comes back. And besides, this is assuming that no starter would be coming back in the trade. If it is indeed the Yankees to get Danks, it's not unlikely we could receive Nova in a deal.

Teixeira: Pettitte Leaning Toward Retirement
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 29, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) The White Sox do not have 5 starters right now. No way they get rid of one. White Sox currently have 6 healthy starters, with a 7th in Jake Peavy returning hopefully by May. The problem is not shortage of starters, but rather a shortage of relievers.
