  1. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) Don't forget the Twins are "adding" Morneau and Nathan. Ok, adding Nathan, yes. But not Morneau. He played half the season.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) To which they've added DeJesus, Willingham, and Hideki Matsui, in addition to getting Crisp back to start the year. Still wouldn't even put them in the top 15.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 02:44 PM) The A's had the best pitching staff in the AL last year. That's a good starting point. Yeah, and maybe the worst offense in baseball.
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 24, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) Yahoo Sports MLB Power Rankings from December 23 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ti-powerrankings122310 So we add Dunn and drop?? And the Twins are fifth despite no Pavano and no bullepn? Too much eggnog from the writer? Lol, they lost.... Pavano, Guerrier, Crain, Thome, Hardy, Harris, Cabrera, and Punto, right? And the only person they've added is some Japanese SS, right?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) Defensively yes, offensively? Clearly no. An outfield with Quentin in it may be slightly better offensively than one with Gardner in it, but the defensive difference is earth shattering. You are talking about swapping out one of the worst defensive OF in baseball for one of the best defensive OF in baseball. Those are opposite ends of the spectrum. We are talking a -33 UZR/150 vs. a +28 UZR/150. A difference of 61 UZR/150. There is NO bigger gap between two starters at any position than Quentin and Gardner in terms of UZR/150, and I am not even sure if there has been a larger one in the history of UZR/150.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) Besides, it makes no sense for the Sox to take Gardner if they can't dump Pierre onto the Yankeesz. Why? I'd rather have a Pierre-Gardner-Rios OF than a Gardner-Rios-Quentin OF, wouldn't you?
  7. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) I understand his skill set. I'm just not a fan of trading a very solid proven SP who is cheap, for a player that has had one very solid season for the Yankees with so much talent around him. I wouldn't trade Gavin or Danks straight up for Gardner either. But I would love to make a package around Gardner.
  8. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) Must have something to do with the batter passing up the runners on base. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) I'd assume an infield fly rule as well. Both of you are on the right track.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) See, I wouldn't have said Cincy if I cheated. lol, I guess that settles it.
  10. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) I don't think I'll ever get the Gardner love and why some people are so set on trading Floyd for him. I am a fan of his awesome speed, awesome defense, awesome base-stealing ability, and awesome on-base skills. Pretty good reasons to want a 27-year-old CF if you ask me.
  11. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 06:33 PM) Yanks interested in bringing back Johnny Damon. Hmmm... could this mean that they are about to part with Curtis Granderson or Brett Gardner in a deal for Floyd or Jackson??
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) That s*** was on Sportscenter like last week. Lol, no way. Really? Ok here is another..... Explain the scenario in which a ball is hit, and 3 outs are recorded without the defense ever touching the ball, or the ball touching the ground.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:40 AM) Joel Youngblood Cheater!
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:40 AM) It's going to be really interesting to see what happens with Pettite. He's figuratively got the Yankees by their collective nuts right now. I just can't see them going into '11 with two of Nova, Mitre or Brackman. Not with their expectations, payroll, ect. Cashman is doing the correct thing in acting all cool, calm and collected. But they put all their eggs in the Lee basket and now they're kinda f***ed. I think if Pettite retires they're going to make a move. And you best believe KW will be in the picture. Maybe not Danks. But Jackson or Floyd for sure. I agree.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:21 AM) You would obviously shoot for Montero. But if said package was proposed I don't know how you don't run with it. But this is pretty meaningless. It was a random idea by a random fan on a message board. The thing about Montero is that I don't think any deal around Montero could improve the 2011 team. If it was Montero +, then that extra player would be some lower level minors guy I would assume. I'd rather take the lesser of their catching prospects if it meant we were to add to our 2011 club (Joba and Nova).
  16. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 02:47 AM) I won't trade our best SP for any package that doesn't include Montero. In addition to him being our best SP (jury still out on Peavy) he's also a lefty, only 25, has gotten better every year in the majors and has the type of stuff that ages well. By that I mean that he doesn't have some funky pitching motion and he doesn't throw pure power stuff so he has the potential to be successful for the next 10+ years because he mixes pitches well, changes speeds and has that bulldog mentality needed for long term success. Considering all that, I wouldn't give him up without getting a BIG name prospect in return and Montero is that guy if we're talking the yankees. Danks is also going to be pricey, and I am no so sure we will be able to retain him. Every piece coming back (Joba, Romine, Nova, and Betances) is something this team needs. Catching prospect? Check. Solid reliever? Check. Decent 5th start to fill in before Peavy comes back? Check. And then you add in Betances who is a huge 22-year-old righty who tops out at 98MPH with a plus-plus fastball, with a plus-curveball, and a good-enough change-up. At 2 levels last year, he had 108 Ks to 22 BB (4.91 K/BB) in 85 IP. That's an 11.4 K/9 and a 2.3 BB/9 with a 0.88 WHIP. Those are pretty awesome numbers for a 22-year-old.
  17. Looking over at NYYfans.com, and they really value Danks highly.... here are some offers I have seen proposed.... Romine, Joba, Nova, and Noesi Romine, Joba, Nova, and Betances (someone said no way, and someone else said the Sox won't take that deal) Montero, Nova, Betances
  18. Who is the only player to record a hit for 2 different teams in 2 different cities in the same day?
  19. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) Danks for Nova, Romine, Joba, and Betances was a trade someone mentioned over at nyyfans.com, and i was wondering what you guys thought of the trade. It looks pretty solid to me, esp. if they kick in more for joba or even better Floyd gets all that. Nova I think is gonna be a stud in this league, solid numbers in AAA (12-3 2.86 era) and then he only really got roughed up twice in in 7 starts in the bigs. Hed fit into the rotation nicely. Romine is a really good catching prospect and with everyone down on tyler flowers and aj getting up there in age, i think 2 years from now romine will be able to step up and be our starter if tyler doesnt step up first. Joba could very well be our closer this year. Betances put up an 8-1 record with a 1.77 era in AA last year. Would Floyd or Jackson get that??? Are they not giving us enough??? Would Danks get us montero??? Does The trade make sense seeing as were going all in and trading a starter for a lesser starter, 2 prospects, and a RH reliever??....If the sox are convinced joba can and will be the closer that makes it a lil more interesting. When Healthy Peavy Buehrle Jackson Danks Nova Pena RH SantosRH CrainRH Sale LH ThorntonLH JobaRH you save money to where you can sign a Brian Fuentes I then make a huge trade involving CQ, Santos, Dayan for an OF bat..i think Infant can give you the same kind of stuff sergio did, dayan has no spot on the team, and CQ is a horrible Rfer...i think that package could get us maybe a bj upton or somethin big like that and call it an offseason I would do that trade in a HEARTBEAT.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) MLB Network, Fangraphs and Baseball Reference are the three greatest things to happen to baseball fans this century. I love Baseball Cube too.
  21. Does Chris Sale still have his "rookie" status? I am pretty sure he didn't accumulate 45 days on the team prior to Sept. 1st, and he didn't go over 50 innings. Just making sure he is, so I can start predicting ROY.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) Santana, Sabathia, Lee, Greinke. All Cy Young award winners, AL Central, lefties. Maybe it's good Buehrle didn't win the Cy Young? I'm pretty sure Greinke started pitching with right-hand recently. Probably the reason for his success.
