  1. I just heard Rick Hahn on with Rongey. He mentioned they are tapped out on salary, and a trade is possible if they are going to beef up the bullpen. Obviously he didn't mention anyone by name, but reading between the lines, I think Quentin is a goner if they can find a trade partner.
  2. Like the deal. Surprised it's that reasonable, and I'm optimistic they'll be able to add on without subtracting major league players.
  3. I heard the Levine interview, and the way I heard it was that one of the teams was told they are out of it. My guess is that it's the DBacks because they were trying to get a true hometown discount and couldn't go any further with money. I'm not doubting the Sox will close this deal, but I don't think his agent is closing up shop just yet.
  4. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) Bruce Levine said a few mins ago. That Konerko will agree to a new deal today. Also that other teams were told not to bid anymore. Some teams, or a team. Not all teams. I think it's probably Arizona that's completely out now.
  5. If Reinsdorf is overpaying Konerko, I hope he in turn extends out the budget so they can actually get a bullpen, and not be forced to trade Floyd and/or Quentin. This signing won't be something to celebrate until we actually know what the roster is looking like going into February.
  6. I think this thing ends today. I don't care either way if it's Konerko or Lee. Konerko- Happy for sentimental reasons. He's been here 12 years. Glad he'll be around for 2-3 more years. Lee- Probably the better baseball decision if it's one year. He'll be cheaper, which gives them more money for other needs, and they get two draft picks for losing Konerko. Truthfully, if given the choice, I'm leaning a lot more toward Lee, but we don't even know if that's on the table.
  7. I hope Kenny/Jerry stay strong here. Don't do anything dumb. 3 years/$45 mil guaranteed would be beyond stupid.
  8. So to recap the likely non-roster invitees so far: RHP- Brian Bruney, Josh Kinney, Jeff Gray 3B- Dallas McPherson OF/1B- Daryle Ward
  9. It's going to be awesome when Beckham is at the all-star game next year.
  10. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) If this really is the case then D.Lee should with out a doubt be option A but that apparently isn't happening. If we bring PK back we're about to have to get real freakin creative. I agree. Don't get me wrong, I want Konerko back. But the bullpen needs a lot of work. I'm not nuts about Chris Sale being the closer, and I really don't like the idea of Matt Thornton of being the closer.
  11. QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 10:30 AM) With Dunn & Konerko hitting some where in the middle of the order wouldn't you want a good fastball hitter, like say Ramirez, hitting in front of them? Whoever hits in front of those really has no excuse not to have a monster year. Ramirez needs to prove he can hit in April first. He hasn't done it in 3 years. At least to start the year, I think he needs to be down in the order, and see if Beckham can finally reach his potential.
  12. I don't think Beckham is ready to bat 3rd, but they need to have him give the 2-spot another shot. I don't want to see him batting 8th or 9th all year. When it's all said and done, I hope it's: Pierre, Beckham, Rios, Dunn, Konerko, Quentin, Ramirez, Pierzynski, Morel
  13. Dunn on with B&B in a minute.
  14. I think Dunn takes #45. Hopefully he'll hit that many homers too.
  15. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 11:43 AM) OK, since I'm too lazy to look it up in this monster thread....what are we looking at, payroll wise? I'm assuming the hopes are that we find a way to get PK back at first, and say goodbye to Jenks. They're close to $100 million now, and that's before Quentin, Danks, and Pena. If they sign Konerko, they'll be around $120-$125 . Big-city baseball team.
  16. Doesn't Freddy have to sign with the White Sox first?
  17. I like the Dunn signing assuming it will happen. I just hope it means they don't have to dump pitching to afford him. Or settle for Tyler Flowers at catcher.
  18. Josh Phegley had his spleen removed Nov. 5. http://www.chicagobreakingsports.com/2010/...en-surgery.html
  19. Yeah, Quentin is a liability in RF, but that's all we got right now. De Aza might be a decent defensive replacement if he makes the roster.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 1, 2010 -> 12:29 AM) Yuk. If those two guys are regulars for our Sox, we may be in for a last place campaign ... unless our pitching simply dominates. If the Sox signed Matsui and Pena and also got AJ back, I could live with this lineup: Pierre, Beckham, Rios, Matsui, Quentin, Pena, Ramirez, Pierzynski, Morel. There's some potential there, and the infield defense is real good. And they can do it without giving up starting pitching.
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 30, 2010 -> 07:46 PM) Do you mean 2 more years at 12 million each year? Yes. Just two more guaranteed years at what he's made the last 5 years. $24 mil, plus an option for $12 in 2013.
  22. Maybe it'll happen next week, but it's surprising there haven't been any real offers made public for PK. It's too bad the Sox couldn't get him to come back for 2 more years at $12, and an option for a third. If he can do better, he should take it.
  23. The Sox should try to get one-year deals with Carlos Pena and Hideki Matsui and try to catch lightning in a bottle. If it doesn't work, dump everyone next July. This organization is a mess right now.
