Man I hope they just freakin’ figure it out and declare victory…both sides. Let’s go! We need trades and signings and see some games soon!

2022 Offseason Plan Thread
When David Ortiz got in the Hall and I was looking at his stats, the thought crossed my mind that it’s too bad Eloy doesn’t want to just play “bad ass hitter” until he’s 40. He’d probably hit 600 homers and be sitting on stage with him someday.

See, I’m the opposite. I wouldn’t be against best of 3 in the wildcard, best of 5 in DS and CS; and make the World Series the only best of 7. The long series means it gives the casual fan more reason to tune out until the series is 2-2 if it gets there.

No offense to Chuck, but there are no great 14 team postseason ideas. Best they can do with 6- worst division winner win total plays the 6-seed and the other two play each other in a single game elimination. After that, the remaining worst regular season record plays the division winner with the highest win total. If ties, don’t pair up teams from same division if possible.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
That would mean no TV show where teams pick opponents and fewer playoff games, so that won’t happen. I will say…if they sell their soul and go to 14, I will watch less regular season baseball, and won’t watch the postseason until LCS if I feel the teams that are in, deserve to be there…meaning good regular season win totals. They add inventory, I’ll watch less. Period.

Hoping this is more of a small market vs big market owner thing and they can come to some level of discomfort soon that they have to make a deal to get spring training going sometime in March. Everyone has too much to lose if they lose a quarter of the season.

Traditionalist or Radical
I don’t think the shift should be applicable to a certain hitter. That’s fundamentally unfair to him. Rules have to be uniform to everyone. I’m on the side of just making the fielders play in zones on the dirt. Maybe have a 15 foot circumference around second base that fielders can’t be, so a bullet up the middle is a hit again or we actually see good defense.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
We really don’t know how the win totals will shake out until it’s implemented and some teams choose not to be sellers at the deadline, or how they build their teams in the offseason to begin with. I’m hopeful six in each league won’t be a huge deal. Seven in each league is hot garbage.

Hope to see the photos on the roster pages reappear like in Back to the Future…and then Kimbrel traded by Friday.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
They’re prepared to negotiate late tonight, so I guess that’s a good thing. It would be pretty wild if they got it done and the next 10 days is nothing but free agent signings and trades. Who knows what GMs have been talking about trade-wise…there could be some wild 3-4 team trades.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
I’m starting to look at this season as 1981 that won’t be a split season. If they start around Memorial Day (which means settling by the end of April), I’ll hate it, but I’ll watch. As soon as this season becomes fewer than 100 games, I’m out. Won’t watch, won’t care if the Sox win the World Series. It’ll be a non-season for me. Hopefully they (owners and players) start hearing the fans and they figure it out soon. I’d be very pleased to see some good news this weekend, or Monday.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
Because it makes 162 largely meaningless. There are no great wins or crushing losses that may catch up to you at the end of the season because if you’re in at 81 wins or out 80 wins, are you really that good anyway? More than likely, your season will be over in 5 days. The final weekend with the Red Sox, Mariners, Blue Jays, and Yankees…meaningless to the baseball fan without a rooting interest. They’re all in. No drama. They have it right now. 5 of 15 in each league is good. 6 of 16 someday would be acceptable. It’s supposed to be a big deal to make the playoffs in baseball. Now it won’t be.

2022 Hall of Fame ballot - Ortiz in; Bonds/Clemens NOT
Next year’s ballot is much thinner- may be a good opportunity for Buehrle to bounce back. Rolen, Helton, Wagner, Jones, Sheffield, A Rodriguez, Kent, M Ramirez, Vizquel, Pettitte, Rollins, Abreu, Buehrle, Hunter, Beltran (and if you want to at least discuss Lackey and Francisco Rodriguez). That’s it. Tim Hudson fell off. Teixeira, Nathan, Lincecum didn’t get 5%.

2022 Hall of Fame ballot - Ortiz in; Bonds/Clemens NOT
Hopefully Ortiz gets in if only to get him off the ballot. We can debate all day whether he deserves to be in, but for me, the line was after testing with penalties, and then especially post-Mitchell Report. Cano, Braun, Manny, Arod…not ever.

2022 Hall of Fame ballot - Ortiz in; Bonds/Clemens NOT
Jon Morosi and I usually pick HOF very similarly. He has Ortiz, Jones and Sheffield. I have Hudson, Hunter, and Helton. Otherwise, the same. I really haven’t been following the tracking that much this time around. I guess Ortiz making it wouldn’t be awful, but it’s going to be close. I could see him being a second year pick. He’s really the only one with a chance of making it. January 25 will be announcement night.
