Not knowing the rule was an organizational failure. You can’t know something you were never told. I’m not saying Tony was never told pitchers don’t have to run in extras...I don’t know. But somebody in that dugout needs to speak up if they knew. Or better yet, before they even go to Cincinnati, somebody in the front office reminds the coaching staff of the rule in case it happens. It’s like a 1st base coach reminding a runner how many outs there are. The runner should know, but just in case, you tell him. That was Sox organizational failure.
