Just gotta keep winning. Might take 87-88 wins. Something to keep an eye on is if the Brewers fall out of it before the Sox go to San Diego. Padres may not be motivated to win the 5-seed and have to face the Mets or Braves.
I support individuality off the field- you do you. I also think there’s value in looking like a team on the field, so if there were uniform color rules, I’d be all for it. Guess that makes me a bad guy.
I’d just be happy if the Sox go 14-7 the next 21, and then whatever it takes vs the Twins the final series. Hopefully the Twins will be eliminated, and the Sox eek it out in the end vs Cleveland.
Magic Number Standings- The Race to Zero
Guardians- Min 26/ Sox 25
Twins- Cle 29/ Sox 26
White Sox- Cle 28/ Min 26
Guardians number will go down by 3 next time they beat the Sox.
Guardians have to go 4-4 to clinch tiebreaker vs Twins
Sox have to go 4-2 vs Twins to clinch tiebreaker
I might not say the same thing with 3 months left. With 4 weeks left, all this talent, and having to be 3 games better the Guardians, they should be pumped to show up everyday to win and thank god they’re in a shitty division that will give them a home playoff series if they finish with the 7th best record in the AL.
If the Sox players can’t stay motivated to win the next four weeks with or without Tony, then screw all of them. Sure he may make stupid mistakes that lead to losses, but if the “mojo” is lost because Grandpa is back, then they’re a mentally weak team that isn’t making the ALCS anyway. Just go win games. Play good baseball for yourselves.
If the Sox lose and the Guardians win tonight, that would shut down any more viewing of Sox games until they’re 2 back again. This season will be a slow death the next four weeks…but they will die- probably in San Diego, which is lovely.
If we’re to assume Cle will win one of the four games against the Sox to clinch a tiebreaker, and go 14-13 in the other 27 games…the Sox would have to go 18-7 their other 25 games to beat them. Not good.
From a Seattle perspective, these are big games for them too. They’re going for the 4-seed and a home series. And if they drop to the 6-seed, would they rather go to Minnesota or Cleveland and avoid Cease, Cueto, and Lynn on the road? Of course.
