  1. All of the Tigers fans I know are pretty excited about this move. The Huge Show (mid-Michigan's version of the Afternoon Saloon) spent a lot of time on it too. Everyone seems to have such high hopes. Looks like I'll be seeing more Tigers games this year. Can't wait to see Miggy at 3b hahaha.
  2. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 10:33 AM) I think of the Smackdown title as the new version of the Intercontinental championship. It seems as though that's how they also think of it. I used to view Smackdown as today's IC caliber but view Randy Orton as a WC caliber wrestler. It was obvious when Edge retired and Orton was drafted to Smackdown that he was going there to be the champion. I think everyone saw that coming. I just don't see anyone else at his caliber in Smackdown though so its kind of sad. I really wanted Santino to go to Smackdown to get more airtime too (not saying he's a star, he's just my favorite). If it was up to me (and I know its not), I'd have the following titles: WC, IC, tag team, TV, and cruiserweight. I am sure I am much more of a traditionalist (relative to wrestling at its peak) than todays audience. Riley! Randy! Riley! Randy! Jimmy! I'm really enjoying R Truth lately. I know he's meant to come off as crazy but he's become very entertaining to me.
  3. QUOTE (T R U @ May 20, 2011 -> 11:35 PM) Ugh, one of the main things I miss about wrestling is there arent "characters" anymore.. most people these days just go by their name I agree 100%. I feel like the creativity just isn't there right now. I also miss different factions and the two the WWE currently utilizes suck (Corre and Nexus). As long as I can remember, there has been great factions: Ted DiBiase and the Million Dollar Corporation, The Hart Foundation, The Task Master Kevin Sullivan and the Dungeon of Doom, Raven and the Flock, the NWO, DX, The Nation of Domonation, The Blue Bloods, The Ministry of Darkness, the list goes on and on. I didn't watch much wrestling for a couple years and now I've come back, I miss what factions add to wrestling.
  4. I'm watching Raw an hour into it so five minutes after I posted Santino was my favorite the knucklehead won for the first time in seemingly ages! Hahaha too funny! COBRA!!!
  5. I'm not going to lie, R Truth made me laugh today. For some reason I've enjoyed the crazy R Truth. Too many of the title contenders have the same type of personalities to me, really outside of John Cena, none of them are funny (I don't find The Miz too funny). Although, for the case of full disclosure, Santino is my favorite wrestler haha. I'm not surprised Andy won Tough Enough. I can see Luke and Jeremiah (sp?) being teamed together to be two "wild and crazy guys." You couldn't have done that if Luke won.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 28, 2011 -> 10:24 PM) When you have Julius Peppers on one side, you don't need a super athlete on the other. You just need someone good enough. You can never use too many talented guys. I liked the risk/reward considering Angelo is the one drafting anyways.
  7. I know Bowers has a knee problem but I was rooting for him at 29.
  8. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) Glad Duke, Kentucky, Kansas and MSU all agreed to meet each other for the next couple of years. MSU is overrated every year, but they end up winning the big ten, and do good in March which is all that matters, right? Either way, I really don't like MSU this year at all. I think saying MSU was overrated coming into this season is a stretch. They were coming off back-to-back Final Fours returning Lucas (former B10 player of the year), Green, Lucious, Roe and Summers. Not to mention incoming freshmen in Appling (McDonald's All-American) and Payne (a highly thought of recruit). Chris Allen is a big loss (transfered to Iowa State amid rumors of an incident with Summers as well as sleeping with teammate(s) gfs). He was their best defender and shooter. While the six final fours are great, saying wait until March can blow too. I remember a Davis, Brown, Ager and Tolbert team that lost to Kirk Snyder and Nevada my freshman year then the team that lost to George Mason my junior year. Two first round tourny exits as well as a second round loss to Memphis (never happen now thanks to DRose haha) mixed in. This year just feels different. Izzo is used to having strong leadership on his teams however their best player isn't a leader (Lucas) nor is their second best player (Summers). Green is but he has to get that "point forward" crap out of his head when he has two terrific point guards. You can make a case Lucious is a leader (lead them to the FF last year) but he's still a backup on this team. There seem to be a lot of issues and this team could easily blow up on Izzo. Go Green!
  9. Looks like they'll still cover but wow, what a bad first half for Illinois.
  10. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Nov 29, 2010 -> 08:52 PM) I'm pretty sure Va tech and Nevada are both better teams than Iowa. Iowa lost to Minnesota and Northwestern. Sorry, but they just aren't very good this year. Don't forget, VT lost to James Madison who had loses to Deleware, New Hampshire, Villanova, UMass and Richmond. Simply saying VT is better because Iowa lost to a good Northwestern team (before Persa got hurt) and Minnesota (alright, they do suck but would beat James Madison IMHO) isn't really sound reasoning. Northwestern was getting better before Persa hurt his achilles. They easily could have beaten MSU and Penn State (giving up huge leads). VT benefited from a relatively easy schedule. Which would you rather face: #5 Wisconsin, #6 Ohio State, #8 Michigan State, Arizona and Penn State or #11 Boise State, #21 Florida State (who they play next week) and Miami?
  11. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 28, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) I don't think he was touched... He was touched though. On his knee while he was on his back.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Nov 27, 2010 -> 09:54 AM) Damn, you guys are motivating me. I remember in college thinking I will never allow myself to get out of running shape. Seventy+ pounds later, I am. I keep thinking I need to get down to some reasonable weight before running. Diet and walking have me down to 205 from 226. I've been planning on starting to run when my weight loss levels off. I wouldn't wait until your weight loss levels off. I would supplement your weight loss with a run/walk program. I think if you can even get fifteen minutes of running and walking a day in, you're find you have more energy and you'll crave healthier foods. That would help to magnify your weight loss. Why wait?
  13. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) Since junior year of high school, I started running after school on my own on a route without keeping track of time or distance, but it was safe to say I did about 40 minutes. I run five days a week for cardio and to stay in shape so the distance is irrelevant to me. In 2009, I completed the Chicago Marathon after running the 20 mile run along the lake front and several 10 mile runs at Waterfall Glen and 5ks at the Jim Bonfield Run in Downers Grove on Thanksgiving Day. I imagine that I finish 5ks in 20-25 minutes, 10 miles at 1:21.48 and my marathon time was 4:00.32. EDIT: How often do you buy new shoes, what makes you want the shoes (light on your feet, good feeling, good mileage), and what brand do you like best?) I personally wear Nike Lunaracers II. IMHO they are the best running shoe made. The originals were introduced for the Beijing Olympic Marathon. They are one of the lightest shoes on the market. The logic behind them is since they're so light, say you make 5,000 steps in a race, picking up an extra 3 grams per step in a different shoe adds up over the course of a race. The second edition are slightly heavier (roughly 5.5 grams to 7.something grams). They use Nike's Flywire support so if you need a lot of arch support or need to protect over pronation, they're not a good choice. In my case, I have a neutral gait so they are perfectly built for me. As for the distance, I have always heard roughly 300 miles you should get a new pair of shoes. The more you run, the more expensive that gets. Races alone I have over 100 miles on the pair I bought in June with probably 400 to 500 miles. I put off getting a new pair (pure laziness) but I will actually be buying a new pair next week. I can feel that my current pair are on their last legs.
  14. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Nov 25, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) Finished the racing year with a 20:23 in Buffalo Grove's Frozen Turkey 5K, one second off my racing PR. I still have never achieved the sub-20 5K in a race, but I know I have it in me and will get it soon. Definitely a big, successful year for me, running races in 9 of the 12 months, including my first four half-marathons and marathon. This definitely isn't a bucket list sport for me; I look forward to getting better and achieving more in the next year! My sister ran the Frozen Turkey and she said it was way too cold. She's a high school XC runner and has run a few halfs and other races with me this year so I trust her opinion on the weather. To come that close to a PR when you're lungs probably exploded, good race. She said her lungs still hurt well after the race.
  15. Each wrestler at Michigan State gets to pick the song that plays right before they wrestling (roughly one-minute). While I never made my way into the starting lineup, I know what song I would have picked: "The Legend of the Wooley Swamp" by the Charlie Daniels Band.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 22, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) We are literally just about to release our Top 25 as well. We'll post it here and on the FS ChicagoNow site. I'm not patient enough!!
  17. Knocked out a 1:28:45 half on a long course (13.25 miles; issue was a turnaround was farther than it should have been, we were talking to the guy who ran it after. Everyone's Garmins read between 13.25 and 13.28 miles).
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 6, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) Fun game to watch. As good as Vic Koenning has been as def coordinator at Illinois this year he did a pathetic job today. Michigan's offense is good but he didn't make a single adjustment the entire game today. Also, the lack of balls shown by Zook today on 4th down plays was disgusting. When you are doing whatever you want offensively and you have 4th and less than a yard to put the game away you f***ing go for it. I was in the UM student section for the game and it was such an awesome game to see even though my horse (State) wasn't in the race. I was definitely surprised how little the UofI fans traveled. There was just a tiny little section of orange.
  19. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 03:47 PM) Solid time, bud. This was probably my last race in 20-24 age class, and seeing the times--I could've destroyed my competition, before moving into the always tight 25-29 group. I ran this one with my girlfriend, so I wasn't going hard at all. This was her first race, and she did a great job--considering where she started from. I had her start a couch to 5K program a couple of months ago that she rocked. Her goal was to make sure she ran the whole race, and I didn't want her to experience any kind of disappointment in her first one. She did really, really well, and she's definitely hooked and a runner now. Being that I didn't get to do it in the race, I pushed myself to a 19:47 5K run yesterday. Felt really good to do, as I've only gone sub-20 a few times (all in training). I can't wait to achieve that in a race, as I know I have it in me. I just have to want it enough on race day. Too bad I didn't know you were doing this one; it'll be cool to run into you at one of these in the future. And thanks guys on the support; it's always appreciated. My girlfriend ran her first race in years at the Hustle. She was nice enough to let me run hard, I just had to hustle back and run with her after I finished. All in all, I knocked out about five miles. We were the people in blue sweatshirts with the letters F, *, $, K and !. We chose to tone it down a little for the kids and had a late addition in the !. I was the F but I wore last years Chi Mar shirt during the part I raced then put the sweatshirt on when I ran with the girlie.
  20. I dropped the ball on this one. I was at the Halloween Hustle too. How did it go? I ran a 19:21. Went out a little too fast and my lungs burned for a good chunk of the second and third miles.
  21. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) TCU is going to have to win at Utah a top 10 team (atm). Boise will have to win at Nevada barely top 25. If TCU and Boise go undefeated, you have to give the nod to TCU. I agree with you sir. Even take it a step farther.. If Utah and Boise State both win out, I think Utah would be ranked ahead of Boise State. Wins over an improving Iowa State, an undefeated #4 TCU, and serviceable teams in Pitt, ND, San Diego State and Air Force would trump Boise State beating an up and down Oregon State and VT. One more thought: people are overlooking that Baylor is ranked 25th and VT is ranked 23rd. In addition, if Baylor can stay hot, they would shoot up the rankings. Baylor will see Texas, Oklahoma State, Texas AM and Oklahoma the final four weeks. Win some of those games and they'll end up being a massive win for TCU. VT can only really improve themselves with a win over Miami (Fla) and Oregon State is a push since both beat them. Edit: Please note I forgot to include Hawaii in a quality win for Boise State (if they beat them). Hawaii did beat Nevada after all.
  22. What do you guys play? I have had pretty good success this playoff season but I tend to try and avoid baseball (had big runs with Zambrano and Brett Myers this year though). I went 5-3 yesterday with (followed up a 7-2 on Saturday) one of the wins being a par on ATL and CLE. It was about time, I had losing weeks two out of the last three (pushed the other week thanks to the Patriots special team star Chung singlehandidly giving me a par on the Pats and the over versus the Dolphins to save my week. I played a par on NYG and the over for tonight. What are you guys thinking?
  23. Greasy, whats your racing schedule look like? Mine is: The Mid-Land Half Marathon (13.1): 11/13/10 Midland MI Martian Invasion of Races 2011 (26.2): 4/02/11 Dearborn MI Bayshore Marathon (26.2): 5/28/11 Traverse City MI Midland Community Center's Dow RunWalk (10k): 6/04/11 Midland MI Charlevoix Marathon: 6/25/11 Charlevoix MI (tentatively) Whirlpool Ironman 70.3 Steelhead: 8/14/11 Benton Harbor MI Chicago Marathon (26.2): 10/11/11 Chicago IL (fun run, going to help my little sister through her first marathon) Some shorter races and tris thrown in too.
  24. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Sep 25, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) 15 days. Bested my Indy-Mini PR by almost 2.5 minutes, finishing a half in my hometown this morning at 1:32:15. Tapertastic. Got you by a smidge! Ran a 1:32:12 at the Detroit half on October 17th. I was sub-7s through twelve miles but I fell apart on the last mile. I just didn't have it in my legs after the Chicago Marathon the weekend before.
  25. Not sure if you have all read but Andy Schleck has been implicated in "Drugs for Hugs." Not a good month for cycling. I sure hope both Andy and AC come out clean. With Team Luxo starting next year and AC heading to Saxo, this could be one awesome season.
