  1. My question to everyone who thinks Boise State should be ranked #1. Please answer some of these but please don't just say "because Boise is better:" -Do you think their offense could score 60+ on Oregon or stop the Oregon offense from scoring at will? I know Boise beat Oregon last year but this Oregon team is just on a different level offensively than the rest of the country. Their pace of play is unbelievable. -How would they shut down Newton, Dyer, McCalebb and Fanin from Auburn? Dyer is a freshman and has gotten better each game. Newton may have just had his Heisman moment last weekend. This team put up over 400 rushing yards against LSU. I know some of you don't believe in LSU but their defense has been pretty good and LSU did beat Mississippi State, Florida, North Carolina and West Virginia. -The Virginia Tech team that Boise State beat has a loss to James Madison. Their only good win is at North Carolina State and they have a decent win over East Carolina. CMU: suck. Duke: suck. Boston College: suck. Wake Forest: suck. Why is this and beating Oregon State (who lost to Washington last time out) such big wins as compared to beating LSU, Mississippi State, Arkansas and South Carolina (Auburn); Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Northwestern (Michigan State); Oklahoma and Illinois (Missouri) or Stanford (Oregon)? -Switch Boise State with Wisconsin. Do you think Boise comes though Michigan State, Ohio State, Minnesota and Iowa undefeated? That is a heck of a schedule and Wisconsin only dropped their game at Michigan State. -Switch Boise State with LSU. Do you think Boise comes through Mississippi State, West Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, McNeese State, Auburn and Alabama without picking up a loss? -Switch Boise State with Mississippi State. Do you think Boise makes it though Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Alabama and Arkansas without picking up a loss? Mississippi State is ranked but they're far from a marquee name. -Is Boise State better than TCU? They have both beat Oregon State. TCU has beaten Baylor and Boise has beaten VT. TCU has Utah left, Boise has Nevada left. If both go undefeated, who is ranked higher? I think TCU would be (beating a tough Utah team would be the biggest win for either team). -A big game I cannot wait for is for Boise State to go to Nevada. I want to see what Kaepernick and Taua do out of the pistol against Boise. If they're able to run wild, what do you think would happen against the Auburn rushing attack or the Oregon offense? My opinion is that TCU is the team with a legitimate chance at playing for the title if the cards fall for them. I don't think an undefeated Boise gets into the title game over a one loss Alabama, Auburn, Oregon, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Wisconsin or an undefeated TCU.
  2. QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 06:53 PM) Is there a reliable online site to place bets? I've never bet online before but it interests me. No and legally you're not allowed to withdraw any funds you win to a bank account inside the USA.
  3. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) That line has been jumping a lot the past day or so. If it gets back down to 4 then I might take a run with ISU. I thought about playing this game. Went with Minnesota -1 instead. Hopefully Dasher being out for Middle Tennessee helps the Gophers take the victory.
  4. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Good luck, Steve! I definitely want to do a tri in the future. Hope everyone's marathon training is going well! Looking forward to next weekend, as I have a 10K, which is my first race since the RNR Half. It was my first oly distance tri and let me tell you, it was one hot day. There was nothing fun about the race today. I finished though haha, so yay me!
  5. Anyone doing the Chi Tri this weekend? It'll be my first oly distance tri, I'm pretty pumped.
  6. It would be so weird not having MSU end the season with Penn State. My head says I want MSU in as easy as a division as possible but my heart says I want a division with UM, OSU, Penn State and Purdue.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) http://chicago-bears-fan-zone.info/744/bea...cago-bears.html Read this and the comments too. Facepalm. I kept looking at the date because I couldn't believe it.
  8. I'm happy for him. A dream came true today, I couldn't help but smile when he got the beer shower.
  9. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jul 27, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) Anyone else running the RNR Half this Sunday? I am going to be running in it in place of one of my friends. I expect her to set a new PR this weekend hahaha.
  10. QUOTE (Real @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) Ok, so we have a Kotsay is better than Figgins post, and now a f***ing Brent Lillibridge is better post Any other gems somebody wants to throw out? I think it's funny that people think Chone Figgins is as bad as his numbers are showing. I also think it's funny that you guys are dismissing the chance that Seattle would pick up parts of that contract. Figgins > Pierre, Lillibridge, Kotsay, gmafb. I agree, I just wonder what Figgins would cost (I don't see it).
  11. QUOTE (ICP! @ Jul 24, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) Sometimes I wanna tell you...you are not wanted in this thread, this is for BULLS FANS ONLY....then I remember, its not. God dammit. When I read that first sentence, I was thinking why the heck would CP3 want to come to the Bulls. Then I kept reading and noticed who posted it. Freaking Australian hahaha.
  12. I hate rest days. Couldn't be more excited about tomorrow though, it could potentially be one of the best stages I have seen. Lets go ANDY!
  13. I would like to join this if that is ok? I have been trying to lose weight for the past two months but I have a hard time staying away from fast food. Hopefully writing my weight down will help. I started at 172 a roughly six weeks ago and am trying to get to 150. I am currently ~163 to 165. I am 5' 7 1/4".
  14. That sounds awesome. How is the camping? I would be concerned for waking up stiff after a long ride.

    Road Bikes

Bought a Scattante R670 with Shimano Ultegra components over the weekend. The bike is awesome. Took it out for ten miles on Monday and another twenty miles today. I couldn't be happier with my decision.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 12:52 PM) 230 The heaviest I've ever been was 235 over the winter, but I'm also 6'6. I've been losing weight slowly since the spring and toning up a littler, but now I'm really going to step it up. I'm down 3 pounds already in the last few days. Had an awesome workout today. Got a hookup with a free personal trainer once a week for the rest of the summer too. I was going to say, if your started at 250 it'd be a terrific job but if you started at 215, you'd be going the opposite way haha. I am also trying to lose some weight. I'm down roughly 10-15 pounds since I started working out heavy in March. I have a really hard time with pizza and donuts though. You'll have to keep us updated.
  17. Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck are hands down the class of the field. Contador is a two-time champ (would already be a three-timer if not for Vino's blood doping in 2007), people want to see the favorite win by making everyone else crack, not by attacking on a mechanical malfunction after he was slow to react to Schleck's attack. Paul Sherwen called his move "desperate" as it was going on. The first thing I thought when I was watching the stage was when Lance waited for Jan Ullrich after Ullrich crashed years ago. Those two men were the class of the field (along with Pantani) and Ullrich would have won more TDFs had it not been for Lance (Pantani wouldn't have beaten him again). Lance wanted to win the "right" way. Show he was the best of the best and no one could ride with him. He was in everyone's head (ultimately gave Ullrich depression according to Ullrich). Personally, I love the professional cycling and I have been loving this tour. I have watched and followed the Tour for over a decade and this years edition has the makings of the best Tour I have ever seen however I wanted to see Contador or Scheck win by dropping the other (although I figured Contador would win on the TT). I understand both sides of the argument, but for me personally, I wanted the dual of duals. On a side note, this showed how big Frank Scheck's injury was. He would have been in the group when Andy had the problem and he would have destroyed himself trying to get his brother back to Contador.
  18. I'm not happy about Contador's tactics today. I understand why you would attach when Schleck's chain came off but a two-time TDF winner should have wanted to win the right way. I understand the idea of winning at all costs but at least now I know I picked the right GC contender to cheer for. Lets go ANDY!
  19. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jul 14, 2010 -> 06:54 AM) I just want to give people the option of reading it or not - it just takes a second to click and drag, so I figure it's not putting people out too badly. I mostly use the Opera browser on my BlackBerry to lurk and you can't read the spoiler tags that way. It's not an issue for me, just thought I'd fill people in on this random tidbit. So stop ruining my lurking you jerk! Hahah.
  20. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) I'm at 230 right now. Goal 1: 220 by July 31 Long-term goal: Maintain a lean 205 What weight did you start at?
  21. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) I injured my foot two weeks back, so I started up swimming to keep me in shape while I was off running. Started back today and felt pretty good, running a five miler in 35 minutes. Trying to be back in shape so I can go sub-1:30 again in a half marathon on Aug. 1. Ironmans are so ridiculous. I would have to work my ass off swimming b/c I truly suck at it. Can't breath well, bad form and can't go more than a couple laps without needing a break. You Tri-guys are sick. PS How do you like the running group? I am curious to join one but not sure if there are any good ones around Evanston. I would recommend keeping swimming in your training. You'll be surprised with how accelerated your improvement will be because you already have a solid base. Don't be discouraged, it'll get better. I am a big fan of being part of a running group. It helps to keep a set schedule even if you're not in the mood to run that day. Holds you accountable as part of the group. There is also a lot of encouragement throughout the group which makes tough days slightly more bearable. The group has helped my running by leaps and bounds.
  22. Quick answer, do it by ACH. Long answer, the fastest way is to do it by a wire (Fedwire). However, the cheapest and easiest way is to do it by an ACH. A wire is a same day transaction while an ACH is a next day transaction. The breakeven equation between the two is: (Wire Cost - ACH Cost ) / (Daily Earning Rate * Days Funds Accelerated) *for the record, I am a certified treasury professional (CTP) and I work as a treasury analyst, this is right up my alley.
  23. ^greasy, I don't really have a true training program. I joined a running team through Dick Pond's Athletics and I have been running with them a few times a week. There are people of every speed so there's always someone to run with. Tuesdays are speed workouts on the Benet Academy track, Thursdays are a four mile run through a neighborhood, Saturdays are long run. On top of that, I run on my own a lot and I swim a few days a week. Next year I plan on doing a half-Ironman so I will need to get a true training program. I ran the Sundowner 5k in Joliet last night in ~19:35. I am happy with the result although I never really felt comfortable in the race. It is definitely different running a race on a weeknight.
  24. QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=78462 Peep that thread and shoot me a PM if you wanna know how I became a fan of Jeremy Reed. (before he hit .400 in AA) And hey... if a guy who is a career .274/.344/.481/.825 is a scrub, then I like those kinda scrubs. BTW, this was my first name when I started posting here on soxtalk FYI. Wow that thread took me even further back to the Freddy/Reed trade. It was fun to read such an old thread, someone must have pissed in my cereal that day, cause wow I was a jerk hahaha. Also, when did Soxtalk start banning lots of people. There were three names that were fairly large volume posters from when I used to do more than lerk (90% on my BB now)? Sorry to off-topic us.
  25. I don't really understand this list but I guess everyone has their own opinions. Has anyone seen Prince of Persia? I think Gemma Arterton is gorgeous. She plays the princess and the love interest of Jake Gyllenhaal. She was also a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace.
