QUOTE (That funky motion @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Correct, but if the recall the player from the AHL and a team grabs him, the Hawks pay for half. Like the Avery from Dallas to the Rangers. You don't to send players down to get rid of a contract because other player won't want to sign with you. Also a lot of players have no movement clauses so you can't send them down. There are some other rules too it but I am not sure to what they are. Cam Barker started last season in the minors because his cap number (~$2.5m) didn't fit their cap. I am sure he would have been grabbed by some team who would only have to pay $1.25m for him.

Me and my buddies had rooftop tickets for the Sunday game last year at Wrigley. I lost a bet on the game that resulted in me having to wear a Cubs rain poncho for the first three innings of the following Saturday's game at the Cell. I wore a big blue poncho on a really hot and sunny day. It was like a sauna. A Cubs hat would be easy for me to say yes for a ticket.

I saw a game there in 2002 against the Angels (a precursor to the ALCS) and I liked the Metrodome. It got really loud and was a unique experience for a game. There's reasons to tear it down but I did enjoy my only experience there.

What would you rather have?

WNBA championship. My logic, $5 bucks is lunch but a championship would make some people who I've never heard of really happy so good for them. About the Sox, would I give up ever winning the title for the $100k or would the Sox get to the WS and lose in a heartbreaking fashion because of me and we'd start fresh. Honest answer, give me the $100k. -
If you really enjoy golf, you should invest in lessons. I've taken lessons for the past year and I have improved greatly. I've only been playing for the past two years as well. I played two rounds this weekend and it's where a lot of my free time goes. One of my buddies uses Cobra irons and he loves them. I bought Mixuno MX-200s (4-PW) and Titleist Vokey Wedges (50, 56 and 60) about a month ago and I absolutely love them too.

QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 07:26 AM) Hi stranger. Haha I come on Soxtalk probably everyday but I typically don't log in. I'm a huge TDF fan since Lance's first few wins so thought I'd chime in. The problem with other teams trying to team up on Astana is Astana has three of the six best riders in the world. Lance, AC and Levi versus Cadel, Sastre and Andy Schleck. Even if they team up, I think those three Astana riders would be fine, then add Kloden, Popovych and everyone else in the mix. I'd like to see Contrador go to Eskatel. It's a Spanish team with some talent (Egoi Martinez especially). I'm not sure where else he would fit now. Lance will take Brunyel and take the team back to a US backed sponsor/team. My biggest wonder is what will Levi do. He was the leader of Discovery in 2007 and gave way to AC. Would he stay with Lance, stay with Contrador or go show what he can do as the true leader of a team. I think Popovych (a valuable asset) would stay with Lance too FWIW. I think AC is a better cyclist but Lance with Levi and Popo would beat AC IMHO. So did anyone have the problem I had going into this tour? For years I cheered for Lance to win. Then he retired and I cheered for Floyd Landis (everyone knows how that turned out). Then I was back on Discovery for AC and Levi in 2007. Then Astana isn't allowed in last year and I take up Garmin-Chipolte and Vandevelde. The problem has solved itself and I am 100% backing Vandevelde but its so weird to not cheer for Lance, AC or Levi (althought I still like them all a lot). It was almost a surreal experience. I miss having Ullrich, Pantani, Venichouv (sp?), Basso, Rassmussen and all the other "bad guys" being the ones I'm pulling against and not people I've put a lot of joy into. Sorry if I babbled on a little haha.

I truely don't think Lance will be a problem for Alberto. All the talk is about these mountain stages not being super difficult. Once the true mountain stages begin, I think Alberto will show why he is the best GC rider in the world. Remember, Alberto has won a Giro and Vuelta since he won the TDF in 2007. I would have bet on him winning the TDF last year had Astana been allowed to race. I still think it was a mistake and took a lot away from last years tour.

The Shrine? Why don't they treat it that way?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 11:08 PM) My original post had nothing to do with envy. If you read it, you'll see I was disgusted with "the norm" at Wrigley being to throw things on the field and at fans of the opposing team. This is not normal in any other stadium I've been too, and I've been to a lot of them. My co-workers ribbing me because the Cubs swept the Sox? That's fine, I wear my Soxdom on my sleeve and the way they played I deserved it. Throwing beer at other people, littering the field, yelling at little kids in opposing team's jersies? That's a rarity saved for Wrigley Field. Your original post complains about fans having fun at the game and then cheering for their team when they tie the game up. You're upset Cubs fans had fun. Baseball is entertainment for most people. Not eveybody sits on a message board and reads up on baseball. Do you think just about every team in the MLB doesn't try to replicate the Wrigley atmosphere? I understand about throwing stuff on the field but I take it you've never been to a Big Ten football game. Here's a story for you. Last year at the Cell a Sox fan through up into the Cubs bullpen onto people. Like it or not, Sox fans are just as bad as Cubs fans and tend to know just as little as Cubs fans. I actually had Sox fans come up to me and ask me about 'the guy on your jersey, is he good? What does he play?' Another thing I don't understand is the beer comment. Unless you're fifteen there is a good chance you hung out at the bar right afterwards. I have been to many stadiums in different sports where beer was still served later than is allowed. The rooftop had no beer being served right on que. Be a leader for Sox fans, not a Cubs hater. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) I was at the game on Friday, and saw one of the sickest displays of humanity in sports. I always wanted to give Cubs fans their fair shake... "Don't lump them together as mostly idiots," I'd think to myself. So throughout the game, it's just in fact a beer garden. Half the fans are more occupied with their next beer than what's on the field. Hardly anyone was paying attention to the game. Sure enough though, when those b2b homers were hit in the 7th off Dotel, they were "fans" once again. The disturbing part of the afternoon was when Aramis hit the walk-off HR. The "Cub fans" who adore Wrigley and call it a shrine launch beers onto the field. Fully clad in White Sox jersey and hat, I'm surprised I didn't get pelted with a beer or two myself, but an innocent 30 or so year old woman got drenched because she had Sox gear on... I can't help but to think had the Cubs followed the law and stopped serving at the 7th inning stretch, maybe every moron in the outfield would not have had a full beer to launch after the Cubs win. They were selling beers right up until that pitch was hit. All I can say is, sweep or not, I'm proud to say I'm a Sox fan, and not a Cubs fan today. Many of you need to losen up. I was at the game Sunday in a rooftop and I had a great time. We had a good mix of Cubs and Sox fans and I was wearing my Quentin jersey and Sox hat and didn't get anything but fun ribbing from other drunks (which I returned right back). You better believe I was more concerned about my next beer than the game with the way the Sox were playing. We all know many very knowledgable Cubs fans and many ignorant Sox fans, just take some less time being envious and enjoy yourself. -
QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Jun 17, 2008 -> 11:24 PM) Shades of the mid 80's wrestling war! Counter programming is back. As for Silva, Meltzer was saying that Silva plans on fighting in both weight classes which has been done certainly, and it'll be interesting to see if he stick with some of the guys there. I'm a tad worried he can't, but time will tell. As for this fight with Irvin, he's a striker, good luck with Silva... I never expected him to sub Hollywood but he did. Hendo looked better versus Rampage than versus Silva. I think he can stick with plenty of the guys but will beaten up by some of the big wrestlers.

King Richie the Second to start in Sox ad

Even diehard Cubs fans I know laugh at Swisher in the Javy commerical. I don't see how anyone doesn't find that funny. -
That's pretty cool the Rays got Beckhams brother too. Interesting read.

Big Brown's stud rights have already been sold for upwards of $50m (or so the rumors go). I still don't consider Big Brown a true super horse. I don't know, I just don't buy him racing against inferior horses.

Blackhawks Offseason Thread
SuperSteve replied to whitesoxbrian's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I think Pittsburgh is a bad example, as there was a reason they had all those high draft picks the last few years. About Sharp on the shootout; wasn't he like 1-7 at one point last year? Kane is all but automatic, Toews is a stud, but I'd rather have someone else (and please no Havlat). I thought it was all but a formality that Lalime was going to be gone next season. I'd like Redden, Liles and an offensive threat (preferabily a power forward but that won't happen so hopefully Buf toughens up). -
Hull, Mikita & Espo at the Cubs game

I was actually at the game and I don't remember them singing (granted I don't remember very much of the day). My more sober friends though it was absolutely hysterical though. -
Hawks re-sign Buff, Wiz and Burish
SuperSteve replied to The Critic's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I'm worried they Hawks are going to give too much money to Campbell. Redden would be nice though. The goalie they signed out of Europe is suppose to be a stud too, plus hes young (can't think of his name off my head). -
A few things. I am going to be rooting for Hollywood Henderson on Saturday. I think Rampage will beat him, but I have always loved the former Olympian. Concerning Fedor Emelianenko.. there is not too many places he could fight. He fought Matt Lindland in Bodog, so I'd never rule them out. Fedor wants to fight in Sambo compeitions too from all the rumors. UFC does not allow other competitions really (ex: UFC guys grappling in the ADCC). Fedor likes one fight contracts too, which is why he was always at odds with DSE. He also doesn't fight for the hell of it, he fights cause it's his job. While I hope he comes to the UFC, I really can't see Zuffa and Dana White wanting Fedor to be champ over the American hero Randy Couture. IMHO he is one guy we won't see in the UFC anytime soon, I hope I'm wrong. He's said to be attending this weekend. I just don't know if I see it. Now I'm just babbling too haha.

Noobs. Hahaha. I got Rampage by decision cause I am not a Liddell fan, but in all honesty, Liddell should crush Rampage pretty easily IMHO. The footage of Rampage is the old Jackson, he's a much different fighter now and I think you'll see that tonight.

QUOTE(joeynach @ Apr 25, 2007 -> 10:12 PM) Yikes this outfield is atrocious right now. Dye banged up, Pods on DL, now Mack banged up. Plus couple that with Thome out of the lineup cuz hes hurt too. Did we get really old this year, did I miss us becoming the Miami heat of the American League? Anyway they better get Tererro up here real qucik cuz all we got now is Erstad, Anderson, and Ozuna. I feel bad for our pitchers, espcially young Danks who have to deal with downgraded lineup as well as shotty outfield defense with all these converts out there. To be real honest the blame lies with KW not having real OF's on the bench, at least defensively, instead of the two INF they converted to OF last year. This is becoming very ugly. Well, first off. Anderson was the defensive guy IMHO. So check one off your list. They're hurting, but its early. We will be fine. Hopefully Mack feels fine in the morning, cause I actually like seeing him in our lineup (he also wasn't converted to the OF last year. He has been out there since 2001, when he came up, has over 250 games in RF, 173 in CF, and over 80 games in LF. FoxSportsNet). Knock out part of another. As much as I hate to say it, let Anderson play, see if he can hit, give him a shot again, theres really no better options right now, and see if he fails or flurishes. And Ozuna, well he's one of my favorites, so I won't say anything bad about him .

QUOTE(Dan @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 12:07 AM) Obviously. Shelton is a defensive liability and doesn't show much heart. Casey does save some errors from Guillen and Inge, is a leader, and is truely expected to hit better than he is right now. I genuinely don't understand what they're doing with Shelton though, but I really did think he won his place in 2005, but who knows with the Tigers. Hell, look at Shefield and his 'hot start' to this season.
