Cleveland and Kansas City will lose 90 games this year. Why do people take 15 games so seriously? Seriously, those teams are bad and everybody thought that opening day, why should you think otherwise?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 19, 2011 -> 09:11 PM) He.was.not.serious. Except there are people out there who actually believe it. But yeah I didn't read the whole thread. I have a short fuse right now....

It's a brilliant idea! Let's make the outfield defense range even worse while the team isn't hitting AND give the guy who isn't as good of a hitter more at bats! A worse line up and defense surely will equal more wins. I swear, has anyone ever been through a baseball season in their life? Good teams go through slumps and get hot. This is a slump.
-
You make some great points. Seriously, posts like these should be a permaban. The only thing that drives me up a wall is bunting with your number two hitter. LET HIM SWING AWAY AND TRY TO OPEN UP THE INNING. Giving up outs only gets you closer to ending the game.

I think the only reasonable thing to do is blame Greg Walker for Dunn's lack of production.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) yet I don't remember a single game he pitched in. Then again, I wasn't an alcoholic at that time. I thought it worked the opposite way. You can't remember things because you're a drunk.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) Its getting to the point where the Sox are at statistical hilarity. This cant not continue to happen. THIS. They're too good and have had too many bloop hits fall in late innings. Plus, if you're a believer like I am still in this pen, at least the struggles might be out of the way early as opposed to say September. -
Plus, is Thornton really struggling? 2 of his blown saves the defense gave the opponent four or more outs.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 05:05 PM) There is nothing positive about Thornton's struggles. If Sale can't be an impact reliever, then we're totally wasting a year of development of his. So wait. What leads you to believe he can get hitters out starting if he can't pitching the 9th inning?

And seriously, isn't Ozzie pretty "brave" by going with Sale in the 9th and pulling him rather quickly? Then instead of going to the "closer" he went to Craine, where most managers would have gone with the closer. Who is closing for this team doesn't matter and it never should have. Who is getting outs is what matters. -

The A's can't hit. Pen needed a confidence booster. Compound that with pitchers need to last a whole season. Why is this hard to understand? Oh and I could look like Nolan Ryan IF I HAD NEFTALI FELIZ IN MY PEN. -
2005 title the only one in the last 15 years "untainted'

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 11:59 PM) I remember saying that Rowand was an obvious juicer years ago and Steff tearing me a new one because there was just no way it was possible. Well seeing as to easily 75% of the fanbase think you're some godless commie if you even hint at the fact that Aaron Rowand wasn't very good, this doesn't surprise me. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) I don't like that excuse. Maybe those teams that passed on him had more pressing needs? We needed OF depth in the worst way. I'm not writing Mitchell off. But as of right now, it looks like this will ultimately end up another miss by the Sox brass. I don't think teams draft on needs, but rather take the best available player. And I agree with you on Mitchell. I liked the pick then but the future looks bleak.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:49 PM) You should know me by now. I'm the last one that is satisfied with only getting to the playoffs. I didn't mean to imply that, rather I am just not that familiar with the regulars here yet
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) Correct me if im wrong but havent we drafted Beckham, Sale and Mitchell in the first round? Arent those generally considered pretty good picks? Baseball is one of the hardest things to draft, Tampa had what seems like hundreds of high first round picks and so many flamed out. I don't want to have his argument about Sale, but SOME thing he is a pen arm. Connect the dots on drafting pen arms in the first round. Obviously, that hinges on whatever Sale ends up being.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:45 PM) How would Mike Trout look right about now? I know, I know. Hindsight. But what are you paying your scouts, ect for? Would look great. To be fair, lots of teams passed on him, as he was playing high school ball in New Jersey and because of the short and cold spring, many teams did not see him enough. On a side note, the Angels scouting director who drafted him was fired this off season.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:38 PM) The ML team is sufficient for now. But we've got some bad contracts and no organizational depth. A playoff appearance would go a long way in alleviating those issues. But think about that...It's never a good thing when you're future is that predicated on making the playoffs. I know it seems I am piling on you, I promise I'm not actively, but does a simple playoff appearance alleviate org depth issues? No doubt playoff appearances = extra money but as I stated earlier, this team just doesn't spend in the draft. Further, as die hard sox fans like we are, you should never be satisfied with making the playoffs. I want rings, banners, and parades every damn year. That is what we should expect, not merely playoff appearances.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:34 PM) Can't. There's nobody. Still doesn't mean you don't shop him under the right circumstances. KW is going to have to get really creative or quit. He's put us in this mess. Well you have no choice but to be "all in" (I hate using the marketing campaign here but it's true). This is what you get when you draft low upside talent in the first round and refuse to spend money in the draft, but that's a whole nother debate But to just dismiss how good Rios is compared to the rest of the league because he is owed a lot of money is just foolish. Especially when this year and possibly next might really be your last years to compete before the real rebuild starts.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:31 PM) You free up that money from Rios' contract, and you have a lot more options. Rios was 6th last year om VORP per Baseball Prospectus. Second in the AL. Here are you potential 2012 free agent CF's (* denotes 2012 club option): Bobby Abreu LAA * Carlos Beltran NYM Milton Bradley SEA Mike Cameron BOS Ronny Cedeno PIT Michael Cuddyer MIN Jack Cust SEA David DeJesus OAK J.D. Drew BOS Jeff Francoeur KC * Jonny Gomes CIN Gabe Gross OAK Carlos Guillen DET Raul Ibanez PHI Conor Jackson OAK Jason Kubel MIN Ryan Ludwick SD Nate McLouth ATL * Juan Pierre CWS Juan Rivera TOR Cody Ross SF Grady Sizemore CLE * Nick Swisher NYY * Josh Willingham WAS No thanks.
-
And anytime someone can tell me who in that deep white sox farm system can be a replacement level CF'er it would be great.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:25 PM) I'm very aware. His production doesn't match his pay. If the Braves said give us Rios and, I don't know, $8 million for Delgado or Vizcaino, and another prospect, I'm game. put the xbox controller down.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:23 PM) Yet gets paid like a top 20 superstar? Point being? Sox didn't give him the deal. They took a shot two years ago, and Rios was great last year. He's a plus plus defender and is a nice bat in the middle of the order. But yeah, lets trade him and let Jordan Danks come up and show people he sucks.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:19 PM) I want Rios gone if we're 6 or more games out of it by the trade deadline. you are aware that a an actual CF who can play defense and hit are rare right now? There MIGHT be like 10 actual CF's in baseball right now.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 12, 2011 -> 09:09 PM) Haha, Pena needs to be released! All he does is hang sliders. This bullpen f***ing blows...thanks KW. Pen arms are the most volatile thing in baseball, and yet we must blame KW for two weeks of a bad pen. Seriously people, it's a cross county road trip and we are barely out of the drive way.
