2005 title the only one in the last 15 years "untainted'
Paint it Black replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If you actually believe the 2005 team had no cheaters you are one delusional human being. -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 11, 2011 -> 09:51 PM) I was just as mad as you, being that Pierre has done this twice in the last few games...but that said, they were going to tie the game anyway...Thornton as closer is a failed experiment. IMO, that leadoff double was going to score to tie the game regardless of Pierre. Lets go back to the Rays game on Friday which Thornton "blew the game." The big plays were: 1) the fly ball Pierre dropped. A lazy fly ball which the hitter was jammed on. 2) the easy ground ball to Alexei and he made the terrible throw 3) the Upton single, which was a jam shot down the line. 4)the homerun My point is Thronton made his pitches up until the homerun...essentially FOUR OUTS LATER. If you want to blame him for having bad defense, then I can't really help you. I was on the phone during last nights debockle (the girlfriend was a lot like Pierre last night, having a melt down) so I cannot speak to the quality of pitches Thronton threw.

None. McCarthy is awful, and Gonzalez and Richard's numbers are inflated because of making a lot of their starts in huge pitcher parks. With that said, I'd still trade Floyd for Gonzalez in a heart beat, but it's more because I am not a Gavin believe at all. Hudson is okay, but I'd still rather have Edwin Jackson.

4/8/11 - Sox vs. Rays - 7:10 (WCIU)

Because I'm too drunk to make a thread to embarrass myself: Why was Danks allowed to pitch to 1 to many hitters? Although I know the pen looks bad to start the season, lets be realistic on the "omg new closer time" nonsense. If two awful errors and a broken bat base hit are grounds for a new 9th inning man then I don't know what to tell the baseball retarded. Although it would nice to see something else other than a fastball from Thornton. I'd like to go with a closer by committee and I have felt like that for a long time. If Thornton is the best guy in the 9th to get the final 3 outs, do it. If it's Sale, do it. If it's Santos, do it. Use the situation, not "oh s*** it's the 9th time to put Thornton out there." Besides Rivera, closers are overrated. The save stat was essentially created by a guy in his moms basement and it has changed the game for the worse. **edit for drunken spelling errors** -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 5, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) We easily led the AL in outs given away last year if you recall my stat tracker. BBBut a stolen base gets you to second and then you only need a single to score!!! -

Heyman Picks Sox for Central, among other things
Paint it Black replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 29, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) More ridiculous than A-Rod for MVP, anyway. I mean, Posey had a damn good season and I don't see him being anything but great for his career, but I'm gonna need to see WAY more than ~450 AB's of good play before I start talking MVP favorite. There are way more rookies who falter in their second season than win MVPs. A catcher who hits as much as he does will be a perennial MVP candidate. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 29, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) I like how A-Rod for AL MVP is more ridiculous in your eyes than Posey for NL MVP. How is Posey for MVP ridiculous? On a side note, Keith Law picked the White Sox to win by 2 games. I thought about making a thread but then realized 40 posts of "Keith Law hates the White Sox" without anyone having actual proof, isn't fun. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 10:38 PM) I agree totally. I'll just never be down with investing first round picks or excessive coin on closers. No matter how good they are outside of Rivera. Totally agree with closers. Strongly disagree with spending money on first round picks (assuming you're not drafting the low upside, soft tossing college arms the White Sox used to love). The draft is where you find stars. Stars win you championships, sell tickets, etc. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 07:35 AM) Even though they effect the outcome of twice as many games as a starter? You really want to argue how many more games a top flight hitter wins you over a closer? The fact that this team has 3 guys who could close right now kinda proves that a lot of guys could close. Further, give me the number of pitchers in the game who are true aces? Or rather at least guys who are basically a lock for 200 innings a year consistently. Now tell me how many people in baseball you think can close. Wide margin. Closers are the most overrated thing in baseball.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 05:44 PM) I get your point. Just wanted to say Hernandez easily. And not because of one inning in '05. I agree with all of this. It should also be noted that the Reds are paying Chapman a conciderable amount of money to close, something I am not a fan of at all. I'd rather see money go to guys who appear in you know, more than 60 innings a year.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 11:45 PM) I'd rather see Kenny spend the money on the Cuban defector and keep the draft pick. Question: Who is the best player to come out of Cuba? Is it Orlando Hernandez? Jose Contreras? Possibly Champman already? My point is, I'll give the 45 million to a proven hitter to help an offense that was pretty bad last year. The Cuban thing is always nice to dream on, but seriously there has not been that much good to come over from there.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 06:04 PM) Hey, there's already a serious "Adam Dunn Sux" thread. Sadly, I saw it right after this thread. I'm scared it's just the beginning and that this season I will go mad arguing with people about why strike outs are not the worst thing ever.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) Why, oh why, do people continue to draw conclusions based on Spring Training statistics? I just got back from Spring Training. Saw Flowers in two games. He homered once in the dodgers game on Sunday after coming in for Castro and doubled Monday night against the Padres when he started. I couldn't tell you his stats, but he looked really good at the plate. I know two games is not a good sample size what soever, but I came away impressed after being waaaaay down on Flowers.
-
The below thread topics should result in a permaban for the 2011 season: Adam Dunn strikes out too much. Fire Greg Walker.
-
In the spring training game I was at on Sunday, Adam Dunn was 0-3 with two strike outs. The only solution is to fire Greg Walker.

Who knew drafting low ceiling soft tossing college arms almost always doesn't pan out? -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 10:43 AM) Really? Because this would suggest that he's been one of the worst 3Bman in the league over the past 3 years. And no, I hadn't seen that upon making my comment. Brandon Inge is not a very good hitter. He's hit for quite a bit of power at times, but it's been at the expense of his average and plate discipline. From everything I've seen, he's always been a phenomenal defender at 3B too, though the numbers feel he's only good. I would have no problem if Morel did that. But if he seriously is putting up OPS's ranging anywhere from .675-.725 2-3 years from now from 3B with no signs of any real improvement, he will be doing it for another organization because the White Sox won't allow it. On top of that, as was mentioned previously, Morel and Inge are completely different hitters. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see both players put up an OPS of .700 this season. It would surprise me much more if Morel did it with a surprising amount of power or if Inge did it with an increase in his average. Their games' are not very similar. I agree with everything you said about Inge. I wasn't really trying to compare their games, rather just what they are compared to the rest of the league. i.e. middle of the road third baseman. Even with Inge having 2 bad years the last couple of seasons, there were a few seasons mixed in where his defense and bat were above average. All things considered, there are not that many elite level third baseman in the game, and there is a lot of awful throughout the league at the position. My point was just that if Morel is a middle of the road 3B, .260ish hitter (I'm thinking of what Crede was, with obviously less power and glove) then you have yourself a sold regular. Not a bad thing to have at all.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 14, 2011 -> 08:30 PM) He better be a better hitter than that, otherwise he won't last. Inge is an above average 3B when all things are considered. If Morell ends up having years at the plate like Inge I'll be both shocked and thrilled.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) Simple question; has Brent hit well enough to earn the job? So half a month is a good sample size now?
-
Guys, Morel is going to get the job. It's not a question at this point. Teahen will be the 2011 verson of Kotsay- meaning he'll be the "flexible" guy so to speak. Also, Teahan was starting to hit last year before he was injured. Not saying that he's worth the contract, but people seem to forget it.

Man the season can't start soon enough. I'm tired of this story along with the "Carlos Quentin has learned to control his anger" story that is rehashed word for word every spring.
